Has anyone seen a dealer display E-7 unit. Im thinking about getting a Southern Railway unit. Ive heard the sound on the steam units and im truly impressed.

HMMMMMM This is an old post, all I can say is I have a Hudson, and it does campare with any proto 2000 or Bachmann engine, It runs great, Is very powerful, sounds terrific,but does not have a working front coupler. Have no idea how difficult it would be to put one there, as of yet I have had no need for one, but it cant be That hard
Having said all that, pics of the new mikado on their web site do not seem as detailed as my Hudson, seems it has more cast on piping etc, one of the many things that turned me off to Athearn steamers

Do the Broadway Ltd Steam engines have working front couplers?

If not, is it easy to put one in?

I'd really like to see this information as part of any locomotive
review. I'm worried that the front-coupler-less Athean Mikado
may be setting the (unacceptable) standard in this area....

Actually it is a J1 Hudson but, yes, clearly not a Pennsy K-4 Pacific

I think your referring to their the NYC. 4-6-4 J3 hudson, not a Pennys K-4 4-6-2 Pacific!

Having been in the vicinity of the National recently in Fort Lauderdale...About the Broadway Limited. Members in our group, My self included do not think enough thought was put in to the over all steam locomotive " Pennsylvania K4 Hudson" Model. The engine does not come close to the steam engines being offered now by Proto 2000 and others. Sure the sound is great. I should hope they now will offer more detailed engines equal to the fabulous sound unit included. They should think of including a partnership with some of the offerings now also available on the market. I myself would be looking towards the heavy Mikado some body said might be a future offering .

I had to make an "emergency" run back to the hobby shop today for additional supplies. The owner had the Hudson up and running on the store layout this time. I'm truly surprised at how loud and distinct the sound system is considering the small size of the dual speakers. Operating the system on straight DC is a little funky but I'm sure one will quickly get used to it.

The addition of quality sound puts Broadway Ltd.'s entries in a totally new class of off-the-shelf motive power and the other mfg.s are going to have to play some serious catch-up to stay competitive with it. I must say it's downright startling to hear the brakes squeal as the loco slows down and comes to a stop!

I saw a "dealer's demo" at the local hobby shop yesterday. The store owner was just unpacking it. He advises regular shipment of the Hudson will begin in September. Model certainly was impressive looking (hadn't been placed on the layout tracks before I left so I didn't hear the sound system work). Nice catalog also available now from Broadway Ltd. outlining future models. Down the line is a nice USRA heavy 2-8-2 in many road names that interested me.

I'd expect MR to review the Hudson before its Christmas issue.

Anyone who models steam and hasn't got an endless bank roll has probably been looking at the Broadway Ltd Imports ads for their sound equipped plastic steamers, on the face of it a really quite an exciting developemnt and pretty good value.

But has anyone got one yet - the Hudson should have shipped by now? Are they any good? And is Model Railroader going to review any of their products and if so when?
