Another beautiful one.
A busy day yesterday. I finished my work in the building and went out to my buddy Erv's for the rest of the day. We had kind of a car care seminar type of day. His carburetor in the 442 has been acting up so we pulled it. Erv took it apart and cleaned it up with a new carburetor kit. Works good now. I changed my oil, washed and waxed my car. It may have not needed it yet but I change the oil every year since it was rebuilt. Can't hurt.
Jimmy, sorry about your cat. 18 years is a good run but it still hurts. Our pets are members of the family. Sorry about your cat too Ed. Having no closure makes it even harder.
Ironically Erv was telling me yesterday about when his cat came home after missing for 3 days. The cat had puncture wounds on his side and puss sacks that actually stunk. Of course he brought her to the vet. The vet confirmed what they thought, the cat was picked up by a bird of prey and luckily dropped.
The vet said these bird's Talons are filthy and full of disease. The cat's infection was really bad and in its bloodstream so putting her down was a consideration.
Erv's son was visiting. Cory is a sandblaster painter of a major bridge renovation company. He paid the $700 vet bill. It took some time but the cat was okay. This had happened years ago, the story came up because I was rinsing my soap buckets over the cats resting place
Ray, Glad to here you came out of the dehydration problem okay. Serious stuff. I have noticed I do not have a thirst as much anymore as I am getting older. I have had dehydration issues where my arms and legs are so sore I can barely get up. Once you have it, it's too late. It takes a while to get back. Since I've had a problem with it I force myself to drink when I don't want to. I actually buy Pedialyte by the case now and drink a couple of those a week.
My brother got his first Model Railroader issue of his one year gift subscription. He had no idea where it came from and thought the eBay seller he bought five box cars from sent it to him as a Thank you. I set him straight. He is happy.
Well, I haven't even decided what I'm going to do today yet. I'm sure I'll come up with something.

Good evening from the West. It is a gorgeous night and we have been sitting out enjoying every moment of it. Fall is in the air though.
Ray, electrolyte issues can be serious. Professional athletes have experts to monitor them, we street-level stars, not so lucky. I usually load up on water before I start as I drink coffee before as well and coffee dehydrates. Do you have a BP monitor? If I have really gone at it I will put on the BP monitor afterwards as it will show an irregular heartbeat if my electrolytes are low. A quick top-up and we are back to normal. People not in shape will have irregular heartbeats show up constantly throughout the day, but unless they stay tied to a monitor they never know about it. I have accompanied a few to the hospital over the years, especially after an afternoon of crazy mountain biking. Slurred speech is a giveaway for me. A quick plug into an IV and we go out for a big steak and lobster dinner afterwards. There are lots of good videos on the subject. It is always good for us old geezers to do a BP check before a workout and again afterwards. How fast your BP and HR returns to normal is important.
Ed, sorry to hear about your cat as well. We really have to watch our young pups when we have them as the Eagles and owls are plentiful as are the coyotes. The eagle's circle overhead just waiting for an opportunity to grab a pup.
Still not dark here so I will go and enjoy the last of the day on the patio.

