Just like Larry I haven't had a crumpet for years! I can remember the butter running down my chin at my grandmother's place! Actually, using a knife and fork on them would be a sin!! They are the sort of food that you have to be in close contact with!

I was going to go full retro on it too, I wanted a white one with a red interior, I'd trim it out in black, chin spoiler, rear wing/spoiler, rims, hood/hood scoop, would all be retro styled.

We had a balmy 55F here today. I really worked up a sweat cleaning the mud out of flower pots, 105 of them. I only got about half done as the mud was very wet from all the rain so it was a bit of work.
Ken, really glad to hear Dirk is working out so well. Robbie says Hi to Dirk.
Tomorrow I'm off for my annual physical exam. After seeing the Doc, it is EKG, then blood work so I won't be out of there for over an hour. I have to take my wife to an art class she starts in the afternoon, then voting( our federal election) and in the evening to a lecture on birding. A very busy day for me.
No RR stuff at all today but maybe later in the week.

Day did not go as I hoped. Have a leaky fauct in the bathroom. I am sure it is the cold water fauct, I replaced the hot water washer say 10 years ago. Could not get the darn decorative cap off to get to the screw this time.
Went to visit Dwight at the nursing home today. Dwight is out next door neighbor. He is 92 years old and a WWII Vet. Looks like he might come home in the next 10 days. I have mixed feelings about this. I would love to have Dwight home, but I am afraid he is just going to fall again.
Took Dirk with us and he was verry well behaved. Heck he even sat every time I told him to and stayed sitting. Think he was trying to make up for being a bad doggie today. He is not allowed in the living room because my wife is nut's and that is where the front door is. Kitchen to living room has folding doors, and he knows how to open them. Normanly leaves them a lone, not today!
Sue had went to the store and he was waiting by the folding doors and left me in the bedroom. When I came out, I did not see Dirk? Looked at the folding doors and one was open? Found him in the living room lounging in what I call my Captain Kirk chair. He looked so dam cute I could not be mad at him! Just waiting for his Mommy.

The other one was the Roast Beef Po-Boys we always had. You didn't find the really good ones until you got the ones where the juice is dripping down your wrists while you're eating one
Those are the really good ones. Judy's sister that lived in Gretna knew where to get those.

In Atlanta there are several great Louisiana style restaurants. Louisiana Bistreaux near the airport, and Henry's in Acworth are my two favorite.
There are none in Florida that I know of.

There really are two things I and my family miss most from New Orleans -- Mardi Gras, and the food. You are lucky to get something like that from Endymion. That parade used to come by the school where I worked, on Canal Street, on Saturday night. It was a big night.

Little Timmy, I see that you are in Douglas, AZ. I have some real memories there. I was on a geology trip in college to tour the mines. We stayed at the Copper Queen Hotel in Bisbee. That night, the hotel bar closed at 1:00 a.m. We weren't quite ready to quit, so we piled into our college vans and drove across the border at Douglas. We stayed at several little bars for a while, and decided to head back. I guess none of us thought about the fact that we were going to try to cross the border into the U.S. at 3:00 a.m. and none of us making much sense. The border guards finally gave up on talking to us and let us go back to Bisbee. A fun night!

They went fast and there was only a thousand made. My brother-in-law managed to get the Bacchus one.

So, .... there I was on a very early ( 4:30 am) Saturday morning.
My wife had convinced me to drive her from Douglas to Phonix so she could see her friend that she hasn't seen in 15 year's.
When we got to Benson , there were crowd's of people everywhere !!! Turn's out that the Big Boy was coming through, and people were lining up all along the track's from Tucson to Benson.
I was too early to get any picture's ( the Big Boy wouldnt be there for several hour's yet) and couldn't stop anyway
On the way home, my wife took "pity" on me, and tricked me into stopping in Tucson at the local hobby shop.

NOPE!!!! It was 6:01 pm ...... and they were locking the door as I ran up with cash in my hand's !!!!!!

