I know I will isolate the medicine ....in the garage for 3 days before I bring them into the house.

I understand that different folks wish to take varying precautions, but I'm not quite sure what isolating the medicine accomplishes.

Is this something you do as a normal practice?  Is the virus somehow able to penetrate the child (and in my case adultproof) seals?  Or is the medicine container the issue?

And since I'm at the top of the page, does the virtual diner have a virtual take out window?  If it does, then all the virtual bad for you carb laden food is on the house.

Herrinchoker, do you just shut off the engine at night and drift?  I assume there is no commercial shipping that would run into to you.

Hope your neck feels better soon.

Not likely to try possom or raccoon anytime soon.  The times I've tried dandylion it's been bitter.  Do you have to pick it before it blooms.

This is the only remotely funny thing I've see today:

from twitter:   Years from now We can explain to the grand kids how we used to have a thing called a "High Five" They'll say "Ewwww gross! You'd touch someone elses hand??"

You just have to be smart about if you venture out. I understand your wanting to be cautious.  a repriator or mask is only going to help someone if YOU have something and don't wish to pass it on to others. So wasting a good n95 to go shopping is just that a waste. If you are worried about contiainers wipe them down with alcohol. wipe the cart hanlde if you use a cart while you are out.  The big thing is Don't touch your face with your hands, Wash your hands with hot water and soap. Try not to panic. Since i work in a hospital I do shed my clothes directly to the washer when I come home, no need for them to spend time in the house otherwise. I do have a set of clothes I wear out and ones I wear around the house.

I am home today because I came down with a upper respiratory snots, no virus, I got checked and all good. I just did not want to pick up anthing else.

They may say gloves and a mask are sufficient for shopping, but whenever I go out, absolutely everyone I see is also wearing clothes.

I'm not quite sure what isolating the medicine accomplishes.

Everything that does not need refrigeration and comes into the house is isolated in the garage for three days for the virus to die. Medicine, pasta, soda, bottled water, etc. all get a quarantine of three days to be safe.

Maybe so, but I am not taking any chances. I have the goggles, N95 masks, and rubber gloves on hand, so I will use them.

I have masks because I always wear them when working with any power tool that makes dust. I have always taken the proper use of PPE very seriously, and safety is a lifestyle for me. I honestlly always wear safety glasses when performing any work, and I wear appropriate gloves for all tasks.

I made the trip to the grocery store today.

It was very strange to leave the house. I have not talked to anyone other than my wife in ten days.

I went at 10:00 AM, and the store was almost empty. Apparently there are lines at the door when they open, a mad rush, then nothing until after 4:00.

I picked up my wife's prescriptions. No one was at the Pharmacy counter, so I also bought some Sudafed which is always a pain.

I walked up and down every aisle in the store. they were 100% cleaned out of paper towels, bathroom tissue, and red meat which I expected. There were some surprises, no onions or potatoes to be found, but bread and dairy were overflowing. Plenty of bottled water and soft drinks. No cold medicine. Salt was all gone, and there were very few spices. Bagged snacks were fully stocked.

There was no Aquafresh toothpaste, but all other brands were on the shelf.

I bought four pounds of butter. I guess I am hoarding this now, but these times will teach us what our priorities really are. I also bought all the bottles of Orville Redenbocker Premium Popcorn on the shelf. This is not a popular product, and there is only room on the shelf for 6, they had 4. I have Netflix, Hulu, Disney, and over 500 DVDs. My wife and I will be needing the popcorn.

Beer was fully stocked, and stacked in the aisles, and it was almost all on sale. I did not buy any.

Canned foods were not fully stocked, and there were a few blank spaces, but anything you wanted could be had. I don't buy much canned foods.

Red meat and seafood were gone, but plenty of poultry, hot dogs, sausages, ham, and some pork. I bought several pounds of italian sausage. I thought I bought Bratwurst, but I guess not. It was not in the bags at home.

Cleaning supplies were on the shelf! I guess if there are no paper towels why buy any 409?

I spent over $300.00 today, and I am sure we can easily last 5-6 weeks as long as the power stays on and the water keeps flowing through the pipes. My wife has over a one month supply of all medication.

When I arrived back home I wiped down all the perishables with Lysol wipes before they went into the refrigerator. I hope this was enough.

Hopefully this was the only trip I need to make until we are on the backside of the curve. I really hope I did not bring any virus home.

Hunkering down again and going back into hermit mode.

Sounds like you are in good shape.

When we went last week, the situation was much the same. No paper goods of any kind, but "business as usual" in the Doritos, Cheetos, Fritos aisle.

One of my favorite ways to stay busy and have fun this past week was to take some more whimsical-in-nature pictures on the 30 by 30 photo diorama.

My wife and I needed to get out of the house, so we took a drive to see a grave near our house!  This one I have wanted to see for a while, but I never got there until today.

Long story:

In 1852, Richard and Susan Haile, along with their six children and other pioneers, started out from St. Joseph, Missouri to go to California.

In southern Nebraska, not far from where we live, Susan died at a campsite, probably from cholera.  Richard buried her there, and marked the grave with a wooden marker.

Richard then put his six kids on other wagons and sent them on to California.

He took his wagon back to St. Joseph.  He sold the wagon and horses, and with the money, he had a stone grave marker professionally cut and engraved.

He then hauled the tombstone, walking, pushing a wheelbarrow, over 240 miles back to the grave site.  He set up the stone, then took off west.  He eventually met up with his kids, and they settled in Napa County, California.