Been an, uh, "Interestin'" couple of days for me here in the Finger Lakes. Yep! Very interesting. Note I didn't say nice or fun, but very interesting.....
Yesterday I had my very first ride in an ambulance! Yep, I was the honored passenger, and then spent a couple hours in the GGH Emergency Room. I was very aftraid I had a heart attack................ The docs decided that I didn't have one of those but something else that could have done me in if I hadn't kept a straight head and used my Boy scout Training well. Huh? OK I'll start from the beginning.
Friday morning I went out for my first run of the day (1.6 miles). Did it in good time, then came back in the house, got distracted for a while (meaning didn't have anything to drink), and then had lunch. After lunch I sat down to do some page layout here at my computer and suddenly the room started spining around and I was breathing very quickly and feeling faint. I stood up and took a few steps and almost fainted. Went and drank a glass of water and sat back down at the computer. Started to feel even worse and considered calling 911. Decided to head outside to the porch where someone could find me if I passed out. (That may have saved my life...) Shakily called 911 and was told to hang in there. They are coming to get me. 10 minutes later 6 cars, a Firetruck, and a bunch of Volunteers pulled up and started to help me. The ambulance got there a few minutes after that. Seems both our local ambulances were on other calls so this one was from a neighboring town.
They started an IV as soon as I was loaded in the ambulance and proceeded to the Hospital. In the Emergncy room I was just awake and was having trouble making any sense to their questions. But... A few minutes later I started to feel better. The ER doc looked at the info they were getting and told me I might have had a heart attack but.... Since I was improving quickly he said he thinks it was dehydration. Seems I was throwing a series of 5 or 6 PVCs and then one regular heartbeat over and over. That subsided to more regular beats than bad ones so an hour and half later when they took to a regular room I actually was feeling pretty normal except the feeling I had been run over by a truck!
They decided to keep me overnight for observation and tests. Noon today I was informed that all my vitals were great and I did not have a heart attack. Whew!!!! The Doc did tell me that my losing weight and my excersizing played a portion of a good outcome with this.
Basically I have no restrictions for excersizing except to start light for a few days and...... "CARRY A WATER BOTTLE with me and use it!" He didn't like that I start the day with a Pot (4 cupper) of coffee and than go for a hard run. LOL
Nice to be among the living... Today makes the 33rd. aniversary of my wife passing from leukemia.... Would hate to have my kids have something else to rue on this day too.
BATMANRay, glad to hear things went well for you and your lady friend with the family. How did she like the layout?
Actually we didn't get time to get down to the layout on Thursday, but promise to show it to her next time she come down this way.

Good day all it is high noon on the West Coast and another stunning day with temps to 30c expected. I see a dip in the pool in my future.
I posted a pic earlier of two Orca to celebrate the Canucks dispatching the Blues in game two yesterday. The Rum was flowing and I polished off a 1000calorie bowel of butter-soaked popcorn last night after we ate the Mexican feast the boss made. So I did a 30 km 1500 calorie ride this morning to pay my debt.
Ken, I use to be at war with the moles and the only trap that ever worked was one called "The Black Hole". It really works well. I have half a dozen of them. I have made peace with our moles and stopped trapping them though as it is not in my nature to want to kill things that were not really doing anything other than living their lives.
I chuckled when you said you went out with a Barbie. I went out with a girl for eight years that was stunning in every way and enjoyed doing the same somewhat extreme adventures. Guys would not leave her alone and she really grew tired of the constant harassment. She was a financial disaster and I could not marry her for that reason alone.
Dave congrats on your anniversary. I was nine days short of my 40th Birthday when I got married as it took me that long to find the right women. The reality is my wife and I were good friends for fourteen years before we started going out. Go figure. I bought the big rock for her finger and I got the platinum/ gold band and after a couple of weeks, they both went in the drawer and have been there for 22 years. Both our jobs made wearing them a bad idea and I knew that would happen going in, it is what it is but there is a new car sitting in the drawer.
Herrinchoker, the whole dog breeding, showing, training thing is of no interest to me but I give my wife all the support I can. Between her Veterinary knowledge and breeding knowledge and success, I can do nothing but. Being married to her has been quite the journey in so many ways.
I hope your heart issues get resolved, my Mom field trained dogs for years and had a quintuple bypass and was right back at it in short order after her surgery.
I hope brother Elias is safe. His Abbey is closed to the public due to the virus but there is no word on what may be going on. Communal living is not the best idea in a pandemic.
Jimmy, sorry to hear about your cat. We are still waiting for my old dog to check out but he is still hanging in there.
Car racing other than rally never did much for me. They are a talented bunch for sure but I like the random hazards that rally driving offers. I got to do time on the police pursuit track and it is fun for sure, but for me, the novelty wears off once the training goals were met.
Well, time for some yard work and then a jump in the pool.

I share your sorrow on the loss of your cat, Jimmy. Our cat Otis disappeared back on July 21 without a trace. I suspect a fox or coyote got him. I've searched all around but find no trace of him
The restoration of the East Broad Top is the best RR news I've heard in a long time. I used to be a frequent visitor and I'll be glad to go again.

