At least once a day someone picks up a special order and then immediately returns it because it was not what they wanted.

John. Ah! The rules of cricket. When I had to stop playing in the 1970s I took up being an umpire (referee). It seemed every week the rules were being changed. Confusing to say the least.
As for cheese rolling? Out and out dangerous to me. Everyone is a candidate to finish up in hospital.
White Russian and Black Russian? Dawn's favourites when on a cruise.

Speaking of perfectionism and not being able to live with something, I have a serious problem with that over here. It's one thing when something's not to your liking but can be fixed by adding to it, but it's another when you have to take five steps backwards to correct something that won't work.
The cork laminated cookie cutter on my removable tunnel module was put on an inch too far towards the edge. Didn't realize that till an ore bin that transfers ore to the ore loader was mocked-up. Of course 5000 PSI wood glue was already used so it's permanent.
It will have to be destroyed with the multi-tool is the only way it can be removed to make a new one installed correctly. Don't believe anything on the layout has been done to satisfaction the first time around. So it just sits there awhile like many other projects have. Just can't destroy something right away after all that work until it simmers for a month or two
Well, Guess that's why they say Hindsight is the Best Site and you'ld sure think it's been learned by now. No matter how hard ya try to look ahead, something always seems to escape your attention. This is why I'm the Slowest Modeler in the Midwest
On the Russian Front. White and Black Russians used to be a frequent drink with our gang at Champions Saloon & Eatery. Those are out of my league fitting into the hard liquor category now-a-days. Learned years ago, hard alcohol sneaks up on me so I stay away from it. They sure we're good though.

Hi TF, I'm alive and kicking, just not much to say lately.
We have been busy planting flower pots. Gone through 12 large bags of potting soil so far and more to go. I think we need to scale things back next year. Still haven't decided on the fence as I can't get my wife to decide on the colour of the wood. She wanted cedar but that is a no go, can't get it and one quote was the cost of a new car.
Speaking of cars, gas here has hit $2.08/litre, about $6.10 US/ gal. Good thing we don't drive much.
Had my last appointment with my opthamologist today. He is retiring. My glaucoma is stable so no worries. Our optomatrist will take over.

Just popping in to say hello. Been very busy lately.
Model train news - Finally had time to finish (HA!) the Mantua 4-6-2 rebuild. (Or so I thought....)
I got the new motor instaled and wired up, took a spare motherboard and wired in new tender pick ups. (New trucks with all wheel pickup fully insulated from tender frame.) Wired the motor, and new LED headlight, and added a 8-pin decoder. I also got brave and installed a (thought fully) insulated left side driver power wiper for all driver electrical pickup.
Tested great!
Then I placed the boiler back onto the frame...... Instant short! Dummy me forgot that the boiler shell also conducts electricity, being diecast metal and all, and it touches the top of the (was fully insulated) left side wiper.....
Back to the workbench for some heat shrink tubing & Kapton....
Layout update - Another "D'Oh" moment.... The new layout space is 6" longer on one corner, so I will correct the size difference before adding the second section on. Good thing that benchwork was from the old layout and it's not a case of "measure once cut twice" on my part. Will be an easy enough fix, then I can begin building the short side of the L shaped new section. (Looks silly not going all the way to the corner by 6"...)

That's a distinct possibility isn't it Kevin? Tom was helping me by giving me directions how to post multiple quotes on one post a while back. He said he was getting 403's more frequently at that time.
Personally, I haven't been able to post well as I normally would because the site keeps freezing up everywhere to the point where sometimes I can barely even back out. Posts on my phone with quotes or pictures have taken over a 1/2 hour sometimes or I just give up because they disappear midstream.
I seriously wonder if it has something to do with some of the advertising here as it almost seems like a virus when some of them are present popping up half the screen. Especially the one with the kid bending over in the boat and the shoes. Wayne was saying the same thing over on Show Me Something about the site freezing up on him. He was wondering if it was his computer or if others were having the same problem.

Had an interesting evening yesterday attempting to help my in-laws clean out my wife's grandmother's house some. She is in an assissted living home. Been there for years and will never live on her own again. The only kids were my mother in law and her brother. Her brother is the executor of the estate and apparently has some issues letting go. He is the reason the house hasn't been sold in the five or six years it's been empty. He showed up last night to find my wife going through the old photo albums and trying to separate pictures (this person in this pile, that person in that pile, etc). He freaked out. Said he has zero photos and demands that he goes through every photo himself to ensure he gets what he wants. Why he hasn't done that in the last five years, who knows. Now he has helped himself to plenty out there (including two vehicles!) without alerting or working through my mother in law to be decent and try to keep things even between them, but heaven forbid my wife gets an old picture of herself. This is going to be a PITA. My mother in law as at the other extreme. She doesn't want to look at/through anything. Just wants to pitch it and be done. She almost pitched the real silverware, an old journal from my wife's great great grandfather's time serving in WWI, china dishes, etc.
The uncle (mother in law's brother) has zero other family, so all the stuff he is hoarding and hiding away will all have to be taken care of again, by us, when he passes. Ugh.

This house just sold on the next street over.
It is built the same year as mine, same SqFt, and same size lot. It has an updated kitchen but not much else.
It looks like after 15 years, my house is back to what it was worth in 2007 before the crash.

Mike. Going through families possessions after they have passed can be a PITA. Sometimes you ask yourself 'Why have they kept this and that?' It may have been useful in 1941, but not now. That's why we do a 'clear out' every so often. Anything we don't want we ask our children 'do they want it'. Invariably the answer is 'No', so out it goes.
Having said that, Dawn had an old pit pony bell. A small bell pit ponies wore around their neck. This bell came from a pony called Victoria. She had lived most of her life down a pit near Consett, County Durham. Upon the closure of the pit the ponies came to the surface and spent the rest of their lives in a large field looked after by old farmers.
Dawn's father acquired Victoria's bell. Dawn was the next owner. Our daughter, Rachel always liked the story of the bell, so on one of our house moves she took custody of it. She now tells the story to her daughter. Though I rarely see it these days I know the bell is in safe hands.

When my father passed in 1997 my two sisters got in a huge battle over a lot of the stuff he had saved. I wanted none of it, except for one Rolex watch he had (he owned four of them). The one I wanted was one we found together at a Goodwill for $5.00 when I was in High School. It was not fancy, but was one issued to the RAF during World War Two.
I got it, but they both resent me for it.

I don't envy anyone who has to go through estate stuff. We who are boomers had to go through our parents stuff, and being depression era people, they saved everything! What's interesting is that our kids- millennials, are minimalists probably because of all the stuff, and don't want anything. Obviously, that's not absolute, but it's still far too common.

My parents were very good about putting kids and grandkids names on the back of items. The day of my dad's funeral the family went through the house.
I told them that anything left was going to goodwill or the dump.
It was a lot of stuff I got rid of. The worst thing is the boxes of pictures that I haven't had the nerve to throw away yet.
