I got my full day off to have fun, and after buying the wife a valentines gift (duty before play!) I set off for the MRS store. This was not a particularly good RR store. Nothing at all that caught my fancy. So a few miles drive north and I got to The Train Shoppe. I had an enjoyable hour chatting about trains and looking at the layout in the loft. Turns out that one of the staff was a CB&Q modeller as well, so we had a typical bull session about what we have at home, you know, the "I've got more trains than you" type of conversation. (He has more than me by the way). Then off to Ogden and a really enjoyable look around the Union Station museums. The model RR based on the Watsach mountains and the surrounding area was a real treat. Some really impressive trestles and mountain scenery. A small, but really well put together museum. I also took the time to look in the Browning museum, but I know nothing about guns and frankly after I've seen on rifle, they all kind of look the same. Anyway, Wes, thanks for your suggestions, I had a really good time in SLC. In about an hour I fly to Portland, and hope to get a few minutes to visit some of the hobby shops there as well.

The to best shops for trains, are The Train Shoppe on 900 East and 5th South in SLC, the other is MRS in Sandy on about 9400 South and 9th East. The Train Shoppe is my favorite, even though I live a long way away. I forgot to mention that the museum in Ogden is also home to the Browning Firearms gun collection and what is left of the Browning families antique car collection (yes the Brownings were from Ogden).

The best train show in the state (as far as I'm concerned) is also in Ogden at Union Station. It is usually held sometime in March, but I haven't seen a date for it yet, and they have the entire museum open during the show. They even have volunteers available to tour some of the preserved 1:1 stuff!

I'm sure you're aware that Promontory Point is located here as well. It's about an hour west of Ogden. Make sure if you go that the replicas of Jupiter and 119 are going to be operating that day. It's a long drive for not much if they aren't running....just my thoughts though.

Enjoy your trip out here!

Thanks Wes, I might have time to get up to Ogden. Do you know any good hobby shops in SLC?

The only public MRR I know of around SLC is the Ogden Union Station display in Ogden Ut, about 40 miles north of SLC. It is a really good museum, it houses the states collection of donated locomotives and rolling stock...worth a look if you have the time...

Hi Folks, I am off to Salt Lake City for a couple of days on business, but anticipate having some time on Tuesday afternoon to look around. Any good hobby shops or MRR must sees in the area?

Thanks
