Is yours the newer plastic boilered version with the reduction gear, or the older metal boilered one?
The red wire on the newer version does go to the wiper of the insulated drivers and the black wire should be grounded to the motor case.
I can Email you a scan of the plastic boilered version exploded view and part list if you need it.

[need some help on a roundhouse 060 tank loco i have had for long time,
cant seem to find paper work on how to put it to gether.
mainly how the motor wires to the wheels .insulated wheels on one side
red motor wire? .
