drciesel I hope you don't get banned but stuff happens.  You have to be really bad to be thrown out completely.

Facebook isn't much better than Twitter when it comes to politics.  Instagram, I don't use much but my wife does and she gets weird requests from weirdos to follow her.  That said, Facebook is showing me "People I might know" that are not friends of anyone I know.

Second funny of the day.  A couple years ago there was a commercial, where they put Jeff Gordon in makeup, had him test drive a new car with the salesman in the car, and drive like a mad man.  That was the only video I ever saw until today but there was a follow up.  They found someone who called it fake on twitter and pranked him.

Doesn't work with the video icon.    https://1funny.com/pepsi-max-test-drive-2/

There needs to be a portal where model railroaders can share accurate information about the Coronavirus threat.  Model Railroader would do a service to these individuals and the model railroad community by permitting such discourse.  Apparently they wish not to do that.

If there needs to be a portal where model railroaders can share accurate information about the virus threat, maybe some other site can provide that.

Most of us come to this thread to discuss railroading and other subjects in a lighter manner.

I probably found it at a Goodwill somewhere and thought... Hey, this will make a good photo prop someday.

someone told a woman maybe she should just watch As The World Turns.

Since I have not been working, I have been watching The Young And The Restless everyday. I started watching that show 35+ years ago when I was in Middle School. It amazes me how well written these shows are, that you can miss six months, but in a week you feel all caught up again, but I feel like if I miss tomorrow's episode I will miss everything. That is simply amazing.

They make a 60 minute episode of all new material every day, no reruns, no days off.

If Wisconsin is closed down, that means Genoa City is closed... What will become of Summer Newman's plan to take the CEO position of Newman Enterprises away from Victoria and merge with Jabot?

drciesel
I’ll probably get banned for this post because it did not focus on why my order from MBKlein was a couple days late.

That sounds like a dig at me, but I don't understand why. This is a model train forum, and buying model trains, and what effects these purchases, has been subject matter here since I have been around.

BigDaddy
this forum might be the only social interaction some of us have, outside our spouse.

This forum IS the only social media I have. I don't do facebook, or any other forums online. You guys are it for me.

This forum means a lot to me. I honestly appreciate the work the administrators do to keep it out of the swamp. I don't want politcal discussion, I want to talk about toy trains. I don't want too much reality, I like my toy trains.

My only other social interactions are with my wargaming group on Fridays, my Board Gaming club on Wednesdays, and wargame conventions 3-4 times a year. Covid-19 has ended all of these.

So, right now, this forum is my only social interaction at all.

Covid-19 is sucking all the oxygen out of the room right now, so it is bound to creep in here (and I did that myself too), but lets keep the rest of it light and fun.

Good evening all.

Chloe - A big RBF please. Thanks.

Steve-O - You have to admit, your commute just got a whole lot easier! Laugh Thanks for still hitting the old grindstone for us.

Ken - Seems Dirk dislikes the vacuum... My dog Dozer runs from it... Small blessings. Wink

Ulrich - Sorry that the move is again delayed. For lack of a better term, that stinks.

Trains - Got caught by a local freight today. (No complaints from me. I like getting stopped by trains.) Making progress on the next rail car kit, with a few changes made. (Older Accurail kit, with the push pin holders for couplers and trucks. That is being changed during assembly to screws.)

Virus - A "Stay at home" order went into effect for my county this evening at 8pm local time. (2 hours ago) However, "essential" trips are allowed, so you can still go grocery shopping, get meds from the pharmacy, and you are allowed to be outdoors for exercise, like hiking, biking, etc... That means that literally nothing has changed for me, as my j*b is still "essential" and therefore, nothing is different for me.

Hope all are well, and all enjoy the night!

Good Evening,

I too only have this forum for interaction right now.

Our Robbie hates the vacuum. He attacks it and I don't mean gently. We can't even say the word 'vacuum' or vac or spell it otherwise he runs to the closet where it is stored so he can get it as soon as it comes out. We have to keep him shut up in a bedroom as we are afraid he might get hurt by the powerhead. Other westies we've had couldn't care less.

Another quiet evening. My wife isn't feeling good tonight. No, it isn't anything that could be due to the virus. We know what it is as it has happened a couple of times before in the past few years. I'll just say that stress is a factor.

I will be making a trip out tomorrow. We bought a couple of items at a local bookstore. We just ordered it online and then phone them when we are outside their door and they will bring it out to our car. Great service.

I expect I'll be listening to music on my tablet tonight before bed. I find it helps me to get to sleep. I was listening to one of my favourite songs the other night,  Love Letters by Ketty Lester. A great hit from 1963. I had the 45 but sold it as I no longer have a turntable.

Think I'll spend some time looking at listing on Hemmings. I must admit one of my favourite cars is a '57 Buick with the 3 piece rear window. That and '55 T-Birds, Austin Healeys, Studebaker Hawks(pre-'62). My list does change. I also like wooden boats, power and sail. Right now I'd settle for a nice brass CPR Jubilee. That will have to wait too.

