Jeff, overall how would you compare your Athearns to your Atlas', Kato's, LL's and BLI's?
JaRRell
LL - Great pulling power, excellent tracking, very smooth running and Ok looks. Negative is no sound and weights must be cut down to make room for sound.
Kato - Good pulling power, good tracking, smooth running and great looks. Negative is lots and lots of little parts (unless you like them) to pull it all together and no sound.
Atlas - Good pulling power, good tracking, smooth running, great sound and very good looks. The only negative is that the 6 axel diesels are the most sensitive to any track imperfections. The trucks seem tighter.
BLI - Good pulling power, good tracking, smooth running, great sound and good looks. Almost as good looking as Kato and Atlas but not quite.
Athearn - Good pulling power, very good trracking, semi-smooth running, good looks and best prices. Negative is no sound and noisiest units in the fleet.
I'd rate Athearn's as the best value, if you aren't looking for sound. You can't beat the P2Ks for smoothness and power. As far as overall satisfaction I'd give BLI a slight edge over Atlas but it depends upon your criteria and what is most important to you. For me it is how does it run out of the box, does it have sound available and how does it look. I am waiting for the next run of Atlas Dash 8s due in November. I am also looking forward to the Precision Craft Models SW1500s due in January.

Chalk antoher one up for the Tuscola,Newman, & Eastern. The roster has expanded:
1 SD7 TN&E
A old bachman model, its in the shops awaithing a new motor.
To me it means,
quiet, reliable, least derailments, slow starts without a 'hiccup', never balky, good slow speed even to a crawl, responds to commands quickly and surely.
that all mine would do this.
I feel I should be listing about 50 locos here, but I have so far to go!!
SW1500 - Athearn
GP40 - Athearn
SD40 - AthRTR
SD45T-2 - AthRTR
U25B - Stewart
SSW
B40-8W - Walthers Trainline (great loco)
DRGW
GP50 - Athearn
SD50 - Athearn
UNDEC - (soon to be SP)
SD45 - Kato
You guys are nuts- or is it me?
I have twice as much as I need, need to get rid of at least half. A third of this was from cherry picking my Dad's collection that I sold off. The Heisler and train set stuff were all gifts from the Chairman of the Board.
HO- RTR
HO -kits to build
HOn3
Also about 5 Lionel locos.
Fred Wright
Well...To say the least, I have too many, and that doesn't count what I've given away as gifts, sold or have for sale.
The current roster for the pike includes five fleets:
Colvin Creek Railway:
2-Moguls (2-6-0). Peddler freight and mixed trains (mostly on the northern subdivisions).
2 Mountains (4-8-2). Fast through freight.
2-Consolidations (2-8-0). Local passenger and helper service.
2-Articulated Loggers (2-6-6-2). Log drags from Whyte Junction to Sawyer's Mill.
4-SD-9's. Everywhere, doing everything except the northern subdivisions.
1-Cow & Calf SW-7. Helper service on the hill
1-Pacific (4-6-2). Fast passenger service, "Midnight Flyer" Duluth to Ely.
1-Goat (0-4-0). Working the Colvin Backshops.
DM&IR:

Sawyer Lumber:
1-Shay, 80 ton, three truck. 1-Shay, 60 ton, two truck. 1-Climax, 50 ton Class B two truck. Working the logging spurs.
1-Climax, 25 ton, two truck. Working the Cascade wye and the spur to Devil's Track Lk..
1-Baldwin (0-6-0T). Working the yard and Sawyer Lumber shops at Whyte.
1-Set of paired "Critters". Switching at Sawyer's Mill

1-SW-9. Switching the brewery.
Great Northern Railway:
1-A-B-A Set F-7. Pulling the Empire Builder
2-GP-9's. Leased power for both the DM&IR and the CCRY
That's what they are, in prototypical colors. They were demonstarted on CN and arrived painted in the colors at the time. Decals were on an Accucal sheet.
So they aren't a figment of my imagination!

It is a whole nuther topic, JaRRel, but I wonder if we should operationalize "best runner" so that we know what you mean....since you introduced it as a sub-topic.
