DM&IR - CN

Any news on CN taking over DM&IR? CN plans to being DM&IR operations around June. Not sure how long Missabe locos will be around before CN replaces them. And they will replace them. CN wants DM&IR for the 17 miles of track through Superior which CN has trackage rights over. This would give them a direct route between Canada and Chicago.

As a B&LE fan I have seen the news on the purchase etc. Last I read was the sale is being reviewed by the US government for consideration. Completion pending around the 3rd quarter of this year. Although business is up for both BLE and DMIR, CN still appears to have intentions of keeping only certain trackage and abandoning alot of miles. But I look at things in a different light. I cant wait for CN to repaint all its locos in DMIR and BLE colors. Heee hee...

I read at least on shipper objection which was filed with the STB. It was from an iron ore mining company. They complained that CN had failed on their contracts to move ore from the Misabe (Duluth) area to Escanaba MI this winter and last which resulted in shutting down some furnaces in the Gary IN area.
The mine operator was worried that they would also fail on the Misabe - Lake Superior loads.
The CN has clearly proven to be a very customer-unfriendly operator and some of the things they've done are coming back to haunt them.
