dcc is just coming into its own. information is easily avalible. just buy MR and check the ads. all the major players are in there. they will be glad to send you all the info you will need including sound decoders that are avalible, with the systems. when you read all the info you should be able to make an informed decision on what will work for you good luck.

Easy DCC from CVP Products in Richardson, Texas (www.cvpusa.com) ; Digitrax; North Coast Engineering; or any Lenz system should work just fine with any SoundTraxx sound decoder. Based on my personal experience, Atlas is another one that will not work with sound decoders, even though it is made by Lenz, because too many functions were eliminated to keep the cost down. MRC has released a low-cost sound decoder, but it also has very limited sounds available as compared to a $100 SoundTraxx decoder. You can read an honest opinion about the MRC decoder on the Tony's Train Exchange Web site at www.ttx-ddc.com.

rsn48 - I notice that you said MRC 2000 is the worst of DCC. What systems have you worked with, what system do you consider the best, and why? I am looking around through all of the forums trying to get info on DCC systems. I want to buy a decent system for operation and onboard sound control. I do not want to something that I will have to replace after a short while.

Yes you can use any decoders, but your MRC 2000 can access only two functions.

No you can't use sound. But the sound decoders are really expensive. By the time you have money for a really decent DCC system, the prices will have come down on the sound decoders.

I have a saying - "the worst dcc is better than the best dc." And your MRC 2000 is the worst of dcc. But it will get you into the dcc game, you'll learn lots about it, form your own opinions, enjoy no block running. And be more knowleadgeable in your next dcc purchase. So although your MRC 2000 is the worst of dcc, it is way better than anything dc out there.

I have the Command 2000 DCC and love it. Can I use decoders from other companies with this unit? Any limitations? Also was wondering if the new sound decoders would work with this unit? I have trouble even getting the decoders in some engines (HO ) much less trying to get a speaker and another decoder under the frame? Any advice would be appreciated.
