southern pacific locos in alabama?

|I am currently researching an HO switching layout , which is to be based in both Alabama and Chicago during the 1990's. Since I have several SP locos in my fleet, I would like to know if i can mix them in with my NS, CSX and KCS locos.

let me explain the 2-State approach. I intend to use the same track plan for both states, but have interchangeable dioramas of buildings appropriate for chicago, and others more suited to Alabama, which will fit into precut bases, thus altering the feel of the layout. although still at an early stage I already have a name for the layout - Sweethome. Get it?

Can't back it up with a photo, but I've sen SP locos passing thru Huntsville, AL (I lived there '58-'02).

Very common in past with NS locomotives (as pool units I suppose). The SP units seen in Alabama are usually very dirty making for great weathering projects if you go ahead with your modeling plans. Have seen them in Birmingham and Opelika located in east central Alabama about 30 miles NW of Columbus GA. Hope this info helps in your decision making.

I am very much into heavy weathering of 'everything' , although Ive just finished an Alco C424 in Belt Railway of Chicago colours (colors, but note - Railway, not Railroad!) and I'm loathe to dirty it down yet. Give me a few months to get used to it.
