Good Evening,

Hi TF, I've never posted pictures of Robbie or anything come to think of it. Robbie is  West Highland White Terrier.

John, I sympathize, my wife has an incredible amount of clothes stuffed in closets, storage bins, a rack in the laundry. When we have to move out of the house she has a huge job ahead.

Greetings from the Southern Command. We came down to our Mississippi house to check on things and get away for a while. Drove in foggy mist from the tail end of the low pressure that dumped all the ice on Oklahoma and all the rain on us in KY.

It is supposed to be nice the rest of the time we are here .

Garry i liked the steel photos.

I want to go visit the U.P. one of these days and drive up to copper harbor just to say I did .

I notice US 41 goes from there to Miami FL. That would be a interesting trip.

I want to go to the Mackinac bridge as well. Someone invited me one year to the annual walk across, but I could not go.

Not much else to report.

Talked to my brother tonight.  He don't call every week like I wish he would and I always enjoy our conversation when he does.

He says he is scrapping his Boise Cascade model built from scratch from satellite views.

I can understand that because the last time I was there I thought it looked great but he wasn't happy with it.

My brother is too much like me,  too much of a perfectionist from our marine sergeant dad.

I really wish he wasn't.

Good morning all.  I hope everyone is well.    I am still under the Doctor's orders to take things easy.

I put the new nameplates that (arrived yesterday)  on the respective locomotives

The signals that also arrived now means I can have the layout fully signalled.

It is 'burger Friday.'     Mushroom and goat's cheese with peashoots, salad and wedges is the dish tonight.  Sorry I cannot invite anyone round.  We are on lockdown.

Take Care everyone.

Good morning.

David, burger Friday sounds good.  I'll join you over here, but about five hours later than you.

This time of year, this is what dominates all the little towns in my area.  The grain elevators are full, waiting for the railroad's hopper cars.  The harvested grain is piled in huge hills, waiting to get into the elevators and bins.  Some of these piles will be around until spring.  It's a pretty impressive site, when you consider the size of the pile compared to the road grader in the picture.

I understand this is part of the Henry Ford museum in Michigan.  I've never been there, but it looks like a neat place to visit:

I hope everyone has a good day.  For those who are ill, I hope you have a restful peaceful day.

I asked my doctor if I gave up delicious food and all alcohol, would I live longer?  He said, "No, but it will seem longer."

Good morning .

Ed .... Thanks for sharing the interesting video of River Rouge Plant .

John York1 ... The Henry Ford Museum is very interesting.

TF .... Glad you liked the photos.

Henry ..... The short video of the derailment looks scary for people on the highway.

Speaking of derailments, I recall one when GTW dropped a train from a bridge onto a Detroit freeway. It blocked all 8 lanes.

This photo shows GTW GP38's following a CV GP38. Bridge Piers are interesting. The photo was taken in the CV.

Bridge Piers are interesting.

Yeah. It looks kinda like the original structure was a two-span bridge with a much deeper depth, maybe an undershot open truss, that was replaced with the four-span girder system. Interesting.

Afternoon folks!

Taking a few minutes to get warmed back up before I finish my 5k today.  Tis cold out there.  The high for the day is 39°F.  I ran the first half of the 5k wearing my winter coat....  Just did the Fall service on my car by myself as well.  yep!  Time to check the air pressure in the tires!  Such a lot needing to be done on the Tesla ya know!!  (LOL)  They were actually down a few lbs.  The car gave me an allert for one tire.  It was only 41lbs and they should be 45lbs cold.  All of them were down about the same.  They are now all where they should be.  I did get a wonderful ad from the Chevy Dealership where they would change the oil for only $19.99 (unless I wanted decent oil in it that is...).  I once again called the Manager at the dealership and explained to him my Tesla doesn't need an "oil change"!  Told him to take my info out of his computer again.  he laughed and said, "I remember having this conversation with a few months back!" He told me he has once again taken my information out of their computer, but to let them know if GM puts it back in again!  I do like this dealership and if I was driving a car they sell would still be doing business there.  You gotta love technology!

Hope you are all having a good day and have a great "All Hallows Eve" tomorrow!

My first wife died back in 1986. She gets at least three, sometimes five or more, pieces of mail each week. Some of it from the University of Cincinnati (?), which she never attended and several offering health screenings, retirement investment seminars and the like.

I never respond to these for fear that even that activity will spring-board into yet more mailings (like picking up the phone on a spam call — then they know they have a "hot" number). Once you're on somebody's database that information gets sold and distributed everywhere.

Somehow, there's a list out there that has me tagged as a veteran serviceman. I often get mail for offers to participate in programs or products aimed at military personnel. No idea how that happened. No sence trying to correct it as, I'm afraid it would open a Pandora's Box of yet more mailings, calls and eventually spam emails.

Let's have another look at those neat, Milwaukee Skytops!

Well....  Is yah retahhhhhed yet?  That usually cause's the syndrome I think!  For me, most everyday is now on a weekend.  By the time I sit down and eat my dinner (steak and butternut squash tonight) I will have completed my 5 miles for the day.  Don't like the running wearing a winter coat, but that is what will be going on for the next 4 or 5 months I guess.

Nah...  There will still be a lot of days where I will only use a light jacket.  Today was the first time to put on the winter coat since mid March......  I can hack a light jacket if it is in the mid 40's.  Today was 38° for the high and windy with cloud cover most of the time.....  I only wore my light jacket to put air in the tires on the Tesla but a bit chilly for running.... I'll take your weather rather than mine for the next few days....  Here in the Finger Lakes tonight will be down to 26°F but a high of 46° tomorrow...  This will be the big killing frost that will likely mean that the leaves on the Maple next door which always seem to stay on the tree until everything else is bare may go whoosh!  The tree will lose all it's leaves in an hour or so of time once it starts.  Neat to see, actually.  It always seems to happen within a few days of All Hallows Eve every year.

