Chloe... Please bring me a black coffee and two slices of whole wheat toast to start my day. I woke up feeling great today.

Today will be all tile work, tomorrow should be painting. Then, two more days of painting.

I am loving seeing work that looks like completion is near.

Good morning ...

Dave ..... That certainly sounds like a scam. I wonder if anybody is gullible enough to fall for stuff like that.

My wife does a lot of eBay. It's sort of like a hobbby to her. She had her account hijacked by a scammer who listed expensive stuff on her account with instructions to buyers to send payments by Western Union. EBay's security departmnt cleared it up. We had to change passwords after that.

We had a neighbor who receieved a mysterious package to the name he uses for eBay at his address. The package was riot gear shipped from Belgium. He took the package to the Sheriff for handling.

TF ..... I like September weather in the upper Midwest where you are.

Everybody ..... Have a nice day.

Good morning

Another cool one 45°.  The media says it's cold, I say it's perfect.  Fall is my favorite time of the year.

Gonna work on the layout again today.  Work is slow and that's okay.  I'll take it when it's there but can enjoy some time off just as long as I have something to do.

I slept like a rock through the whole night and love when that happens.  If it was things that I did yesterday that causes that, I wish I knew what it was that I did so I could do that everydayLaugh

Judy's going into work on her day off because they're busy and they need her.  The GM told her boss "Judy is the example of team members we look for around here.  All the guests love here and she's always willing to help in a pinch.  We need more people like that here".  Maybe she'll get a raise out of the dealYes

Have a great day everyone

Has anyone had someone attempt to scam them recently?

I advertized some car parts for sale on the internet and I got an e-mail saying that they wanted to buy the parts. Great!! Or so I thought. The asking price was $300.00.

The buyer then proceeded to explain to me that they were going to send me a bank draft for $2400.00, and I was to deposit the $2400.00, withdraw the money, take my $300.00, and then give the rest to the "Transporter" who would pick the parts up. During the whole affair, the 'buyer' insisted on the utmost urgency in depositing the bank draft, getting the cash, and arranging for the pickup. By the way, their English language skills were severely lacking.

We have skunks visit our back yard every night, but they have never stunk as badly as this deal does!!! I called our local Police who referred my to the RCMP Fraud Squad. I will call them tomorrow.

I would love for the RCMP to set up a sting. I haven't told the 'buyer' that I have contacted the Police. It would be very rewarding to see the Police 'bust' the shippers at the door!

There are risks to that of course. The perps know where I live so there is a possibility of them taking revenge for turning them in. However, I'm willing to take that risk in order to get these guys arrested, convicted and sentenced. If we cower from these people, they win!

I see you know what you're doing stacking wall tile on a straight edge before you go down to the always uneven floor to do the floor cuts last.

I have special "threshold" tiles for the last course. These have a bullnose top and go over the wall tiles, so no matter how uneven the floor is, they will not need special cutting.

It is a pretty neat idea. I had never seen these before.

The tile jobs look great guys! You are hired!!

Speaking of grout, when we did our bathroom over a couple of years ago we were going to use tile for the shower enclosure. We looked at some beautiful tiles. However, my brother-in-law suggested that we look at faux marble shower walls and floor basin. Faux marble is basically a resin with a marble pattern in it. There are lots of colours available. There was about a 50% increase in cost over tile but the results were well worth the investment.

The whole assembly consists of five pieces - four wall panels and a molded floor panel with a built in drain and a 3" lip. The joints fit very tightly so there is only a fine bead of caulking needed. No grout. So far the caulking has held up just fine, and if it eventually needs to be replaced, that will be easy.

Ours is a walk in shower. We don't have a bath tub, but you can get the same materials in a bathtub format. For anyone who is going to replace their bathtub/shower I suggest that you consider going with a faux marble system. They are so much easier to keep clean!

Heartland:   I have had trains around since I was 2 (American Flyer that I still have).  I haven't been able to get a layout started due to kids, work, wife, and health.  Kids are grown, work is small potatoes now (single digit countdown to retirement), wife is soon out of the picture, and I hope to have the health issue taken care of this year.  I would love to model the Rio Grande in NM and Colorado.

One of the most enjoyable parts of modeling for me is learning new skills.  I get a sense of satisfaction from having something turn out even close to the prototype.  Problem is I am better at starting projects than at finishing them.  Can you have too many interests?

I am in Elk Grove, CA, just south of Sacramento.  We have been cooking the last few days. Around 109 F.  Today we got a lot of wind and a break in temperature.  Didn't even get to 100!  The air is smokey and it is "snowing" ash from the fires.  We hope the fire fighters are safe.

I learned a long time ago that the less grout you have to clean in a shower, the better.

The "grout" that I used in the kitchen ($100.00/gallon) never needs sealing or cleaning, and it has held up perfectly. It is also supposed to be mildew proof. So far, all is good.

Needless to say, we are using the same product in the bathroom.

-Kevin

The stuff the boss came home with is suppose to be all those things as well, it is a newer product I'll have to check out what it is called and we can compare notes. We bought the lastest in thinset as well and man I love that stuff. Maybe it is the same stuff.

Fingers crossed for you MLC, now how about moving down the counter a bit.Laugh I took the Google map photo tour of Puducah, how's the train museum there? Taking a Mississippi river boat cruise is something I want to do. It looks like Puducah is a stop along the way.

Well since I am a volunteer at the museum, I will say it is great!. We do have a locomotive simulator and lots of local artifacts and nice dispalys. We don't have any engines or cars or the like as we don't have the room, money or personnel to deal with it. There is a static IC steam engine on display about 2 blocks form us at the flood wall but we do not maintain it. Hopefully we will still be around, we had to let our paid person go and we can only be open saturdays because we don't have enough people to keep it open other days. we are barely squeaking by at the moment. We do open when boats come in. we usually get a lot of boat riders visiting. We are actually on the Ohio river.

My wife and I took the lower Mississippi cruise a while back.  Great trip, and the riverboat had nice cabins and great food.  We did not get as far as Paducah.

The riverboat stopped at Oak Alley, and I took this picture from the top of the levee.  This was quite a few years ago.  I think there is now a brick walkway from the levee to the house.

Okay, I may get post hog today.

We are being inundated by smoke to the point where we have resorted to laying on the couch. There is a big fire in Washington State and the smoke is pouring in. My wife is really suffering as she has asthma.

Through our wounded warrior international sledge hockey tournaments we met a real American hero several years ago. He is a highly decorated Vet that suffered horrific injuries on the battlefield in Afganistan. He lives in Washington state and is now in hospital with a short time to live as he ended up getting leukaemia. My son and he became good friends even though there was quite an age difference between the two.

If the borders had been open my kid would have been down to Seattle to visit him, but alas that was not to happen. This guy loved Lays ketchup flavoured potato chips that apparently are only available in Canada. He asked my son to bring him some every time we went down to help at the tournaments.

So yesterday he jokingly asked if we could just mail him a bag of ketchup flavoured chips down to him as his last dying wish. So we boxed up a few bags and mailed them. Works out to about $13.00 a bag, but it was the least we could do for such a fine human being.

I hope he gets to enjoy them.

I have started the bathroom tile. My wife picked out 3 by 6 "subway" tiles, so that it is.

I love this new laser level tool!
