....I would suppose some of the main routes would like to have back capacity that was abandoned in the past decade or two....Removed double track, etc...
I sure hope they can handle the available traffic increase and just maybe one of these days we could see some reduction of trucks on our interstates.

Sounds good to me, start quadrouple tracking the double tracks and double track the single tracks, the tables are turning.

Yeah ,I bet railroads are kicking themselves for single tracking all those double track lines. Sure they thought they could save some money on track repairs but now they gotta stop trains on sidings to wait for the others to pass. Still trains in the middle of no where don't make money.

BNSF is playing catch-up as fast as they can, building new main tracks, adding capacity to intermodal terminals. But it is interesting to watch them try to juggle everything when they add in the grain trains, and manifests. There are many days when we sit outside terminals, waiting to get in, or crawl along the "high speed transcon" 30 miles from the terminal. It's like being in a holding pattern at a large airport. And it's not just on weekends anymore, either. America is reaping the results of decades of highway-centered thinking. Hope we can build new rail infrastructure quickly enough to absorb our ever-increasing freight volumes.

Well, well, well, this all sounds very interesting. Perhaps this country doesn't have it's head quite as far up it's @$$ as I thought it did. Or maybe it's just that the price of gas is getting to them. Whatever the cause, it's about [censored]time!!!!

At least rails cost less to build than highways and most of those ex-double track ROWs are still intact and can be re-double tracked again.
