10 reasons why you should enter Trains Photo Contest

on Friday, April 17, 2015

I looked up at the cobalt-blue sky contrasting with the salmon Davis Amtrak Station in Davis, Calif., and I couldn't help but capture the colors and the vintage Southern Pacific signage on March 13, 2015.  Angela Pusztai-Pasternak photo

Inspired by Jim's post earlier this week, I came up with this list of reasons why you should enter Trains 2015 Photo Contest with the theme, "It's all in the details."

  1. There are prizes.
  2. Your photo will appear in the magazine.
  3. You can make your friends jealous.
  4. The prize money could fund your next railfan adventure or new camera equipment.
  5. Think about all of the Steak 'n Shake, In-N-Out, or Culver's burgers you could buy! (Portillo's or Waffle House, my personal favorite)
  6. You take railroad photos anyway, and there's still plenty of time to enter.
  7. You know you take better photos than everyone else.
  8. The theme may be interpreted six ways to Sunday.
  9. "Award-winning" would look cool before "photographer" on your business cards.
  10. It beats complaining about the winners, once they're published in the October 2015 issue of Trains, and you're not.
I hope you find inspiration from one of these reasons. Want more details about this year's contest, "It's All in the Details?" Go here now!
I love to find relics of past railroads, like this Santa Fe bridge in Pinole, Calif., on March 15, 2015. And, again, I couldn't help but be drawn in by the lettering. A keen eye might also notice the tiny railfan in the background, otherwise known as Classic Trains Editor Rob McGonigal. Angela Pusztai-Pasternak photo
