Back on here also . I used to get frustrated when the cam went down . Then I realized that we are fortunate to have someone provide this service free of charge . All electronic items have their bad days and I need to be patient as the cam is not the hotel`s top priority .      RON

Yeah, the two good ones are down for me too.  The slow cam is working, but don't bother... it is raining and the wind is from the west so the window in front of the lens is full of water drops that severely distort everything and refract car headlights in odd ways all over the view.Grumpy

The 1 frame per second link is working so it is just some intermediate server that is not working.

Yep.  Flag pole on the left.

The pole on the right is the lamp post on the pedestrian bridge that crosses the tracks Not the enclosed bridge associated with the hotel, but the girder/truss bridge closer to the camera.  The post is on the far side (east side) of the bridge and can be easily seen from Google Earth's Street view.  Position your self east of the pedestrian bridge on Norfolk Ave. and look UP.  There is a narrow cross bar near the top and if you look closely to the VMT cam image you can see it.

As for the view count... it is now at 65551, so they must be using at least a 17 bit counter (and probably a 32 bit), so we have no worries about that.

I now just found out that that "antenna" on the far left of the VMT railcam...actually seems to be a flagpole!  I just saw the flag wave on top in the wind!  That still leaves the mysterious antenna on the far right of the cam, right of the smokestacks.  It's not yet known where or what that one is.

I see the views have hit 65,535.  That must mean that no more people will view this thread ever again.  Either they'll be denied viewing, or the next viewer will cause the views to wrap around back to 0.  And if there are 0 viewers, how can there be any posts?  So, the posts will all be destroyed in a massive, fiery server crash.  And if the lone person who was the next unlucky viewer was looking at it, and there are 0 viewers, then how can he be viewing it?  So, his computer will also go through the roof.  You guys see what bizarre things I think about sometimes?  Er, let's hope this thread remains okay, eh?

Can anyone else confirm the hotel cam is down?  I haven't been getting it all day.  The VMT cam is fine, and its refresh rate is in the normal zone, so it's not like excessive traffic is hurting anything.  Anyone know what's going on?  Maybe we could PM that guy who was a representative from the Hotel Roanoke.

Whistling   WOW; excitement@ 8:10 am. Engine# 3559 had excessive smoke from e ngine in front of the hotel. The " wrenches" properly beat onthe cold smoker. At 8:25 all OK  and the train moved on and the wrenches left.   Camera is working fine now , maybe the wrenches beat on the camera as well, HEE  HEE.

They were working earlier today.  Now, all three methods that I know of to access the Hotel Roanoke RailCam seem to be non-working.

What did I miss here?  I had no connection over the weekend.  What came through?

Hee hee hee... since the main URL was down, nothing came through for most people unless they used the link to the slow "Stop action" URL.  I find that webcamera so disturbing that all I saw was a couple of coal trains west bound.  I didn't watch it much other than that.

Suggest watching the "other" cam.  Until the beginning of the week as Semper notes, when the "good" one might be restored.

The "other" cam is not streaming but does show if any activity is taking place, and what kind of day it happens to be.  It seems to restore about each second or so.

The good feed from the camera is still down and probably will be until mid morning on Monday.

A test of your computer would be to see if you can get to that "stop action" version (1 frame per second)  of the cam in the link I gave in my last post here (up about 3 from here).  If you can get to that one, you can be reasonably sure that the problem is not your computer.

Don't trash your computer yet....the cam is still down. Will probably be down until someone comes in on Monday, I would guess.
