Short workday on the RRRR. Turns out, putting big old honking bars on all the doors and windows makes the jail look a lot less like a modern storage shed.
Made my weekly trip to Cottonwood, whih includes Walmart. Then came home and made up for missing my naps this week all at once.
I don't know if I want a beer or coffee.

I'm enjoying happy hour after a long day.
Walked two miles, had an hour men's meeting with breakfast, mowed the lawn, watched two Perry Mason reruns, took a nap, ... It's good I'm retired or I'd be tired. The ice-cold beer tastes good.

Good afternoon, we had a day-long squall move through here with lots of rain and wind but it was really warm.
Today is game day.!
This seals name is Blue and I hear he is from St. Louis.
Planning on having some rum and Pepsi(s) a huge bowl of butter-soaked popcorn while watching. The wife asked what I wanted for my game day meal and I said either roast lamb or steak. She came home with these monster rib steaks. I did some quick calculating and went and burned 1200 calories off on the bike just now so I am good to go.
Rob, hope you can have an easier time of it, staying well-rested will certainly help.
Dave, loved the old steam loco photos, I could look at those all day long.
The kid and his girlfriend were shacked up in the back bedroom all night till 1400hrs so I did not go work on the layout as planned. It was their one-year anniversary of going out. Oh to be that young again.
Hope Lion is okay, maybe a phone call to Assumption Abbey is in order. I would just ask for the head of the largest indoor subway commission, that might get us through.
Time to hit the shower, get my first Rum and watch the trains go roundy while I wait for game time.

The selling of older trains has been going well and gradually we are building the new collection. Have not started the new layout quite yet, but the room for it has been made.
I still get too tired to do much and need to lay down and take naps. On the bright side, the last doc said the MRI showed a decent outcome from all the treatments, so can't complain.

I recall seeing pictures of Mexican diesels that were very unique. I think their locomotive shops made them from parts of older, retired locomotives. Also, I remember seeing a photo of EMD FT's running in Mexico long after US roads retred FT's.

Been hot here the past couple of days. Actually had a heat warning as it was 91F today with a humidex of 97. Too hot for my taste. Mind you I thought I knew what hot was until I went to Borneo. That was back in 2001 and I doubt I could manage that heat now.
Nothing new here except we did get a new critter in our back yard. The woodchuck that lives in the yard behind us paid us a visit yesterday and ate some seeds under the bird feeder. Guess it wasn't worth the trip as he hasn't been back. I found the space in the fence where he got in and will have to repair it. May not do the new fence until next year.
Well the new brass loco has finally left Toronto and is expected here Tuesday. That is my excitement.
I've been very busy here as my wife pulled a muscle in her back and has been laid up for the past few days. She saw a physio yesterday but only marginal improvement. She used to have a great one a few years ago but she only does university stuff now.
Sure wish Johnboy would check in.

Our local Wally World converts its parking lot to a drive-in, I think once a week. I haven't gone because it's a half hour each way, and that is too big a commitment to sit in a Wally World parking lot.

When I drove through West Virginia last month I was in Bluefield, where this massive concrete coaling tower was still standing.
This was a thrill, I had never seen one before.

There is still a drive-in here about 15km away. It has been popular during the pandemic. The last time I was at a Drive-in was around 1980 when I owned that van. I think the movie was Up Periscope.

I am a happy camper today as the Canucks showed up last night and squeaked by the Blues. Game 6 tomorrow.
Went for an eye exam today and the Doc said my eyes were in excellent health with no signs of any deterioration. I asked her if fitness helped eye health and she said, "are you kidding? Big time". She then gave me a pamphlet on it as she said, "it's obvious you keep you keep good care of yourself". I liked her!

Started my jail today. I made it of styrene because it just wasn't going to be adobe. I roughed it to look like wood, and put it together.
It looks like a 20 x20 storage shed on modern day house with a horse.
I'm hopng I can get it back to the 1890's by the time I'm finished. Seriously.

I wondered about the economics, and then figured it was mostly a comment on the sad state of the Mexican railway system. Unless the freight was time critical, perhaps fruits or vegetables, I'm sure the more cost-effective method would have been rail all the way, rather than adding a ferry trip.
hon30critter Herons are fairly common here but it is unusual to get to within 40' of them. If I had had the camera ready a few minutes before this, I might have been able to get a video of the heron flying straight at us. It was a neat sight to see. Dave

We just had a Heron Moment this morning. I did see one flying straight at us. He veered off and perched on top of a singular dead tree relic, only about 60 feet away. Probably just waiting for the tide to create the right depth for fishing in the marsh.

Good morning. It's cool, 68°, and clear. A perfect morning for my trail walk. We don't get many of these days during the summer, so I need to get outside and enjoy it.
