11 reasons to go to Summerail 2016

Thinking about going to the 2016 Summerail multimedia show and swap meet in Marion, Ohio, on Aug. 13? Here are a few reasons that you may not have considered...

11. Tickets are still available. If you can still get a ticket, why wouldn’t you go!

10. Three words: Marion Power Shovel. Yes, this city built the equipment that built America – and the huge crawlers that transported the space shuttles around Kennedy Space Center!

9. Northern Ohio is full of train-watching fun that you can roll into one trip! Deshler? Fostoria? Berea? Yep, they’re all nearby!

8. You really can’t shoot too much CSX main line action in one year. And Norfolk Southern is pretty cool, too, I guess.

7. On a dollars-per-hour basis, it’s cheaper than going to the movies. And you need to see about four movies to match the time at Summerail.

6. Trains Magazine’s Marion “Hot Spots” page is now open to everyone to plan your trips! Magazine subscribers can also access stories on other Ohio locations, like Glendale, Fostoria, and New London!

5. Railfan celebrity sightings. And if you see him, please tell me. I need that autograph, too!

4. Buy something nice for your wife. There are more than 80 vendor tables already sold for the swap meet.

3. Marion Union Station and AC Tower are among the top railfan destinations in the Midwest. Where else can you line a train in a vintage interlocking tower within feet of three mainline railroads?

2. You can reconnect with old friends. Enjoy a beer outdoors at The Shovel Lounge, located in front of Marion Union Station, and let the good times roll!

1. You can make a bunch of new friends! Sure, you could meet them one at a time at a lonely grade crossing in Indiana, identified only by the Railcom antenna on top of the car, but it’s much more efficient to do here!
