Conrail had C40-8Ws and SD80MACs. I agree that a SD70 in GTW paint would look great!

I'd like to see some Conrail Dash-9's and SD90 MAC's. A GT SD70 would look cool too.

A kid I know from the TAMR has a "what if" Penn Central. He e-mailed me today and said that the paint scheme is CNW style, but the stripe is jade green and the rest of the carbody is black.

Now here is my what if railroad (I don't model this, it's just an idea).

Against the thoughts of the guy I was telling you about above, the Penn Central never was created. The Erie Lackawanna takes over New Jersey Transit and Metro North. In 1985 sucessful aquisition of the Lehigh Valley is completed. But then, in 1994, Norfolk Southern buys all of the EL[:(].

The EL would have had this roster (as of 1993)

SD40M-2(rebuilt by MK from SD45s and SDP45s)
SD60M
C36-7
C40-8

Well...I'm not much into "modern" railroading (after about 1980) but I could REALLY do the Virginian in the late 1960's to mid 1970's. I'd stick with their basic black with yellow paint scheme, lettering and heralds. I'd have to keep some Train-Masters around and since FM would be gone they would have switched over to Alco for their heavy six-axle power......C-628/630/636 and for 4-axle power they would have RS-11's and some C-420/430's. Obviously they would keep the high short hoods!

Electric service would still be utilized and the E-2c's and EL-C's would still be working along with E-44's and the Great Northern W-1 after GN retired their wires.

BA Berkshire #507 would have been preserved along with a PA 4-6-2 for their operating/historical collection.

Naturally they would have cabooses but almost all of those would have been replaced by International wide-vision types.

Well i think im going to go one step beyond just the fallen flags...I wanna say that ALCO-MLW-Bombardier never went out of business. So not only would there be SD70MACs and AC4400s painted in NYCs Lighting stripe...but ALCO C650W and their AC counterparts the C650ACW in NYC Lightning stripe. And then up in Canada...the M-Line went on and so did Bombardiers HR line...with the M644, the M644W, the M650W and M650ACW...and BBDs HR618-40 the HR618-50 and the HR620-60....what a would it would be!!!!!!!!!!

[:D]I'd like to see the C&NW '400' passenger train with ACELA-style equipment, making the dash between Chicago and points north in its handsome green & yellow paint scheme. Of course, if building a modern catenary system proved cost prohibitive, we could substitute non-electric equipment and still have an handsome streamliner gracing the rails.

Let's not foget interurbans! If the Lansing and St. Johns Electric Railway still ran, I'd have a pleasant commute to work each day. Train to the city, transfer to city bus, to work's front door. That would be much nicer than fighting traffic.

How about the Rio Grande, standing firm, and running passanger trains. PH40s in Grande Gold and silver with the single black stripe. SD70Ms in the Black and Orange. SD90MACs also in Black and orange. That would be exceedingly Grande!!

I would like is a Jawn Henry steam-turbine locomotive painted for the Erie Lackawanna.It could have happened because the N&W considered buying 25 more of the beasts plus N&W controlled the Erie Lackawanna.

That would have given us Chinese Red SD-40-2s, Big Sky Blue F45s, and black & yellow C30-7s, for example. What if.......?

Well I don't even have a NYC car let alone recognize the 1968 fiasco so I have E60Cp's and E60CF's in catwhiskers (never understood why Walthers would do them in RI and not PRR), AEM7 in a single stripe GG1 scheme and a C449W in DGLE with keystones. One of the E60CP's is Tuscan for pulling my Congo.

Think about new SDs and GE locomotives in NYC lightning stripes, or new SDs in Western Maryland speed lettering (black and gold - lovely!) or maybe Nickel Plate black and yellow, or how about Virginian?

I model a fallen flag. I model the blue Route Rock with the big R. I model as if the Route Rock was the major railroad in the country. The paint schemes are varied just like the Rock was. The major power like SD90macs and ACC4400's are a dark blue with a white stripe down the sides and red pinstripes. The other locos are different shades of blue with some UP locos with their numbers covered up and renumbered. It makes it fun modeling a fallen flag, the freedom to do what you want is enormous. Like not needing the correct plows or horns and I even took a leap and made a cabless Dash 9-44.

All the locos of course have the Big R on the sides.

Hmmm...a Sacramento Northern "Acela" electric train, running high-speed from Chico to San Francisco, would be interesting indeed, with a set of CAF LRV's for city trolley lines. On the freight end, oh, I don't know enough about modern freight engines but given the SN's tendency to never give up on motive power they'd probably still be toting loads around with the GP7's they got in the Seventies from WP.

This is the What if ? factor. . . .What if the " Fallen Flag " Railroads never have when bellyup and are still around,with Modern equipment to boot !! [;)] If so What Locos and/or what colors ?? [:D] For example Myself : PRR : passenger : ALP44 Tuscan Red w/5 Goldlux Stripes ( working on it now) . freight : SD80MAC Brunswick Green w/ 1 White Stripe. Second choice SD38-2 Brunswick Green w/Goldlux Futura Lettering no stripe.
