Passenger train on UP at Rochelle IL just now
Posted by junior yardmaster on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 1:26 PM

It's now 23 minutes after 1 PM; I just witnessed a UP passenger train headed eastbound at Rochelle; saw it on the webcam.  One thing which really stuck out was a dome car!  Anyone have an idea on what this rare sight was about?

UP has a bunch of cars and domes they use for various purposes.   Great P.R.

I don’t have any details, but the one you saw, junior yardmaster, may be a movement to Chicago to wine and dine a customer.  Someone undoubtedly will have more details ...

This was no ragtag bunch of old cars,  with perhaps, the exception of the dome car; the cars were all matching UP livery, very clean and well-kept.

Private Varnish?

Mookie, I just added some thoughts on this over on the Rochelle Web Cam thread.

It was PBOCP1-25. Departed Boone at 07:18 this morning and arrived at CPT at 15:17. Not sure if it's marketing, engineering or community outreach.

The uP has one of the largest freight railroad owned passenger car fleets in the US.   They are called the "Heritage Fleet".  They are used for inspection trips, customer specials and public events.  They are based out of the former CNW shops in Council Bluffs, IA.  All are maintained to full working condition.