Good night all,

CN Charlie

Henry,

When I was fishing for shark and tuna I would anchor, leaving when I caught a fish. Groundfishing I would leave at 20:00 on Fri. night, steam until sunrise Sat.  morning, and fish all day Sat., Sat. night, Sunday+night, Monday, haul back the last time at sunset, steam back to Boothbay and unload my catch Tue. Morning. Sleep most of Wed., pull maintenance, bunker up, re-stock grub on Thurs., and leave again Fri. nite. I had an auto-pilot, alarm on the radar set at 6 miles, and an alarm on my side scan sonar that would sound if I was getting near hard bottom. The second  dog was the worst for staying awake for me. I had full hydraulics on the deck, and in the wheelhouse, so fishing alone wasn't difficult. I brought the net up on a reel, eliminated having to use quarter ropes, and lazy lines. I set the net in, and hauled back, under power, going fair wind both times. The pilot was a big help at that time. I would set the gear in around 50F, and tow offshore to about 140-150 F, and then head back to 40-50 F. before returning. I carried 600F. of  3/8 gal. on the wench drums, and used a 76/96 ground fish net made by Ken Gray, 4 1/2 mesh on the bosoms, lengthner, and 5 1/8 on the cod end.

If a boat got within six miles of me I would go on Ch.16, give my vessel name, and loran position, asking for a response from the vessel headed------, distance from my location, please identify. Most would respond. The ones that didn't we figured were involved in the recreatonal drug industry especially if they were high speed.

Commercial shipping was the worst if you were around the Boston Lanes, or the Ambrose Lanes headed into/out of New York.

herrinchoker,

I find the details of your fishing career to be very interesting. I'm always curious to learn the details of how things are actually done, whether it be running a steam engine or operating a fishing boat solo. I might not understand all the terminology but it is interesting none the less.

Thanks for the insight!

Covid 19. New Zealand goes into Level 4 lockdown at midnight tonight, for at least 4 weeks, unless you are part of an essential service, you must stay at home, (there are exceptions, with restrictions in place, for getting food or medicine).
I find it ironic that having had less than 20 days off in the last six months, that suddenly I’m not essential!!LaughLaugh

SoapBox If you are inclined to treat the current crisis as a joke and or a conspiracy, I would strongly suggest that all the Forum Members and fellow Diners take this situation seriously, and if not concerned about yourself, spare a thought for those in the medical frontline or those keeping the supply chain going, they are UNABLE to hunker down and sit this out!! SoapBox

And wearing it well indeed! I also note that you are doing your share to keep the dance floor clean, no doubt so that you can dance with the beautiful young ladies in the background!

Dave, what the photo is unclear of showing, is that the Bear has two left feet, in fact the broom was probably supporting me!! Besides I was bought up to respect women and treading on their feet, kicking and or ankle tapping them is a definite black mark, so I have kept well clear of dance floors.!! LaughLaugh
I’ve never had a reason to own a suit, in fact have only worn a hired one for my brothers and my wedding. I always thought though that if I did require permanent formal attire, I would have bought a kilt and sporran. (I rather think that the Police would take a dim view if I had a sgian-dubh stuffed in my sock, though).

Ray, homemade butter, after all these years the thought still makes my stomach cringe!! Ick! While I was bought up on a sheep and beef farm, we had a house cow, so things like fresh thick cream on my porridge of a cold morning were great! However, my Mum decided, for the same reason as your Father, to make her own butter. It was revolting, and even made her baking, YUCK as well. The biscuit (cookie) tins stopped getting raided. With hindsight, I think it must have taken my Dad a fair amount of tact to get her to stop!!

Ken I worked in retail, I get your point

Ulrich don't stay away too long.

We talk about alot more than model railroading.  War gaming, planes, cars, work, romance, marriage.  In another thread about the virus someone announced they were just diagnosed with cancer.  We have had more than our share of that in this forum.

My wife is one of those that is extremely stressed out by all this.  She is more of an extrovert than I am and is missing contact with other people.  If she knew how much our IRA dropped she would really be stressed.

Good Morning All,

No time to catch up last nights posts - hopefully later. Just a to go please Zoe. Did get somewhere with the walls for the power house last night. What do you think? this is spray bomb white with paint marker to colour the walls. I finally found a marker that didn't use alcohol as a carrier and that was better.

Good morning, everyone.

As far as social interaction, I get as much as I want here on the MR forum.  I dealt with people 12-14 hours per day, often seven days a week, for 45 years.  Now retired, I really don't want any more than this.

Interesting post, herrinchoker.  It's neat to read terminology like that, even if I didn't get some of it.  I assumed the F was feet, but then Ed said fathoms, and that sounded correct?

Ulrich, please don't take what someone here said to stay away.  You bring a unique perspective to the forum coming from Germany.

Charlie, Ken, and TF, dogs are amazing.  Our dog is deaf, but we have hand signals we use with her.  Often, it's just a look in our eyes or some body language, and she is ready to act.  Amazing human - animal interaction.

Bear, enjoy your forced days off!  I'm getting tired of being house-bound.

JR, the powerhouse walls look good.  Looks like lots of work.

Henry, it's best to not look at your IRA values at times like this.  Things are depressing enough as it is.

Another day of getting on my wife's nerves.

Good Afternoon,

TF, Robbie is a West Highland White Terrier. Lots of pics on the net of that breed. They are the dog that is on the cover of the Cesar dog food containers. A small but sturdy dog. He is 12" at the shoulder and weighs 22 lbs. Like most terriers they have large teeth for their size.

Ken, I guess Dirk doesn't like the vacuum. The Afghan Hound I had tried to pee on small dogs that got too close and he found annoying.

Keep safe,

CN Charlie
