I seem to recall alot of music videos that used trains/ railroad facilities either in the video or as a back drop. Here's a few I remember. Night Ranger in the video for Don't Tell Me You Love Me(IIRC) Rod Stewart Young Turks it was filmed on and around a bunch of stored gons and I'm drawing blanks on a few others.

You would like to think so, but I doubt it. I really like that video for its' RR images obviously, but I also like the scene with the Cattle Liner turning at 2:55. My late uncle used to drive those, way back. Like with a 1952 cab over GMC. And with a trailer maybe 2/3 as big.

I still wonder if non-railfans even know that, when watching 'Pink houses' they are also watching a portion of by gone American history. Do you think?

John Mellencamp's hometown of Seymour, IN is near the site of the first train robbery in the US.

Unfortunately, I'm not good with tittles, but one Bryan Adams video has him playing a guitar in front of the now demolished Alberta Wheat Pool elevator at Balzac, north of Calgary on CP's Calgary-Edmonton line.

There are a number of shots of the still extant former CN roundhouse at Hanna, AB, on CN's Calgary-Saskatoon,SK line, in a Nickleback video.

The video 'fade into you' by the band Mazzy Star has scenes of Santa Fe freights running through the desert.

I realize that most people probably don't know or care…

But recently, I was watching John Mellencamp's video for "Pink Houses" (A very nice song.) Anyway, the video depicts two scenes of trains: One is the Chessie/B&O, and the other is a track level shot of the camera being run down by a locomotive, running long hood forward. They don't show it very well, but the engine is all black with a white squarish logo on the end.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOfkpu6749w, The trains in question is @ 1:18

Does anyone here have any idea what railroad it is? I would say N&W, since it's black and running LHF, but the logo almost looks more tike the PennCentral Noodle.

If you bother to reply, thank you.

My understanding is that John Mellencamp was born and raised in Seymour, IN.  All the railroad shots used were from the Seymour area.  At Seymour the PRR Chicago to Louisville route crosses the B&O Cincinnati to St. Louis line at grade.  The black engine was in Penn Central paint - it appeared to be a single engine train, most likely a local, and depending on where it was in it's trip was likely to be operated with either long or short hoods forward.  Except for the pan shot of the Chessie engine led train, all the other shots seem to have been taken in the vicinity of JO Tower, which was staffed by a PRR (and successors) Operator and controlled the railroad crossing at grade between the lines.  JO Tower is visible in 2 of the 4 railroad shots in this video.

Never too old to have a happy childhood!

Just found one with a train in it. Lady Antebellum's "Just a kiss" It features a Dome coach in the begining and a train station else where. Aslo looks like a British station later on in the video.Any body Know where this was filmed?

Yah I know. Not a very Manly song to listen too

Who cares if it's 'manly.' It has a train in it, so it counts. Smile

On that point, do you suppose the average joe knows exactly what they're seeing when a shot of a santa Fe freight comes on the screen?

I know this dosen't answer the question, but Jasen Aldean's song "Flyover Country" mentions sante Fe railroad. his song "Dirt Road Anthem' has a shot of a yard full of covered hoppers. Wonder if he's a railfan/modeler?

Until Youtube and Myspace came along, I had no idea where the fine performance of 'People Get Ready' by Rod Stewart and Jeff Beck was recorded. Reportedly - Randsburg, CA.

Andrew Falconer

In 1993 Tears For Fears made a video for "Break it down again" in the California desert and the video featured a great amount of Santa Fe freight train action in the background.

If you can find the official video for "Break it down again" and are a Santa Fe fanatic, you have to look for it on various video websites.

I saw a webpage for the video several years ago, but I have a hard time finding it again.

Another one almost entirely focused on a railroad is A Thousand Miles from Nowhere by Dwight Yokam.

I see what you mean. Wonder if anyone outside of the rail fanning community really knows what they're watching?

Well, since the OP brought up mid-1980s Chessie System action, REM's Driver 8 has about as much Chessie railroad switching action as you can find this side of a railfan video. Bonus imagery of what looks like a GE getting a ride on a turntable.

Wiki claims Clifton Forge, Virginia, so go with that.

Did Penn Central run LHF in Indiana? Wikipedia says that's where it was shot.

Thank you, BTW Smile

Def'n looks like Penn Central.

Nice Conrail boxcars off to the right as well.

It's been fun.  But it isn't much fun anymore.   Signing off for now.
