The followers of Trains Magazine's Facebook page are still speaking out on the proposed Canadian Pacific and Norfolk Southern merger. On Dec. 8, CP all but confirmed it would launch a hostile takeover bid for NS following two rejected offers to its board of directors. Immediately after, Trains' Facebook followers sounded off:
Radford Bean: Don't be badmouthing Canadians. It isn't a Canadian at the controls of CP. It's another greedy American tycoon. And did anyone actually understand the first point of the address to NS shareholders? Sounded like a bunch of goobledygook and doublespeak to me.Rhys Berryman: Maintain a cooperative agreement between the CP and the NS, but NOT a merger.Alex Campbell: CP, leave NS alone, as you have already stirred up many railfans during NKP #765's visit at Steamtown during RailFest. Canceling towards the last minute shows your disregard towards significance of US Railroad history. A merger will only cause more problems, and pushing it will cause more hostility.Joe Congemi: Take a hike CP! I'd use more coarse language but I don't want to be kicked off Facebook.Charlie Gallagher: Or maybe some of you can quit crying over this when half of you don't even work for either of the two railroads involved. There's an ideaJonathan Hartness: CP and the Pershing group are sounding desperate. Seems they've turned to trash talking NS instead of presenting a better case as to why this should happen.Marc Haon: Hunter must be hitting the Molson Ice pretty hard up there in Canada if he thinks this is ever gonna work!!Jared Klock: CP just needs to give up already, NS said no the first time, what makes them think that a little change in the proposal will change NS's mindEric Lemerise: Give up Harrison! NS said NO few times, why try and try again just to get shot down each time!!William Ottney: If this merger ever went through, perish the thought, I had a reporting mark in mind: SUX!Joe Samolewicz: What is Bill Ackman even talking about? Is he really claiming an investment firm knows how to operate a railroad better than a railroad employee? Does he even know what parts of a railroad are operations and what are financial? Why the need to place the blame on "pride"? Great job spewing up some nonsense there, Bill. You clearly are out of touch with what goes on beneath you.Michael Svoboda: I'd like to see NS take over CP, at least the US portion! CP sucks!Jack Watts: Hopefully CP takes over those heritage units would look great in CP red !Caleb Wright: Would be nice if Harrison would stop taking good companies and screwing up their reputations. Would be even nicer if he quit trying to merge with everything under the sun. I like CP AND NS, and it bothers me whenever merger proposals occur.
