Considering I drive a truck for a living......

As explained on the other thread, the engineer doesn't want to apply brakes until after the collision, because if they're going to hit the car no matter what, and if the brakes come on, there's no slack in the couplers to soften the inmapct for the passengers, who will get thrown around, that's the cause of injuries in the train, not flying debries, but the force of the collision throwing the passengers about in the rail cars.
Yes, it was.

The passengers are not feeling anything. they feel the trains momentum starting to slowdown real quick. from front to rear. Ive hit cars pick up trucks and a tractor trailer, no buses yet. the tractor trailer was felt alittle but if i would have been in the cooler getting some water i never would have known that i just hit a car or a pick up. when the train is put in emergency and it starts sitting down, you are pinned forward, its hard to describe but even after you stop you still seem to be pinned for a second or two.
Back when I used to walk home from school every day 2 miles along the BN/Metra tracks (from chicago to aurora) I came across 3 diffrent people over 3 years who drove off the crossings onto the tracks and each of them said "I thought it was the road" all three in the afternoon around 5-6pm and it was light out lol
They were all able to get there cars out/unstuck before any trains showed up by rocking them and with some help from all the people who stopped to help pushing
Thanks to Chris / CopCarSS for my avatar.

On my average trip, I'd say we have 3 or 4 close calls with a car and at least 1 with a tresspasser both directions of the trip.

As a engineer listening to the way he was blowing you could tell he was in oh shoot ( censored) mode, Now not the mode you thinking but more in the line of being mad because they just ruined a perfect day, the engineer could see the police lights and when he notice the car he didnt shoot them till the hit . but that long LONG last blow was the key that horn was crying .....Just like everyone of the engineers who has had this happen to them . lay on the horn til they move or you cream them. Ive had 3 crashes this year and this last one was so stupid , he said the lights and gates was not working, and that i was not blowing the horn . but the 20 other cars stopped at the crossing and the 3 crossing just before and the one just after all these people was stopped and heard the horn. and the 4 video security cameras caught all this . but im sure this lady is gong to say she never heard the horn and the gates was not working. and she is right they were not when she drove down the tracks and got stuck. but they was when the train showed up. just like this video the people at the crossing when i hit my last vehicle they all got a free life time memory of what i can do with my engine.
