"As a matter of fact" - a phrase that usually means; "Here is my uninformed opinion, which I'm presenting as fact."

The NH's trains weren't as well appointed as the Santa Fe's, nor were they as well known throughout the US and the rest of the world.

[:D][:D][:D] LOL! [:D][:D][:D]

Good on yer, David! The New Haven's name trains were much more luxurious and much better known, weren't they?

Oh, they weren't?

Toodle-loo,

Mark.

As a matter of fact they were more luxurious and any one traveling in the Northeast knew them.

Was the Sewer Chief an all Pullman Parlor train like the Merhants Ltd.?

Was time kept in seconds across the desert?

Oh no, coach again and late...

Tell me - whats so special about the Super Chief and Santa Fe? Nothing except its over rated and promoted.

The worrying thing is that Ford now own Land Rover and seem intent on pushing them into making this sort of thing. Think I'll be keeping my '96 Disco for a for more years to come - no electronics other than the radio, manual transmission (saves fuel - you see around 7mpg improvement compared to the auto version, 30mpg rather than 22) and a simple lever to handle diff lock and transfer box. Only driver aid is power steering. A bit more reliable than the new models too by the sounds of it...

Actually, I believe they sold Land Rover off. I believe BMW now owns it. I am not sure.

Actually, in the automotive world, the Super Chief was first a Pontiac.

Yeah I myself own a `96 T-Bird and used to own a `95 F-150 and before that an `83 T-bird. My favorite car ford makes are the mustangs. But that botched abortion is not a truck.

That thing might be ugly, but don't badmouth Fords. Especially the Mustang[:(!]....... The only bad Fords IMHO were the Pinto, tempo, 1980 T-bird, the Festiva (not fiesta, a cooler euro car) Edsels, and all American escorts......But the trucks were always Ford's strong point, more so than cars. My dad swears by Ford trucks, and won't take any other truck.

It's hard to remain a blue oval loyalist when they keep cranking out stupid stuff like this. It's a pick-up truck. The only thing luxury on a pick-up truck should be an ashtray and automatic transmission. This is just another obscenely overpirced piece of garbage for stupid yuppy imbiciles who just don't "get it". Only time that thing will pull any off-road duty is if the dunce driving it backs into his wife's flowerbed.

Amtrak did have to change the name of the Chi/LAX run to "Southwest Chief" because BNSF didn't want to give up rights to the name...

"And now, from the company that brought you the Pinto, the Edsel and the Lincoln with suicide doors, we present the dog-butt-ugliest truck ever, the Ford Stupor Chief."

I think I'm going to go outside and hug my Silverado. [:D]

That is one ugly pickup!

I doubt ATSF "owned" the Super Chief name, but if it did, that ownership would pass to BNSF as its decendent. This would be a good time for BNSF to assert the same rights over its trademarks as UP has been doing lately, and sue the pants off Ford for ripping off (and disgracing) the Super Chief name!

I hate FORD's, that truck's uglier than s*** and i think someone should sue them for using the name "super chief" too bad Santa Fe isn't still around they could do that. (the super chief was after all, a SF train)

The Super Chief was originally a passenger train--the name applied to the whole consist, including brand-new diesel locomotive and stainless steel cars. It was premiered at the same time that AT&SF completed a multi-million dollar project of track/roadbed improvement. Because of the powerful engine, the track improvements, and the fact that a diesel-electric locomotive didn't need to stop for water every ten or twenty miles, it could keep a very regular schedule and go very fast: Chicago to Los Angeles in about 48 hours. It was also an all-sleeper train--no chair cars--with an observation car and a four-star restaurant for a diner, the Cochiti.

There was a Pontiac Super Chief, but the AT&SF one came first.

Pulled by this monster--an FP-45.

Or my personal favorite: Five Hundred Million in warranty repairs last year... Wait, you can't make that sentence using only the letters FORD. Oh well... [:-^]
