EMDX
Posted by UPTRAIN on Tuesday, January 13, 2004 8:38 PM
Today I saw a EMDX unit in full UP paint but no UP lettering...it was a SD40(-2) 2824. I was just wondering if in fact this was an ex-UP.

More than likely is because when I worked at the Roseville loco shop I saw a few of them. But the only way you can be sure is to read the locos " Blue Card " which is its 92day cert. and past ownership.

I have also seen some GP38ACs in full UP with no red stripe seperating the grey and yellow with "pretty" non UP numbers and LLPX on them. Got any info on those?

UPTRAIN,
I didn't realize you are an engineer until I went to another post. Anytime you want to find the former owners of locos , they're stated on the standard UP card.

The GP38's in UP colors and lettered LLPX are owned by Locomotive Leasing Partners, which is a joint subsidiary of EMD & GATX. They are a mix of GP38AC's and GP38-2's and most of them are ex-DT&I and ex-LIRR.

LLPX has no standard paint scheme, the ex-Reserve Mining SD38-2's are painted blue with a white nose.

Heres a lil 2824 history......http://www.utahrails.net/all-time/all-time-42.htm It was a lease unit from LLPX...the lease expired on 6-6-02 and retired....but U.P. leased it for 90 more days, with the option to extend.

Net says...U.P. 2428 was EMDX 6430 blt 3-66...leased to U.P. on 11-18-99...numbered U.P. 4774.....on 2-7-02 they renumbered it to 2428 to keep from conflicting with the new 4700 series SD70M's. Prior to going to U.P, LLPX had these units rebuilt at VMV Enterprises loco shops in Paducah Kentucky....this shop has since went out of business....laterz

I thought I read somewhere that the Puducah shops had reopened. I hope they did reopen.
