Sitting at my youngest's club soccer tryout right now. Last year's tryout was low 80's and humid. This year is mid 50's and foggy. Bizarre.

Speaking of Landyachtz, I must admit I do miss the luxury of my first car which was a Buick Centurion. Like driving your living room down the highway. When the commercial said "Wouldn't You Really Rather Have a Buick", I had no argument back then. Now you need to take out special low interest financing to drive a car like that over to your friend's house.

My wife came back from Seattle last night. Her flight was supposed to arrive at 10:00PM, but was delayed until 1:30 AM.
She met a lady on the plane that was stranded at the airport because her rental car place was closed. Only National was open, and they were out of cars. She asked me to give her a ride.
Once this woman was in the car, she kept on changing her destination, and then asked to be taken to Gulf Coast Hospital emergency room. I asked what was wrong, and she said she hurt her knee in Boston and wanted to get it looked at.
The flight was from Seattle.
Whatever, I dropped her off at the hospital with her luggage. We did not get home until after 3:00 AM.

I never liked land yachts but my FIL sure did. He was a Lincoln man. When I met my wife to be, he drove a white Continental Mk. IV, later he had a MKV that was even larger. In the '80s he 'downsized' to a Town Car. The Volvo S80 I have now is the largest car I have ever owned. Wait, I lied, for 6 months in '79 I had a '77 Plymouth Grand Fury complete with the 400 cu. in. engine. I traded it in on a Capri, which was a Mercury Mustang.
I cleaned the track on the layout today as I have a beach train ready to go with the J4e Pacific on point just like I remember when I was a lad in 1958.
Time to get back outside as I am on soil duty, filling a pail so she can plant pots at her potting bench.

Is that going to be real dirt or that prissy techno-stuff you buy in bags at Home Depot or the nursery (if you have the bucks)? I know where you're coming from. When folks see our backyard for the first time they're apt to look at both of us and say how nice it is. I generally offer, "She's the gardener, I just dig the holes." Accompanying husbands nod understandingly.

I'm still on the mailing list for my old club (I still pay annual dues). I just got a note that someone donated almost $10,000 worth of train stuff, all in good condition and all saleable! The timing couldn't be better. The club has had to cancel three train shows since Covid started. Those shows paid the bills. The donation will pay the rent for most of a year.
My wonderful wife Dianne asked me if there was anything on the list that I would be interested in. She has never objected to me spending money on train stuff. Alas, there wasn't anything that I didn't already have so I decided not to indulge.

Thunder is cracking but not raining. We have had a few showers and more expected for a few days. I have a grocery run later. Hope it stops. We are still doing curbside. I haven't been in a grocery store since March, 2020.
Still missing Robbie, think of him every day. This will be the second summer without him.

The wife's car has to go back to the shop again. The dealer is chasing an issue with the turbo on the car. First step was completed last week (A drain system on the intercooler to address accumulated fluids. Condensation really). Got the same trouble code again yesterday. Looks like a new turbo is next.
Went camping this weekend. Upon returning home, I discovered the black tank is still showing 2/3 full. From what I read, it's most likely something like toilet paper (or worse) stuck on the level sensor. Not a huge deal as the toilet is a straight drop into the tank so I can keep an eye on the level manually the next time we head out. Still, I sure like things like that to work. Hopefully another fill and dump of the tank solves it.

The appliances will be loaded onto the SIR ROBERT BOND for shipment to Labrador. The BOND was in Labrador service at the time after being bumped from North Sydney to Port aux Basques ferry service. Okay Bro Elias, you have finally broken my resolve! Our local Diner, which we visit frequently, offers a seriously delicious looking Eggs Benedict. So far I have managed to resist the temptation because I have repeatedly told myself that Eggs Benedict isn't a particularly healthy dish (as if the rest of the stuff on the menu was low calorie! Ha!). Next time we go to breakfast I will order Eggs Benedict! Damn the torpedos! Full speed ahead!! If I get addicted to it, it's all your fault!!

I got ambitious last night and went through all of the stuff that I have in boxes. Obviously my memory is failing because I found several items that I had totally forgotten about. For example, I thought I had three TH&B locomotives. I have six! (I'm not complaining!). I thought I had about a dozen CP diesel locomotives. I have more than 20! (I'm still not complaining!!).
I also discovered numerous freight car kits and RTR cars that I had totally forgotten about. I found a box of 16 Union Pacific covered hoppers and a box of five Milwaukie Rd horizontal rib 40' steel boxcars. I have six Walthers Russell snow plow kits as well as six or more other snow plows in various states of assembly.
Obviously I have far more rolling stock pieces than I could ever fit onto my 5' x 12' layout. I'm going to cull the herd and give the surplus to my old club. I have absolutely no interest in putting them on eBay. Life is too short. I don't need the hassle.
Despite all of that, I still search eBay for unusual items and bargains.

I was not able to get to the diner for a while. On the road, I visited some other diners, but none had the interesting people my favorite diner has.
While the rest of the world worked, I was having a very difficult time relaxing in my daughter's backyard:
I returned home to an overgrown lawn and piles of mail. I think I'd rather be back there.
Dave, I agree about Lion's posting. I haven't had Eggs Benedict since I was in New Orleans, but seeing his food photos has me wanting some.
Charlie, I completely understand about your dog. Somehow those dogs get into our lives so much with their unconditional love. The house sure seems empty when they're not around.
I have a lot of yard work waiting. I'll probably check in later today when I recover from the unpleasant task. We're supposed to top out at 105°F today, so I need to get this done early.

My memories of Eggs Benedict go along with my memories of cruising on our favorite small liner, only 300 or so passengers. I actually had Eggs Benedict most mornings, because I could. Not healthy, but it was only for 7-10 days of luxury. I haven't had them since Covid pushed us out of cruising.
On a side note, I was reading on some garbage web page that actor Dirk Benedict, an "action figure" from the likes of The A-Team and the original Battlestar Galactica, took his screen name from a breakfast menu item.

We just had a tornado "warning" here. The sirens were going off and for a couple of minutes, it looked plausible. I went outside and looked up as soon as the rain let up. I have to admit that I hadn't seen that much turbulence and swirling in a cloud since I left Kansas. Yeah, one could've formed in the cloud, but didn't, or if it did it would be a ways east. But. Didn't see any rotation forming.
They do things a little differently here. Where I come from, if you hear the sirens, one is on the ground headed your way. Take cover! Here, they see it different. Oh well, I think no tornado and everyone is safe. That's good. I think there were 80 mph wind gusts in the area.

Jim, out here in my small town, it is generally the same as Kansas.
Years ago, they used the sirens anytime radar indicated or someone thought it might be a tornado. There were so many false alarms that they found out people were not taking the sirens seriously.
Now, a tornado actually has to be sighted before the sirens go off. When we hear the sirens, we know we better head for the basement since one is on the ground headed our way.
As Kevin has commented about hurricane warnings in Florida, weathermen sometimes go overboard predicting that every storm is the storm of the century, resulting in people ignoring the warnings.