Hey all. Hope you are all well, Been a rough week for me. One of my cats passed away, sure she was 18 but it still hurts to lose her.
I've been plugging away at some model railroading as well.
Today will have an interesting NASCAR race- first time for the stock cars on the Daytona International Speedway Road course, so it'll be interesting to see if the drivers will be able to tame the beast.
I bring some good news in regards to the tourist train world. The East Broad Top Railroad ran their first official passenger trains in NINE years this weekend, with brass on the first. The first train was pulled by the M1 Brill railcar, towing office car 20....with the brass being the whole Kovalchick family onboard. It'll be a journey for the railroad to return back to pre 2011 condition, but the board has shown the initiative and right direction to move the railroad. Here's to hoping for a train to Saltillo one day.

Congrats on 39 years to you and the wife Dave! Judy and I are at 26. Our anniversary is on Valentine's Day. I gave her a one carat pebble on the top of the Stratosphere so many years ago. I planned it that way. I know me, it's pretty hard to forget an anniversary on Valentine's Day and ya kill two birds with one stone
Have some work to do today. I opted to work Saturday as I was too busy with train stuff last week. I like working on a Saturday, it doesn't feel as much like work because it's a Saturday, if that makes any sense.
Thinking about going to Bush Lake for a BBQ this evening if Judy's not too tired from work. Steaks, steak recipe grilling beans and asparagus sounds good

There used to be smoke bombs that came in packs of 6/8--The mole run was exposed, the device was shoved in--lit--the opening covered over with a flat rock, board, etc., and left to burn. they seemed to work, moles left/died, never came back.

Back in the 60s, a pointer named GuardRail, had some of his sperm frozen. Some was used last year, the gyp threw 5 pups that were almost exact copies of GuardRail. Because he was such an exceptional dog, his owner had a quantity of his sperm frozen in 67, and is dolled out for big bucks today.
Speaking of dogs, Dame Agatha is just over 11 months old now. I will have her ready for duck season. She is steady to shot, and will deliver to hand, My real challange is my heart is starting to plug up, and if it cannot be corrected with drugs, I will be looking at a multiple part by-pass. I just spent five days in two different hospitals having scans done, two done from the arteries in my left and right groin, and one done this morning through the artery in my right arm. Consensus among the chin scratchers is the stents that I already have need to be replaced,( and we did not do this while we were there today because----?) so we are going to wait and try cleaning everything out with drugs before we do a multiple bypass??
I did discover that there is now a sonogram device used to locate veins, that takes all the guess work out of having a stick for an IV. Because I can be a bad stick at times I really appreciated this.
Trains are running (for me) exceptionally well, most of the time they all come back to the starting point.
Any word from/about, Brother Elias?

Dianne and I are celebrating our 39th anniversary today! It has actually been 44 years since we met at Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario.
Cole and Kaitlin are making pork tenderloin crusted with maple syrup and parmesan, and grilled asparagus for dinner!
The cottage has been great! We are half way through our vacation. I'll post more when we get back home.

Finally got the rest of the backyard cut. Some of the grass / weeds where 15" tall. Like I posted last week after I broke my rib my SIL only cut it onces in 6 weeks so it was a mess!

Celebrated 20 years with the ol' ball and chain last week, rented kayaks and went down the Namekagan river! Kayaks are fun. For younger people. Ha! Actually enjoyed it but getting in and out was an effort in not embarrassing myself. Highly recommend and will be doing that again!!

Sounds like you had a Tuff Wally World Experience today Chip. I feel for ya, I hate those. Sounds like a few of you are having same experiences.
We boycotted the Wally World closest to our place because it's so nasty. East Bloomington isn't as nice as West Bloomington so I never go there anymore.
We purposely drive out of our way across the river. We got a new one down in Burnsville last year, we call it Freeway Wallmart. Even now-a-days if we go there early in the morning we have the whole store to our selves.
They say they're going to switch all the Walmarts up here to self checkout. We also just got a great big Aldi up here with 10 ft shopping isles. All of their prices comprable and some lower than Walmart. Aldi's cashiers must have went through some kind of training program because they check you out so fast it makes your head spin.
If Walmart goes to all self-checkout I'm going to start going to Aldi only. I refuse to do self checkout when I'm giving profits to a store. Especially when they're cutting people's jobs who.need them just to turn a bigger profit.

Almost paniced. The basketed Ferrarri ran out of batteries in the turn coming out of the bread isle. Just went "clunk" and stopped dead. No juice. Stranded.
Luckily a Walmart employee came to my rescue and found me a replacement. It was faster, quieter, and more responsive in the turns. A Lambourgini, no doubt.