No particular continuity to my post, but the new kitten has learned to play Fetch. She has a catnip mouse toy that we can toss across the room. She Chase's it, picks it up and brings it back to be thrown again. She loves this game.
She was a rescue cat, and had the usual collection of outside-cat problems, so we've had to keep her away from the older cat until the vet gives her a clean bill of health. So, the kitten is in the bedroom all night with us. She is still nocturnal, so loves playing Fetch even when the lights go out.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Ed I haven't had crumpets in years..My late wife use to make them the size of a dinner plate and was covered in fried apples, blackberries or strawberries.
The retirement home layout is progressing right along. The layout will go around three walls and is a dog bone type layout. The layout wll feature a double track main, a eight track yard with yard lead,a combine diesel and steam servicing area with two industrial parks located inside of the curves on the curve modular section and both industry parks will feature independent operation so, the main lines won't be fouled while switching the industries.
We decided to use Atlas C83 flex track with Peco C83 large switches on the main and medium switches in the yard and industry aras. Power is DC and we wiill use four MRC Tech II and one Control Master 2 power packs with Atlas selectors for block wiring..The CM 2 will be the yard power.
Since the layout costs is cominng out of our pockets we are using what we have on hand as far as power. The CM 2 is mine as one as one of the Tech 2s. We decided on Atlas selectors since they are easy to wire..One wire for each block can't be easier then that.

Good morning. No breakfast for me today at the diner -- I'll have donuts after church.
Another fall morning -- cool, clear, and a hint of winter. I love this time of year.
Fall in New Orleans was wonderful because the weather finally cooled to bearable. However, you never really got the feel of autumn with the leaves changing, the smell of fireplaces, and the feel that you need to enjoy it because winter is coming.
Ricky W, I hope your friend gets some good news from the doctors. It sounds very serious.
TF, that looks like a neat place. We are headed to a pumpkin patch Friday with the grandkids. I'll drop a bundle of cash that day on pies, pumpkins, rides, etc.
Ken, you took your dog to Lowes. I have a friend who works for a Lowes in the Phoenix area. If I remember correctly, he told me someone there brought a pig with them to the store.

It´s Sunday - time for a big breakfast! I´ll go for a German breakfst this time, fresh baked rolls, butter, cheese, cold cuts, jams, honey, fruit, a soft boiled egg and lots of coffee, please!
I am a miserable sod today. I woke up in the wee hours with my left elbow hurting like hell - just out of the blue! I have no idea why! It´s boiled down to a nagging pain by now, but still highly discomforting. If it has not improved by tomorrow, I will have to see my doc about it.
Steven - in the good old days, when cars were mostly mechanical contraptions, you could give a flood car a good dry out and clean-up, replaced the elctric components, like starter motor, wiper motor, alternator, distributore and battery, and you were back on the road. With today´s cars, a a flood car is a total loss as all the electronics are gone. Better to stay away from that car.

NWP SWPI've been looking at cars, Copart has a 2012 Boss 302 for auction currently bidding at 2k, it's a "flood" car, it appears to be pretty clean, I might be looking into just how wet it got to see if it's worth going after.
A "flood" car eh!?! I'd walk away. If it was salt water I'd run away. It's only garnering a 2 grand bid for a reason.

The Earnslaw is a beautiful ship! We have an old steamer named the Segwun that still plys the waters in the Muskoka lakes. It was built in 1887 but has undergone substantial renovations over the years. It is a bit shorter than the Earnslaw but still an impressive craft.

What would life be without our better halves?
Nothing..... it would probably be everything you said. The way my life was 26 years ago before my better half Judy came into the picture. Key words (better half)....., that's my Judy.
I spent the better part of last week flat on the couch. I suppose it's better I got the flu early this year. Now I don't have to worry about it for the rest of the 351 days of Winter
I got one more day of Summer and one more day of Fall the last 2 days. Yesterday it was 72° after it snowed, just days ago in crazy Minnesota.
Judy wanted to go to the apple orchard in White Bear Lake and I figured being out in that beautiful weather would be better than laying around on the couch sick one more day so I took her.
Fall is rather festive, it was kind of fun.
She liked this pumpkin with the big stock. It was the display but the manager gave it to me for twenty bucks. That made Judy happy, so it was worth it.
Corn mazes are not exactly my idea of a good time. You pay money to go get lost in the corn, I don't think so but somehow Judy talked me into it this time.
I'm telling you, that fresh maple-nut caramel corn was better than CrackerJack ever was.
We went to the Blacksmith Lounge in Hugo for broasted chicken, cuz it's always so good and it was only 8 miles away. Judy didn't play pull tabs this time but she played the meat raffle and won!
My favorite part of the day was railroad orientated of course. There was a railroad berm going across the lake just like I've seen in North Dakota driving across the plains.
It was a fun day.
Today it was 66° and sunny. I took my Mustang out for possibly it's final romp....., unless there'll be a little more Indian Summer Let's just keep our fingers crossed.

