Another thought about Georgia...

.

Something people do not realize about Atlanta, is that there are large portions of the city that are wooded an undeveloped. There are areas where you can leave a crowded neighborhood, drive into the "woods", then in 1,000 feet be back in Atlanta again.

.

As such, sometimes you will see families of deer right inside the big city.

.

I saw this doe right next to the fence that surrounds the Atlanta airport last week.

Good evening,

I hope everyone is well these days.

While sorting through a shoebox of photos from my late sister's collection I found one of particular interest:

 Barre_Plains-1955 by Edmund, on Flickr

My dad was born in Barre Plains, Massachusetts, and this photo shows the B&A depot there on the Ware River Branch. My sister, Linda, who is five in the 1955 photo is being led by my grandfather who was station agent at Barre Plains. He would die a year later, before I came along. Unfortunately, anyone with any knowledge of the goings-on here are no longer with us.

Who are all the folks on the platform of the RS-2, and — why? I don't have any other photos that may show the engine number. It appears to be one of the passenger equipped Alcos with buffer plates and signal lines and, presumably, a steam generator.

Just thought I'd share this treasure for all the WWW to see.

Enjoy the festivities!

         Thank you, Ed

I hope your girls know what a fabulous and generous set of parents they have! When I finished my studies and left home, I did not take anything but my clothes and a few other personnel belongings with me.

.

Yes they do.

.

My wife's family strongly believes that parents should give everything to make sure their children are set for a good start in life.

.

My family sounds more like yours. I only took my clothes and the stuff that would have gone to the curb anyway.

Good Evening!

What a day! I have been really busy since 7am this morning, with only a short break to grab lunch!

I had an interesting telephone conversation with a build of container homes. He told me that using sea containers will not result in any major saving, but will give you the restraints in the size you can build. Using the only the way how containers are built, and applying that method to just about any size within  reason (a module should not exceed 3.50m in width), will cost just as much. With that information in the back of my head, I revisited my designs and, after a lenghty call to Sylvia, we agreed to use the first idea as the basis for a slightly larger design, which add more than a third to the square footage. The rest of the day was spent putting everything into CAD, fine tuning by phone with Sylvia.

Here it is, ready to be sent out to invite quotes from builders!

Floor plan:

Inside views:

The house basically consists of two roughly 8.10m by 3.10m modules. The 3.10m width allows for better transport, which means quite a substantila cost saving!

Side views:

Not to forget the night view!

Tomorrow I will start on the duplex, which will be a lot of cut and paste to do! The rest of this evening is reserved for relaxation!

We made a "deal" with all three girls. If they graduated high school with straight A's, never had trouble with the police, and weren't pregnant, we would set them up for adulthood. . They all did it, and received a car, furniture, money to set up their own household, and a good solid start in life.

I hope your girls know what a fabulous and generous set of parents they have!

When I finished my studies and left home, I did not take anything but my clothes and a few other personnel belongings with me. My parents - especially my mother - were way too tight-fisted to help me start my own life, and so I did!

Iechi da!

They all did it, and received a car, furniture, money to set up their own household, and a good solid start in life. It worked out very well, except for one detail. I still don't have any grandchildren.

.

I maybe should have left the "don't get pregnant" part off the list.

Kevin, I'll go out on a limb here.... Your favorite color is red?

.

Except for my 1991 F150 (Blue), the 1993 Grand Marquis (Silver), and the 2011 Mustang (blue), every vehicle I have owned has been red.

.

Specifically, red and white is my favorite color combination.

Love this song (and the one who sings it):

She put a map and a tube of lipstick
In an old Winn Dixie sack
She pulled her Firebird out of the driveway
Without ever looking back

By the time she got to Georgia
It was nearly half past eight
She bought a ninety-nine cent breakfast
At the Stuckey's by the interstate

And she don't know where she's going
And she's really not sure why
But she's got to try and find a way
To live before she dies

She might see Rock City
She might see Ruby Falls
She might change her name to Marilyn
And drop her southern drawl

She wants to climb Lookout Mountain
And see all seven states
She wants to feel the wind through her hair again
Before it gets too late to see Rock City

Well, she stopped in Chattanooga
And called her mama's beauty shop
She said I won't be home for supper
Give my love to Bo and Pop

And her mama knew the reasons
Without even asking why
A woman's got to try and find a way
To live before she dies

She might see Rock City
Oh, she might buy a souvenir plate
She wants to feel the wind through her hair again
Before it gets too late to see Rock City

Yes Kate is good, we go see her in Nashville every so often.

Funeral Food is one of my favorites.

I might have put 100 miles on it, maybe not yet. We took it to the beach twice last Spring Break.

Excellent Photography.

