I understand entirely what you mean. I wasn't trying to push it senselessly on, but, as I said earlier, I am rather enjoying myself with this thread.Thankfully you have kindly provided this thread wiht its long lacking Topic

1) What part of the country do you live in?

Portland area, Oregon. Currently I am in Essex Montana

2)What's the most predominate railroad in your area?

At home: UP or BNSF.

Here: BNSF

3) What's the most interesting thing you've seen on a railroad in the last month?

I have seen several of BNSF's grain hoppers wiht historic logos come through. Just today I saw the BN heritage car.

4)What's the longest distance you've ridden on a train?

Empire Builder, Portland to Chicago (what's that, 2 or 3K?)

5)The shortest?

I think I rode a single stop on the MAX once, and the WP&Z is pretty short.

6) Does your area have any shortline or regional railroads of interest?

 At home: Portland & Western, not too far from the Willamette Valley, and of cours ethe Washington Park and Zoo

Here: Not really.

7) What's your shoe size?

10-10.5

8) What's the oldest locomotive you see on a regular basis?

Home:The SP 4449, and Doyle's collection of old ALCOs.

Here: a couple of SD40-2s BNSF keeps around

Well in "Signs" The aliens aparently aren't able to get through doors so clearly they don't have a lot of experience with them? Is it possible that they ony have doorknobs bloted to the walls?

Seriously though, why invade a planet made up 80% of a substance that is acidic to you?

Did you find me? It is true that no passenger trains cross here anymore, though there is a diversion from time to time, as earlier this month when Uncle Pete was doing some work on the through route and I traveled around and not through.

Tough one.  A nice looking Chevy suburban hi-rail with what I believe was a laser level mounted on its bumper.

Been on a train as far away as Mystic, CT.  But in recent times?  200-some odd miles.

0.  Got called as a conductor for a work train assignment.  They didn't need us to do anything that day.  We didn't even start the engine (was a nice day out).

Lots of them.

 

7) What's your shoe size?

12.

 

8) What's the oldest locomotive you see on a regular basis?

I can see just about anything within a few hours of here.  But what I see with any regularity may be an Alco S2.  Or a GE 65-tonner, depending how I go home.

Northern New York (some six hours from "the City" and just a few miles from the Canadian border)

A passenger, early teens female, whose every picture of the scenery we were passing was a 'selfie.'

Just under five hundred miles (Syracuse to Detroit)

5)The shortest?

Probably the loops at the Huckleberry Railroad or Greenfield Village.

6) Does your area have any shortline or regional railroads of interest?

The Mohawk, Adirondack & Northern, which as a GVT company is all ALCO

7) What's your shoe size?

1941 EMD SW1 originally built for L&N, now lettered NYC 705.  I run it occasionally, too...

Other vintage locomotives I've run include a 1947 F3 (rebuilt to an F10, nee GM&O), a 1950 RS3, a 1953 F7 (nee Alaska RR), a 1964 ALCO Century (nee SP&S 303), a couple of ALCO C424's, and a couple of late 50's MLW RS18u's

4: Houston to San Francisco as a small child…Mumbai (Bombay) to the other side of India as a young teen.

8: A GP 7 that works the Cargill elevator.

On my first trip by train, I screamed for about fifteen minutes (from Plant City, where we boarded to Lakeland, Fla., on our way to Jacksonville and north) I was two years old then, but I did get over my fright.