I am sitting here at my computer waiting for the final instructions and a bit of info to finish our NMRA Division newletter.  Once I get that I can have the first draft out to the Superintendent and the Webmaster to check and ask for changes or corrections.  By Sunday I hope to have it ready to publish.

Stay safe and well out there.  There is still some nasty stuff going around, at least here.  Second wave in progress that is worse than the first.  We were not badly hit with the first wave as we were careful around these parts......

I need to start riding my bike in my cool weather gear again.  I have everything, except I can't find my gloves, but I have others and they're readily available anyway.

I'm older.  I haven't been on my road bike in years, only the mountain bike, so the cold weather clothes which are designed to reduce wind chill more than anything else may leave something to be desired.  Bt, we'll see.  With the summer traffic down, this may be the best time for biking on the roads.

Get on that bike and ride Mr B.

You won't believe how good you feel after your lungs open up after heavy breathing and the cardiovascular thing starts kicking in.

And how well you sleep that nightYes

I need to start doing that again more than just occasionally now too!

I see these guys around here with their big tires with studs in them on their bikes riding all winter.  I'm probably right in thinking that they look rarher expensive but I'm curious looking into one of those.

I'll just give it a day after a snowfall and let them young bucks pack down the trail before I take my bike outLaugh

Seriously though!  Just saying

 Eveing Diners

Flo, give the gang and i a Beer and Dirk and Robbie a dog treat.

Charile My daughters first dog she bought on her own was a Westie. Good dogs and she still misses her.

Nice weather for a change. 53 degrees outside, lots of sun and wind was only 3 MPH. Took Sue and Dirk to the park and both of them enjoyed them selfs.

Bought the kids next door some Halloween candy. There folks are not frendily but we are on speaking terms. Wife did not want to buy them any candy because there parents are not frendily. It was my idea to do it, and maybe they might become frendily. Guess who took the candy over too them? Yep, my wife who got all of the thanks? Whistling

Well my feet and Dirk's paws are better so I walked him a 1/3 rd of a mile today. Just don't want to get him a of the habit of me having to walk him around the block to do #2 again.

Later Ken and Dirk say's me likes walks daddy, woof, woof.

Hi gang!

Any more suggestions on where to move the Diner to in November? We had briefly mentioned Australia or South Africa, but if you would rather stay in North America that's fine too. Don't be shy!

On another topic, I have had some luck on eBay recently that I would like to share with you. I had stopped buying freight cars for a long time because I had more than enough rolling stock to populate my railroad, but that didn't stop me from looking. I shouldn't have looked! You can probably guess that I am into older models.

Here is what I have found recently:

- One Athearn black box Canadian Pacific 'Spans the World' brass and wood 40' box car. It is in good condition but the paint has been messed up. I hope that I can clean up the paint job without destroying the printing.

- Three older Walthers stock car kits in perfect condition, two in Canadian Pacific and and one Canadian National. The CN kit was a mistake but I will run it anyhow just to see if anyone notices.

- One old Roundhouse outside braced CP metal box car in excellent condition.

- One Globe Canadian Pacific brass and wood box car with factory painted sides, but the roof and doors are unpainted. It is in great condition.

- One Canadian Pacific converted box car decaled as a "Despatch" car. 'Despatch' is an original British spelling for 'Dispatch". It has seven windows on either side and a man door installed where the sliding door would be. There is no indication of who made it but I think that it is older. I'll have to fix up the 'Canadian Pacific Despatch' decals.

- One Atlas Trainman Canadian Pacific 40' box car kit in the 'Spans the World' livery. It looks to be nicely detailed and the printing is crisp. I'm not sure how old it is.

- A six pack of Walthers Canadian Pacific reefers new in the box. I'm going to have an icing platform on the layout and I have lots of reefers, but none with CP livery.

- Finally, an older Walthers cast metal unpainted scale test car. I have been looking for a scale test car at a reasonable price for years and I finally found one.

Part of the reason for buying all of the Canadian Pacific 'Spans the World' box cars is that they will give me different road numbers. I have lots of Athearn BB 'Spans the World' box cars, but at least nine of them have the same number. Renumbering them is obviously an option, but the print quality varies from car to car. Some are bright but others are quite faint, so matching the rest of the printing with an equally bright (or faint) renumbering decal would be tedious.

Thanks for letting me share my recent acquisitions! Show me yours!

Cheers!!

Dave

Good Evening,

TF, nice collection of DP&W engines. I have a RS 11 in green. It is an Alas model and is the smoothest running N scale engine I have. I put a TCS decoder in it.  Are you DC or DCC? If I ever decide to get out of N I'llget in touch.

Dave, if you want to part with that CN stock car drop me a line.

Time for tea and telliem

DC Charlie and thanks for the compliment.  I'm old school with blocks.   Because I'm a BlockheadLaugh

Although I have some very expensive locomotives that are hybrid DCC/DC that's supposed to have a sensor built-in and knows what track they are running on and switch to whatever Drive they sense.

Who knows,  maybe I'll switch my system someday when I'm older and bored when I finally completely understand itLaughWhistling

Morning all.  Its foggy and 27 Fahrenheit here near Pittsburgh.

I ended up ripping up a portion of the layout to put in a new baseboard since my foam was floating, and a six axle loco couldn't go around a 30" curve... the front wheel was rising in the air and then dragging the whole truck off.   Anyone have any advice?
