Currently sitting at 30th street station in Philly waiting for a train (work related thing). Such an energy here from all these people. One thing that is missing in freight service.

I hired out before the Internet was invented; and joined the computer age some time afterwards. Had this site been around as long as the magazine, I would have been on it as soon as I could have...maybe when I was in high school. You folks joined the year my elder daughter was married. This Saturday we celebrate my oldest grandchild's tenth birthday.Earlier tonight I was showing my youngest grandchild (16 months) some steam-train videos on the computer. He was saying "What's that?" a lot, and was fascinated by them. It also kept him very quiet and out of his parents' hair, as they were cooking supper for all of us.Tomorrow we head up to the Land of No Trains once more, but it will be a great time nonetheless. I can't wait to see three of the Charmageddon babies together again, now that they're older and able to notice other babies.

Hey, I resemble that remark...
Well, 18,000 or so (yes, you read that right) happy travellers-to-the-North-Pole later, our "Polar Express" is in the books. Travelled one more time to the "North Pole" this morning and "retired" it for another year. The pretty lights and holiday trappings have been stored, leaving just bare ground.
We did travel there by rail, as we needed to retrieve the retired passenger car in which we store all the props...
The PE operation was quite the operation, as usual. While I usually end up in the locomotive these days, I did work two nights as conductor, which is trying and satisfying at the same time.
Now it's time for some rest before the show circuit kicks off (anyone going to Springfield), and we'll be in rules class and starting to run trains again before you know it.
For now, I'm pooped!
On the lighter side, we generally stay at the gorgeous Hotel Utica if we work more than one night (as I usually do - it beats a two hour drive). Sunday morning a family who had ridden Saturday night (which I worked as a conductor) was having breakfast at the hotel when I was. After they finished, a sweet young lady (still in her "jammies") shyly came over to me to wish me Merry Christmas. It was cute (and, of course, I wished her the same in return).

Johnny, it sounds like you had a great time with your family! Our 16-month-old grandson Linus arrived from California this morning--and he brought his parents with him!
He's a happy little explorer--the grin and the light in his eyes when he discovers something new (and it's ALL new to him here!) crack us up every time. He didn't stay shy very long--Grandma got a smile out of him by feeding him Cheerios; Grandpa showed him a picture of a train.
He's a very good communicator with signs for various things (I'm not sure whether these are the sanctioned signs, but they aren't hard to understand). And his two favorite things to say are "What's that?" and "Right there!"Chris and Linda will let us play with him (but we have to share him with other family) for the week and more; they return to California on the 30th.
Carl and I be a little waxxy behind 'da ears. When it be feelin' more like "crusty", then you be closer to fossil.

I am glad to hear that Justin is progressing towards the goal that he stated he had when he began posting--engineer. I wish him well. And, I hope he has retained enough interest in us to tell us something of himself and his adventures from time to time.

I was part of a pleasant Christmas party this evening. Katie (who lives over my step-father apartment which is downstairs) had her son and daughter, her daughter-in-law (and her mother), her grandson, her three step-sons and the girlfriend of one of them, as well as me for dinner. After dinner, we opened stockings and presents, and all had a good time together.
Ns had a train this morning in the siding.They were busy moving today.Pastor had an open house at the parsonage.Matt was running the trains for the guests.Mamma says the Christmas shopping is done.Time for some chores.

Did you hear that we are all invited to Murphy's house for egg nog and yummy horsy D's. Anyone that celebrates with those numbers, must be good for a spectacular party!

52 gifts wrapped (and only 2 for yours truely), first batch of 250 (!) cards/Christmas letters mailed/delivered today. Whew
We had that freezing drizzle here this morning. Always fun to watch drivers when that happens. The roads just looked wet. They were black ice.