I just have to say that's a really cool picture Doughless.

Old relics of an old school picture you provided are few and far between..... Perfect.

I like it!

The cross tracks in front, centered inYes  ..... Hope you don't mind I took it,  it's in my file.

Again, I really like it

Well thanks, but I didn't take the pic.  I found it on the 'net.  I drive by that tower once in a while, and since its in a very accessible spot, I figured there were plenty of pics out there.  I selected one off of a public search.

Sorry for the confusion.

I've linked the coordinants and map of the location of the tower.  Its in a congested area of old downtown.  The crossing is the former mainlines of the old Central of Georgia RR and the Atlanta & West Point RR (I think).  Not a lot of room for engine servicing and a yard, but I suppose the county could have built their fairly new courthouse over the old yard area.  The tower still seems unusually close to the diamond, however.

Good Morning All,

A regular and an English muffin please Zoe. Still putting in railing and guard rails on the bridges but no other progress to speak of. the shop is busy as we load to leave for Sebring Saturday morning. Last event of the year for us.

Steven,   cool car. You do need to be aware that the rear suspension on all of them except the IRS Cobra has a weak point. At the limit, the car goes into snap oversteer due to the layout of the rear axel links. It can catch you out in a heartbeat if you aren't cautious. On track days it was always fun driving around Mustangs on corners in my little Lotus with better cornering.

Love the pic of the abandoned coaling tower Douglas. Likely it was double tracked at one time especially since it seems to have had two chutes. From all the splices on the left side just beyond the crossover, that is likely where the switch used to be. Fifty or sixty years is enough for most evidence to have been erased of the second set of rails in my opinion.

Time to get back into the shop and pick up tools.    Ciao, J.R.

Nice car Kevin, every time we go to Hawaii it is either a Mustang like yours or a Jeep we rent while were there. Both are a lot of fun.

Just a couple more from Georgia since I leave in the morning.

There is nothing more "Georgia Railroad" to me than a right of way through a pine woods.

.

.

And then seeing a bulkhead flatcar filled with products made from those pine trees.

.

Good night to all. Best wishes.

I use peanut butter with bird seed stuck in it.  It catches all I need to be caught, from mice to chipmunks, and the occasional nosey squirrel.

Hi Mike,

Trapping mice, okayThumbs Up. Squirrels, even better!Thumbs UpYeah But chipmunks??? I love chipmunks! Some summers I can get them to sit right in my hand to get the peanuts, and one year I had one that would climb right up to my chest to get a peanut (gets your clothes dirty real fast especially if the ground is wet!) I have been nipped a couple of times but the bites were more exploratory than aggressive. They have never left a mark. I think they just wanted to see if my finger was worth chewing on.

Seriously, I know that they can be a problem. I'm sure that they have created a wonderful rotting mess of peanuts and shells under my hot tub, but so far we haven't detected any odours. So, in our case, because they haven't done us any harm, we will continue to watch and feed the cute little beasties.

Squirrels, on the other hand, wreak havoc on our planters and our gardens regularly.Angry They have even destroyed our deck lights and they chewed the cord off of our deck shade, making it pretty much useless.AngryAngry Unfortunately, we are not allowed to dispatch the things, and the law says that you can't move them more than a kilometer from where they were trappedBang Head. We tried using a slingshot with chick peas (rather than filling the back yard with little metal balls). On the rare ocassions when the chick peas actually flew straight enough to hit the squirrels, they barely flinched.AngryLaughLaugh

Cheers!!

  Eveing Diners

Flo, give the gang and I a Beer please and Dirk his Buffalo treat. Rick good to see you again, your RBF is on my tap!

Work Front Had 3 customers today and 1 bought and I made a extra $110.00 I believe.

Mouse Trap Baite. For now I am sticking with the Slim Jim's. They seem more durable.

Steven While I like that style Mustang, is it the 4.6 liter with the 3 valves per cylinder? I have read about the head problems and it is a majior repair. Hope if has those heads they have been repaired before hand.

Later none smoking Ken and Dirk, well he is a sleep so he has nothing to add.

Let me put it to you like this Steven

Anything you want, anything you wish is yours if you believe

Anything you start to do is not compromised by others if you believe and continue to do it

Time is not your friend and time will not help you

Start whatever it is you believe in now and persist and continue with it

It will be yours if you wish it,  believe it and continue with it

Do you get me sweetheart

Start before it's too late

Mouse trap discussion - The bacon trap would definitely catch me. I have found that Nutella works a bit better than plain peanut butter does, up until it starts to dry out after several weeks.

I use peanut butter with bird seed stuck in it.  It catches all I need to be caught, from mice to chipmunks, and the occasional nosey squirrel.

Have a good Thanksgiving eveyone!