Ken - Glad it was not a worse accident. I’ve had a couple of close calls, but so far have managed to avoid the idiot drivers around me.
Closest call (last one at least) was a F150 blew a yield sign with me entering the intersection, and I did not have a yeild sign. I quickly cut left into a empty turn only lane and missed him by mere inches. I also was blowing the cars horn as he had zero clue I was there. He then got his feelings hurt and stopped in the middle of the lane before signaling that I was number 1, before continuing on.

W*^k - Got stopped by the PSP (Pa State Police) in the w*^k car the other day. No, I was not driving above the speed limit, nor was I on my cell phone. I also did not commit any other moving violation. The delivery car has a defective (and apparently now retired number) license plate, where the paint for the letters/numbers has peeled away from the metal of the plate. Seems that my driving in the rain made it peel off the rest of the way, so that the plate number is no longer readable. (Until you get right up to it and can see the outline of the stamped in numbers.) As I was nearing the NY state line, the officer initiated a traffic stop.
When he learned it was not my personal vehicle, he ran it’s info and mine, then came back with a HUGE 10X17 piece of paper, that was the info he ran, as well as the stop information, and a form that the car owner needed to fill in and drop off at the station.
That complete, there will be a free replacement plate coming in the mail.
First time I have ever been pulled over, and it was all because of a defective license plate, on a vehicle that I don’t even own...
At least my record of no moving or parking violations is still intact! (Many people my age have had at least a parking ticket by now, if not a speeding ticket.) I always try to remain alert to those type of things, as I don’t want my train money turning into fine money...
Drum friend - I had mentioned in a prior post that I will sometimes fill in for a friend when we get together to play music. He had gone through throat cancer, caused by acid reflux of all things, and, while not cured, it was under control. Last couple of weeks he started getting excruciating headaches, and then developed stroke like symptoms. (Weakness on right side, face drooping, trouble speaking.)
They quickly ruled out a stroke, as the cat-scan showed a brain bleed. They did surgery on Wednesday to correct the bleed, and found it was caused by (and covering) a tumor, that is about 3/4” diameter. That turned out to be cancerous as well, so it seems that his throat cancer hopped the elevator up a couple of floors. He heads to UPMC Pittsburgh on Tuesday to discuss options, if any.
His right hand has gotten bad enough that he can no longer grip a drum stick, so, I maybe filling in a bit more often. I will need to get some more songs into my practice routine that he normally plays. (Although the group of friends, myself included, is way more concerned with his health currently. So most likely no jam sessions for a while.)
Trains - Got caught by the local a couple times this week, and was witness to a big near miss on one of them. They came within a couple of feet of pegging a pickup truck who was not paying attention to where he was. (Farmer checking on a field, and was more preoccupied with that then he should have been, as he crossed the tracks on the private access road, directly in front of the oncoming local!) Had the engineer not been paying close attention there, and immediately applied the brakes like he did, there would definitely have been a collision. I had noticed the farm truck, and then immediately noticed the air brake hiss on the local, right as the engineer sounded the horn in one long blast. He reacted in mere seconds of the truck coming into view, and because of that barely missed having a new coupler cover.
He did a great job of avoiding a bad situation with his very quick thinking and actions, and I gave him a great big thumbs up when he passed me.

Well, NWP SWP, that is true! The world is full of loonies! One of my favorite stories about that is this one:

I guess I should consider myself lucky so far in my search for the "perfect Lady". The Lady I am dating at the moment is intelligent, caring, easy on the eyes, and a lot of fun to be around. Just wish both of us weren't so busy and could see each other more often..... She has just added being on a ladies Volleyball League to her weekly schedule for the winter. That is in addition to swimming (several miles a week), Pickleball, Golf, and walking several times a week. Of course the Volleyball will replace golf for the winter..... I am taking her to Eastman Theater (Kodak Hall) in a week and a half to a concert featuring Wynton Marsalis with the Jazz from Lincoln Center Orchestra. That should be fabulous, and it will be great to have a lovely lady that I like sitting next to me. Will be having dinner at her house before we head to Rochester that evening. At this point I have no idea what the future holds, but my youngest son reminded me that, "Slow and Steady wins the race!"
BTW, I am now running 4 miles a day 3 days a week over at the fieldhouse.... Never in my life would I have thought I could do that!
Frankly, I have been celibate for way too long after losing my wife to cancer. I don't think I could be a Monk! I'll settle for being a Deacon (Presbyterian). LOL At least "Hope springs eternal....." - Alexander Pope

1 I did ask her out after being warned to not date coworkers by all the supervisors (its not a written rule so they cant use that to fire me)

3 the aquatics director will back up her version of the story that from what I've heard makes me to be much less than a gentleman
4 all the guards will back her up too, I have maybe 3 people to back me up
