Evening folks,

We does not speak of the weird yeller thing in theses parts, big no no!

Model manufacturers need this learn, wes donts needs anymore weird yeller things, has we too many of thems.

No offense to fans of der weird yeller thing, but personally I'm tired of armor yeller.

Anyways, Brent, you mentioned I while back is should apply at the Copper Mill Golf Course, well Monday afternoon I dropped it an application, this evening I received a call from the manager asking me to come in tomorrow evening for an interview! Hopefully I'll finally be out of the hotel maintenance business!

You’d never see me on one of those, those yellow things need a wash and the weird yellow thing management doesn’t seem to maintain them well enough.

Maybe Utah wasn't such a popular choice for the location of the Diner this month? I didn't think there were so many Union Pacific dissenters here.

My experiences and perception of the UP is a little more positive. Of course, my early railroading was spent for a majority of the time on the Penn Central and I saw things there that would really raise some eyebrows today.

Ed, I dont think its inasmuch a mutual dislike for the strange yeller thing but more of just over exposure, armer yeller seems to be all the model manufacturers favorite color, just like GEVOs seems to be the favorite locomotive type, it's great that we're "in" Utah for the celebration.

 Evening Diners

Flo, give the gang and I a Beer Ed a Crown Royal, Brent a Royal Hudson and leave a stein outside for Ulrich.

Not feeling good tonight. I think I may have another kidney infection coming on. Lower back hurts and I don't seem to be able to something if you get my drift.

 Harrison Great photos!

Best Big Steam Power? Well in HO scale the PCM Y-6b is my best steam engine. In real steam in looks, I think the Big Boy followed by the EM-1 then the Allegheny, then the Y3 then the Y6b. Far as real traction effort, I love trains, I don't study them.

Heartland Division CB&Q
Ed..... I hope you know I was just razzing you. I kid people if I like them

Gary I am the same way as Ed knows.

Ed Better start dusting off a Reading T-1.

Smoking Front. Lets see, as of last night I have a total of 117 cigarettes, tonight I have 117 cigarettes? Whistling Hum, well this is day 1 I guess. Only hang up might be I forgot my charging station at work! Bang Head I did fully charge it at work so I maybe all right.

 Later, Ken

I don't get it either Ed,  I thought this place would be a buzz about the coming of the Big Boy, the spike ceremony, and all things Utah, like Chicago was,

So far, we've witnessed a trip back to Buffalo, UP bashing, and someone who thinks he's talking like Lion. Confused

Hopefully the diner gets rerailed again.  Did someone forget a derailer? Laugh

I've seen that film about the Penn.  It's unbelievable the condition of things.

So, back to Utah!  I know nothing about the state, other than the Great Salt Lake, and Mormons, who have an excellent choir.

Bed time.  Many projects tomorrow, rain has finally stopped, for a couple days anyway.

Mike.

Hey all!

I am once again at work. Forgot my cell phone, going through withdrawal, lol.

But it'll gimme a chance to read the free newspapers the hotels offer guests.

YOUNG STEVEN : I think you are working the desk at the Y? Or am  misunderstanding something? WHat about Hotel front desk, thats what I do, it isn't hard...as long as you an get along with people. Not particulary lucratve, either. I work Night audit, so don't have to put up much with people...if you can get used to 3rd shift.

RAY: I forgot to give you my condolences on the loss of your kitty. WE had to put to sleep our beloved 20 year cat Cuddles, the day before Thanksgiving last year. Not much to be thankful for! His "sister" we had to put down before CHristmas 4 years earlier. Its more heartrendering and heart breaking the longer you have them. Her organs were shutting down, adn his kidneys failing was the first sign of what was to come as the same thing. In 2 weeks, he wasted away, cost $600 to treat,a nd didn't come out of it well. so finally, the decision was made to take him to the vet, knowing he wouldn't come home. The vet asked one last tiem were we sure we wanted to do this? AND I gave the vet one last stab at it, asking/ sayng "not unless you have something else to try"? shge said no, that was her recommendaation {to put hsim to sleep}. SHe gave him an injection in his kidneys, but he was ever the trouper and after 20 mins of fighting, she gave him the cardiac injection. In less than a minute, his life ebbed from him, and finally My OH said"oh no, his tongue is sticking out"...I siad "thats it, hes gone". Cried all the way home I did. The nurse at my one drs office works for the animal rescue squad,a nd had a  kittnen who took quite a trip in the wheelwell of a pickup truck. WHen the trucks owner got to Lowes, he got out and heard meowing....opened hte hood and there was a black tuxedo kitten meowing his head off. HSe asked if I wanted him. I had for years said when orange striped long haired CUddles went away, I didn't want any more, alls they do is die on yu and break your heart. my OH wanted a black cat, preferrably a tuxedo female. Well my OH think on it for 2 days and said "we'll take him!!". I thought, I don't know if we are doing the rihgt thing or not, But we got him. Hes  HANDFULL! Hes into everything and anything, if something comes up misssing, it's guaranteed he had something to do with it. But he's ours now, so be it.

Nothing else to report, really, not that I can say on here. WEll, maybe I can. I spent almost all day monday getting a ultrsounsd and seeing the urologist. I, Ahem, accidentally CRUSHED one of my anatamy{think about it} and now its swollen and infected and PAINFUl {but I'll bet I don't have to tell you that}.  I would strongly suggest none of you do that, IT HURTS!!! Antibiotics and Ibuprofen for it, and TIME FOR IT TO HEAL.

WE need to quit smoking again too. I just havent made up my mind to. But the budget would rest easier if/no when we do.

Well, speaking of which, I have to go out and pick up cig butts in hte parkinglot, and HTink I'll have one while Im at it.

