GMTRacing Can't imagine doing that many 2 x 4 sheets.
They didn't tape, like todays drywall, watch the video. The original gypsum board was a little different than todays drywall. It was heavier. Drywall is made using gypsum plaster.
Grandpa use to call it sheetrock.
TOP again?
Breakfast is served!

Good morning. I'll have bacon, eggs, and black coffee. Same everyday.
A storm came through last night, and this morning it is cold and windy. It was a little difficult walking on the trail against the north wind. Some big trees didn't make it last night.
TF, you mentioned Leech Lake. There's a lake right south of there called Ten Mile Lake. My daughter got married on the shore of that lake. We stayed at a hotel on Leech Lake called Chase on the Lake. It was a nice place. I think I remember drinking quite a bit of beer that night.
Ken, I know what you and Dirk mean. Our dog loves having us both here all day. It will kill her when we finally go on a trip again.
Brent, I had a huge container of coins a while back. I didn't roll them -- I was too lazy. I hauled them all down to the bank and they dumped them into their machine. It took the machine about 30 seconds for what would have take me hours. Thanks for the British Columbia hospitality this month.
Kevin, lots of work in your photos. I'm happy this is going on at your house and not mine. The best part is that you will have a great new place when you're all done.
Garry, you mentioned that there is a MR Facebook page. I hope I'm not missing too much there; I don't have Facebook. I may have to use my wife's account and take a look at it.
JR, I really like pictures of the layout. That's a neat idea of hiding the support beam with a building surrounding it.
Ed, that description of scrapple reminds me of some of the things my mother used to do. It was probably better I was outside playing while she was cooking.
Bear, It's probably cooling off there by now. I'm glad our long winter is over, although we're not getting out to enjoy spring yet.
I cut the grass yesterday, so there is not much going on today. Same old same old.
Hope everyone has a good day.
York1 John
I asked my doctor if I gave up delicious food and all alcohol, would I live longer? He said, "No, but it will seem longer."
You are correct Mike. I didn't sit all the way through the presentation. I got uncomfortable when I noticed the DIY guys work looked a lot like mine. I only used screws though. I rarely use nails at all any more.

GMTRacing TF We never had a problem with the mess and dust. Workmen leaving debris all over inside and out when they were "finished", yes. I always expected "broom clean" and sometimes had to say something.

Hi J.R.
We always conducted business in a professional manner. We installed Polly Shields with zippers on doorways to keep the dust down. We kept materials organized and neatly stacked and always cleaned up and swept every evening when we were done.
Still no matter what we did, construction is invasive and disrupts people's homes, it's just the nature of the business. The lady of the house generally burnt out before the Mr. Once in a while there were down-to-earth people that rolled with it well. I loved working for those people but it was few and far between. There usually was some point along the way where someone became somewhat agitated.
What was the worst was when they didn't even say anything but you could just sense it and feel it building
TF
TF Sounds like you were exceptional. The constructor who finally fixed our house after the fire and all the mess was a real craftsman and did a fabulous job. The low point was before we found him we had to call the building inspectors on our own job.

Hi John.
Sounds like you had a memorable evening at your daughter's wedding up there. Memories are the best.
I haven't been up to that area for probably 20 years. That was a grouse hunting trip and they were on the upcycle so it was a really good time. We used to go to Leech Lake quite frequently when I was a kid.
Speaking of memories, I remember my parents going all over the state looking to buy a resort. It was fun because we made a fishing trip out of it. Who could ever forget a town named Hackensack. I remember chuckling when I first heard it. I do believe they did look at a resort on Ten Mile Lake as it rings a bell. That sure was a lot of years ago.
Good cloudy morning from the Eastern shore of the Pacific Rim.
The kids girlfriend stayed over last night and so my start to the day is delayed as they have set up shop in the guest room which is where my bike and layout are.

John, I use to be able to do that as well, however, I was in two of my banks one morning last week and spent about an hour chit chatting in the managers office as he didn't have much going on. He told me most banks have rid themselves of the coin counter as they were expensive to maintain and took up a lot of room. He also said it never got used as people just don't use money any more. The bank did give me all the paper rollers I needed though. I find myself using Tap for everything now, even a cuppa at Tims. We have had Tap in Canada for years now.
I have always been happy with contractors we have hired but then again I really do my homework and price takes second over who it is I hire. Some of our friends and family have had very bad experiences hiring Mr. cheapo. I also never hire friends or family to do work for me. My policy is, never hire someone you aren't prepared to sue if need be.
Well best go have a third cup of coffee as I wait for those deadbeat children to get up. They are the hardest working kids I know so I don't really mind waiting. It has only been four days since University finnished and I got to see first hand how many hours they put in. They can take as long as they want to decompress.
Til later.
All the best to all.
Brent

For the rehearsal, we were waiting for the pastor. He had never been to that lake. Finally I called him to find out if he was coming, and he said he was at Ten Mile Lake. I finally found out that he was at another lake named Ten Mile Lake three hours away.

