<p>[quote user="silicon212"]Wasn't this the subject of another thread about a week or so ago?[/quote]</p><p>Yes, it was. </p><p>As explained on the other thread, the engineer doesn't want to apply brakes until after the collision, because if they're going to hit the car no matter what, and if the brakes come on, there's no slack in the couplers to soften the inmapct for the passengers, who will get thrown around, that's the cause of injuries in the train, not flying debries, but the force of the collision throwing the passengers about in the rail cars. </p>