The grave site is marked, but unfortuately, the original stone is gone.

This is a picture of my wife at the site.  A stone marks the site of the original grave.  It is on a small hill overlooking the plains.

I told my wife I have trouble pushing a pneumatic-wheeled wheelbarrow a few feet.  This guy pushed a metal-wheeled wheelbarrow loaded with a heavy tombstone 240 miles over hills, ravines, and rough ground.

It's an amazing story, and shows the toughness of our forefathers.

Hi, folks.

As of tomorrow morning, Wisconsin will be officially shut down, and with it, the Kalmbach Media offices, for at least a month. The Model Railroader staff will be working from home to continue producing the magazine (some of us, yours truly included, started last week). If you need to contact us, our e-mails and phones have been forwarded to home. Just be patient with the fact that we won't have the resources at hand that we used to.

Be aware that although our offices are closed, "working from home" means that we will continue to monitor and moderate the Forums. If anything, this means that we will have less patience for tomfoolery than usual. This includes personal attacks directed at fellow Forum members. Several posts are being deleted from this thread for that reason.

I know this situation has us all tense, but this is a situation that you have to honestly admit EVERYONE is in together. Let's have some sympathy for each other, step back, and consider your words before you post. 'Cause Vinny is still watching from the corner of the Diner, behind his N95 mask.

Also, just as a personal favor to me, let's cut back on the coronavirus talk. Feel free to talk about how it affects you and your family, but none of us are professional epidemiologists, and even they are still learning about this virus. So hold off on talking about things like number of cases and how fast it spreads and how deadly it is and the like. I don't want this forum to become a source of misinformation, and I don't have the time or energy to fact-check this kind of stuff, so if I see it I'm just going to start deleting it wholesale.

In other words, let's please keep things pleasant, and don't make my job any harder than it already is right now. Thank you. Wink

Steve: Sorry if my asking questions about the virus in here crossed the line. I have found that a lot of people in here are more level headed than anywhere else.

Hope that working from home is OK for you. I hated doing that. Home is where I am happy and get away from work. I never liked taking work home.

Take care. You are appreciated.

Howdy ....

This is our 13th day of hunkering down. ... Not bad at all. ... I have been working on the model railroad. ..... When we got groceries last week, we never went in the store. We shopped online at Kroger, and we next drove to the store. They placed our order in the back of our vehicle. Easy.

Steve O .... Thanks for looking out for the MR Forum and the Diner.

Good Afternoon,

A windy, cloudy day here but it is fairly mild. A lot of the snow has melted, not that there was much this winter. I expect by sometime next week it will be largely gone.

TF,  my wife too is finding the current situation very stressful. I try to offer support.

It is very quiet here. I didn't do much today except change the furnace filter. Not just slip in a new one as we have an old Lennox that has a hammock style filter that has to be cut to size and then spread over a metal frame. It does make for a large filter area though.

Haven't heard from Johnboy for a while. Hope he is ok.

For diversion I have been watching old NCIS re-runs.

Keep safe,

I belong to another non MR forum and yesterday someone told a woman maybe she should just watch As The World Turns.  I think it was a failed attempt at humor, but the fur flew!  People, I think, tongue in cheek, suggested we should have political party sub-forums.

I worked with surgeons for 35 years and I am both thick skinned and have turned down the gain on what annoys me.  I've only been truly annoyed a couple times in this forum, but not in the diner.

If I look at twitter; it's a different story.  I can go from 0 to 60 in seconds and am ready to repeal the 8th amendment on cruel and unusual punishment and bring back the Wheel.

As I said in another thread, this forum might be the only social interaction some of us have, outside our spouse.  Coronavirus is a big deal.  It might be bigger than 911.  Not everything that is said will be accurate, but this is: Don't take industrial strength fish tank cleaner to prevent or treat coronavirus.

1.35am here. I can´t sleep.

Our friend called in the eveneing to inform us that the meeting with the public notary has been postponed, due to the virus. This puts another shovel of sand into the gearbox of our planned move.

I am not liking this.

Happy times!

Our friend called in the eveneing to inform us that the meeting with the public notary has been postponed, due to the virus.

Banks can notarize, but banks here only have drive in windows open.  Lawyers can do it, but they might not be open either.  Stock brokers are open in the US.  UPS stores have notaries, I didn't know that.  And the court house, but I don't know if they are open either.

I have US Treasury savings bonds in an online US govt account.  I need to change how there it was registered and needed a Medallion Signature.  It's like a notary, but for purely financial things.  One bank refused to do it specifically because it was for the US Treasury.  I don't know why.  Fortunately I had a bank account with another bank.  This was before coronavirus.

I am a scientist and have many years of education, training, and experience.  I believe in research, science, data, and analysis. I don’t have much room for feelings or hunches when it comes to making critical decisions.

Covid-19 is a big, big deal.   It’s not the seasonal flu and has the capacity for killing and injuring long-term many people.  That is a FACT.  As BigDaddy writes, for some model railroaders, social interaction may be limited.  For whatever reason, they can’t or don’t want to go on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter or other social media sites.   Particularly those in the elderly demographic which describes many model railroaders. There needs to be a portal where model railroaders can share accurate information about the Coronavirus threat.  Model Railroader would do a service to these individuals and the model railroad community by permitting such discourse.  Apparently they wish not to do that.

I’ll probably get banned for this post because it did not focus on why my order from MBKlein was a couple days late.

Stay safe.
