I think that Dave Farey (hope I spelled that right had an article in MR some years back on how to restore faded scenery. It looked like brand new when it was finished. Try to find that article in the mag index.

Thanks Todd,

I never knew they was a way to freshenup old lichen. I will have to try out your method on a couple of old bags I have. Thanks again.

If you are talking about lichen, if you can find liquid glycerine (try a pharmacy), you can add about 1/2 tablespoon to a pot of hot water on the stove, and bring your lichen back to life. I used to gather lichen in the wild and treat it this way along with various fabric dyes to get good cheap foliage. The glycerine will give it flexability, if you need to adjust the color, just add a bit of dye. I think you might find more detailed info. in one of the scenery books available, but this has been a "family recipe" that always worked for me.
Hope this helps, Todd C.

Hi Bob,

If it is an inorganic material like ground foam it should still be good. Lichen, being a natural product, will dry out and be a little more dificult to wore with than fresh. But once you get it on the layout it will dry out anyway. As the other poster indicated, you may want to make sure the colors match with what you are to blend it with.

Postings remain on the active screen until there is a month on inactivity. To access older discussions you need to search them out. The search function will check through all current and past posts and will allow you to access the old posts from the seqarch results screen. There is currently no way to review the old posts without the search function. This was a topic from the past. I will try to ressurect it.

I don't see why it couldn't be used but if it has been in light, esp flourescent light, it might not match the shades of new stuff

I have some woodland scenics groundcover material and some lichen left over from my last layout (10 years ago). Does this stuff ever go bad to the point where it can't be used? Would it be best to toss it and start with new stuff? Also I have noticed to many older postings on this forum are no longer showing. How long are postings kept before they are removed? Is there a way to view older postings? Thanks-Bob
