research opportunities at Trains?

You may not get a rejection slip. Mark, like his precidessor, likes to hold on to stuff in case it can be used in the (far far?) future and can possibly be edited into something more useful than as originally submitted. I recall in TRAINS seeing photos submitted 40 or so years earlier and left in the files and not used but apparently not rejected, also some stories . Frankly, as a dejected -but not rejected so far, author, i'd just as soon have it that way because most of us readers who are aspiring authors do have the good of the magazine and the industry as a higher priority than personal fame and fortune. One of these days you'll be a big editor and poor brokrn down ol' Engineers like me can get our rejections back from you on our long windy narratives...

I am a senior in college with a major in creative writing, thinking about my career. My parents have told me that one likely opportunity for me would be in historical research and, of course, writing. I also enjoy studying history (especially local history of a particular area) and geography, and it just dawned on me that working for some publication like Trains would be right up my alley.