Actually, I take the blame. I just told him Ten Mile Lake, not which one. He put Ten Mile Lake in his phone, and it directed him to the wrong one.
It all worked out, he was funny about it, and we had a great time.
All's well that ends well. I'm sure the preacher being late just gave you all more time to catch up with family that you had'nt seen for a while

Just did 20 hard kms on the bike and ran a quick mile. It really hurts to run when you are full of Arthritis but I enjoyed it regardless. My BP was 104/62 HR49 before the ride and I feel like a gazillion $$$$$ right now. Not bad for an old man.

It goes without saying a fire is never good! What happened J.R.?
I know from experience those can be a little bit tricky. Sometimes you have to get the inspector involved before the permit to see what needs to be done to bring everything back up to code so everything is safe. And dealing with the insurance company through it all sounds like a whole nother can of worms!
I bet that wasn't too pleasant of an experience J.R.

I can accept that John. I can't take complete credit as I don't think I'm the inventor of the idea though
I have never wanted to leave the lake and go home when I'm there. I think that's why my parents bought the resort so many years ago and Good Lord I miss it!
TF Short version is my sons' laptop went up in flames, set the curtains off and away we went. I am still on a nondisclosure with the insurance company and their conractor but the building department was involved from the first which worked out ok at the end. Three years in all to fix the house. J.R.
Good evening all.
Zoe - How about a slice of apple pie, with a couple scoops of ice cream, and a coke please. Thanks.
Weather - Warm and breezy today, but supposed to get wet and cooler later.
W*^k - Informed the boss of what I need to have occur for my return, he said he doesn't feel that can happen. So... I am contacting the unemployment office and have updated my resumè on Indeed.
Stinks, as I really did enjoy that j*b. Told the boss that too.
But I'm not going to needlessly endanger my health and well being over something as dumb as money. Money is only worth the paper it's printed on, and paper is worthless if we are not alive to use it.
Trains - Did some painting of a hopper car for a project today, it needs another coat (or two) before decals can be applied. Grey primer under gloss black. And the gloss black after two coats (airbrushed) while has a very high gloss, isn't quite "black" yet. Hoping another coat does the trick.
Any recommendation for what stripper to use with Roundhouse kit cars? Those ones will be next, and Isopropyl, while it did some, isn't really working out well. (Unless I need to leave it submerged in it longer? I thought ~2&1/2 hours would suffice...)
I somehow ended up with a Fox Valley GP60, with installed DCC & Sound, for less than the price of most units that are DCC ready... Sometimes eBay can be dangerous... I bid just before I lost the employment... and no one else did...
Hope all are well, and all enjoy the day!

A tough one to go through J.R. I'm happy no one got hurt and you were finally able to get things resolved. I'm sure you were glad when that long haul was over.

Track fiddlerI have never wanted to leave the lake and go home
Me too. I spent my Summers in my youth at my Aunt and Uncles at Kaslo on Kootenay lake. The had an 18' ski boat and a 26' used for fishing. I had full use of both boats from about age 13 and would spend all day fishing.
Ricky, I had a great job and was by myself all the time. I would often roll into work at the airport and get in my work truck without going in the office. I would talk to the boss throughout the day but would go for weeks without seeing him in person. I really enjoyed the solitude. I would go all over greater Vancouver to railyards, the docks and the airport, anything to do with logistics. There are lots of Government jobs where people work alone and away from the germy and irritating population. I have a great indexed pension and in my last ten years I got 8 weeks vacation and 15 days sickleave per year that accumulated from year to year. I rarely ever took a sick day and had almost three years of sick time in the bank when I had to go on sick leave just before I retired. There are a lot of interesting government jobs, they don't all just push paper.
I got to go on many navel ships that were visiting Vancouver as well as many airplanes that belonged to the leaders of countries. I think I went aboard Airforce one three times over the years to help them out with logistal issues that came up while they were visiting.
Airports are a great place to work if you like to be on your own, almost 30,000 people work at Vancouver International, lots of them out on the airport driving around on their own takin care of business.
Howdy ....
JR ..... I recall your having the fire, and I remember the photos you had been posting before it. You had a beautiful layout . Do you still have old photos of it? The layout you are currently building looks like it will be fantastic.

Rick, have you tried SUPER CLEAN? I've found this stuff to be an excellent remover for painted plastic models. Works on most, but not all types of paint.
Strain it and store it in another jug for re-use. When it has finally reached the end of its usefulness for stripping paint you can still strain it and use it for non-critical cleaning chores rather than dumping it down the drain.
Good Luck, Ed

I was just going to unbox the new FP7s and the wife wanted to go for a walk. Not being one to turn down a little execise I obliged. It was so quiet and eerie not a soul to be seen. We got into the forest about a KM and there is this meadow that is just beautiful, it was full of people just basking in the sun, most had dogs. After not seeing a soul, coming upon all these people all of a sudden felt strange. You see this meadow a lot in TV shows like "Once UponA Time" as it is quite pretty. The movie crews have to haul all the equipment in to shoot there as there is no road access.
Spent a good three hours working on this Estate I am looking after, Lawyer, real estate agent and government, all wonderful people but I would rather be doing other things.
Think I will go unwrap the layout before the phone rings again.
