Thomas the Tank

just joined this forum today. I've been in the hobby for upteen years and I've gotten my grandson started. My question is, "Does any one have a copy of the track layout that Thomas the Tank engine is taped. "? I was given several VCR tapes of Thomas the Tank and Friends. The layout that is used for this show looks good. I would like to get a copy of the layout. This would help answer a question.[?][:o)]

Welcome.

An article on the production of Thomas the Tank Engine was published in Model Railroader many years ago (I think it was in the early 90s). From what I recall the "Layout" is actually a series of modules that rest on casters. They used a large room (something like a basketball court I guess) and moved the modules around to assemble a scene and shoot it. I know it is much more complicated than that but I think you get the picture. Enjoy your visits with us. - Ed

ou need to get a copy of the big book of Thomas "Thomas the Tank Engine" by Rev. W Awdry, Random House Value Publishing, New York 1996. Inside the covers is a map and layout (general) of the island of Sodor and Sir Top'em Hats railway.

I always thought it was funny when people called it Thomas the TANK. Thomas is a tank ENGINE, not an implement of war. Then again, it might make an interesting concept after all! :D
