I built a grain elevator using PVC pipe. I drilled a small hole near the bottom of each tube and bolted each section together. Then, I traced around the completed silos onto sheet styrene for the roof, adding about 1/8" for the "lip" that is typical of these structures.
I have seen similar scratchbuilt structures at a number of train shows.

Has anyone modeled concrete silo for cement mills?
I'm modeling an area that has several Portland Cement plants that have a number of concrete storage silos. I'm thinking about using PVC pipe to do this where the ends of the silo clusters would be round and the center sections would be a portion of the PVC pipe.
