Today on the MMA

I'm happy to say that all is well with my new job. I have been very busy getting the fleet ready for winter.
I found an original BAR chicken wire F-3 Gabe !!! It's in great shape and will take very little to put it back in service.
The coaling tower at Derby is still intact, the steel parts have not been stripped off like so many others I've seen, it appears to be fully functional.

I'm going to try to get the BL-2s # 52 & # 56 back in Maine. I know the current owner and am very familier with the engines from my days on the WICT. Who thought that 15 years later I would be on the old BAR. As for other EMDs we just aquired 3 GP-7s and 2 GP-9s. I would very much like to get rid of them, It's hard enough keeping a parts inventory for the GE fleet, I certainly don't want the headache of trying to find 567 BC parts as well.
I will try to get some photo's soon. I may end up with a company digital camera so I will try to learn how to use it !!!

Getting the BAR BLs back would be pretty neat. I thought MMA just went through a big deal to be GE only, sending the Ex DRGW tunnel motors and the funny CDAC F40s away.

I'm told the UP tunnel motors may be here this winter and we have to get 4 CDAC F40s up and running for winter . I am trying to get the GE traction motor situation under control so I hope we will only need the MMA fleet. We may be leasing some of our C30-7s out so the EMDs will fill the fleet out this winter if the C30s leave. We have soooo many locomotives laying around that it's getting difficult to move , I'm told the scrappres will be here soon to take care of some wrecked units.

Sounds great. Are the GEs behaving themselves well other than the TM issues with winter?

I see that a number of the GP35Rs are offered for sale (at some ridiculously high prices...)

your right LC , I can't believe how much their asking for these engines, I do know that many parts have been striped from them. Another of my responsibilitys is getting some of the CDAC Geeps up and running for a pending sale.
The GEs are full of unique problems, today I spent troubleshooting a wheelslip problem on a C30-7 and found that the engine has a mix of gear ratio's. I ajusted the sensitivity of the CMR system and sent the engine to work, problems like this are going to take a while to work out, hopefully when we change the trucks we install all the same gears, the wheels are nearing the end anyhow.

Interesting. Last time I was up there I remember a pretty substantial deadline. I imagine that is what you are referring to. Also, I do remember the GP35Rs as looking pretty much in the "ridden hard, put away wet" stages. Some iffy wheels and just generally looking scruffy. The BAR guys were actually siphoning fuel from dead units...

The transfer table was cool and the drop table was interesting. I was amazed that they still had boilermakers and a blacksmith on premises as well.

You get to work on SD40T-2s, that is a good job. Be sure to post the DRGW numbers of these units.

How do those F40s run? What kind of rent-a-wreck are you planning to lease?

We are going to lease SD45-2s. The F-40 is essentially a GP-40 so they are as close to perfect as you can get.

Hi Randy,

I'm glad to hear everything's going well.

I pulled out my Locomotive Roster book to see what kind of fleet Montreal Maine & Atlantic has and I noticed something odd. The numbering of the units seems a little speratic.

For example, you have 16 GE Dash8-B39s, but the number range goes from 8522 to 8592. Do you know why they scattered 16 numbers through a range of 70? (They are, for those who want to know: 8522, 8525, 8536, 8539, 8541, 8544, 8546, 8548, 8553, 8560-8563, 8569, 8578, 8583, and 8592.)

Just curious.

The MMA engines are wearing thier original #s. So far no effort has been made to renumber them.

Congrats on your new job. What kind of locos are inthe deadline? It's really nice when a few F40s are on the property. The B39s are among my favorites as GE 4-axle locomtives. Oh, and what is their official designation, B39-8E or something like that?

You will find GP-7s GP35Rs GP-38 F-40ph F-40m GP-9s B39-8 and a C 30-7 in our dead line. The neatest part are the old frieght cars like 8000 gal tank cars 40' boxcars, old red white and blue BAR cars and antiques like that.

The "new" B23-7 was put onto service and is doing fine, were pretty happy with it. I'd really like to get some more. look for a new paint sceme soon.