THen on to the rest of my work.....for the rest of my night, without my cell phone, grrr, I cannot watch videos.

HAve a great nihgt everybody. Sleep well, whilst I toil away here at work!

Special thoughts adn prayers for those in need.

I'm lost in this thread, here is another Ogden pic

I got up the courage to call my friend and she does have MS.  She used to be athletic with a good paying job and now is fatigued, weak, on social security and abandoned by all her friends as if it is contageous.  She is not in a wheel chair, but heat and stress worsen her symptoms.

She would like to do something to make some money, but her skills, nursing, is a part blue collar heavy lifting job and she can't do it.  She and her sister inherited her mothers dilapidated home and they don't have the money to get it in salable condition.   So the house sits vacant.

Ken Kidney infections can be deadly

GP crushed it?  ouch.  I can think of two different anatomic parts, I saw one broken by a baseball and the other broken in use.  Well I wasn't there during the breaking part, only the fixing part.  I don't think many of us need to be warned about breaking either.

I mist admit the UP bashing went a little far. My sincere apologies. I would like any UP fans to know that it was all done as a bit of a joke and was never intended to hurt the feelings of anyone.

I honestly am quite proud to be honoring the completion of the first “transcon” this month. I kind of wish we could talk more about the Central Pacific. It kind of vanished into obscurity after being leased by SP.

Of course I will never forgive UP for buying the WP...

GP35/Galaxy, yes I work front desk at the Y, I'm pretty good with customer service, there problem with the hotel is the following, my dad is currently the general manager because of that I am constantly under his shadow, I have put in for front desk and never got anywhere, my dad has decided to make a long overdue career decision and become a regional for corporate upon completion of his Certified Hotel Administrator course, not like he needs it, hes been at this for over 30 years, and he has a degree in Hotel/Restaurant management.

I have decided that my best move is to go out and find work on my own, there is another hotel the next town over, I know the people that own it, the wife comes in to the Y for Zumba twice a week, I have mentioned that I might be interested in coming to work for them, they know my dad and I have been learning about the hospitality industry my entire childhood.

Depending on what the golf course want I might look into weekends st a hotel, I told the golf course manager that I work at the Y 1-5 Tue-Fri which makes it a little hard to get a good shift elsewhere, he said they'd be willing to work around that if need be, I also put in an application at a CVS store and BREC Parks for Park Attendant.

A buddy of mine suggested Walmart due to their high starting wage, over 10 bucks an hour, when I mentioned this to my mother she just about flipped, she said that if I go to work at Walmart I can move out, since I probably wouldn't be able to afford rent on my own I am inclined to listen to her. Not sure why she doesn't want me to work at Walmart but oh well.

Henry sorry to hear about your friend, my mom has Spondylthesis (<probably not spelt right) of her lower spine, basically one if her vertebra has shifted and is pinching her spinal cord, this causes much back pain and has caused her to be pretty much wheelchair bound at 45, eventually this will take away all lower body motor functions, two doctors later and basically theres no treatment plan, the first decided that spinal injections were in order but not covered by insurance, and at 1000 dollars an injection it's not exactly cost effective, after and only after three injections spaced 6 months apart would they do surgery, even then they would've just fused her spine, my parents got fed up and went to the best spine doctor in our area, his conclusion was that physical therapy is the solution, but at 100 dollars a visit and again not covered by insurance she could only go every few weeks not multiple times a week as the doctor suggested, so now it's kinda a stand still, she has been prescribed painkillers but doesn't take them but on the worst of days due to fear of getting "hooked" and even when she does take them she cant really walk, it's sad to think in less than 2 years she went from very mobile to wheelchair bound.

Anyways back to the original topic, yes galaxy I have considered hotel front desk.

Steven,

Sorry to hear about your mom's back problems. Back pain is not fun!

I wonder why the surgeons have not suggested fusion? Maybe they don't want to risk moving the vertebra in case it does further damage to the nerves.

Wish her well for us.

Dave

That's good to hear, Ken — Game is on!

I'll dust her off alright, just be sure you want the Chessie Steam Special paint. You might get tired of seeing that big kitty-kat on the tender all the time Confused

I went to the dentist for my semi-annual cleaning and checkup Tuesday. All good — that is, until I bit into an English Muffin yesterday morning. Sure enough, broke the whole side off my upper first bicuspid (#4).

So much for "preventative dentistry" I went in later in the afternoon, thankfully they had a cancellation, and now have a temporary "Crown" (NOT the kind of Crown I wanted, Ken!) I'm sure the crack was there for a long time, somehow the cleaning must have shaken something loose.

Galaxy, your story about Cuddles choked me up. I really get attached to pets, too.

One day last week Otis was following me around while on my walk. We came across old Floyd's resting place. Otis jumped six inches off the ground when he spotted the monument (a gift from my wife) I took the picture when he was regaining his courage to step in closer.  Otis is a big scaredy-cat!

 Otis-Floyd by Edmund, on Flickr

Was 82° [28] yesterday — high tomorrow? 60° [15.5] and more rain. Time for Trains!

Does anyone else here buy from MB Klein, Modeltrainstuff? I see they began some kind of rewards program now. I've already got $20 off my next purchase or I can accumulate it. I'll have to read the details.

Good morning...

Ken ... A big Bow to you for Day One with smoking zero cigs.... Glad you agree good natured kidding is okay. We have fun in the diner. For years, Diners have been razzing each other. I would be surprised if anyone thought that was offensive.

SPSOT.... I don't think there is problem kidding about UP. Nice of you to say what you did though.

GP35 Galaxy ... Good seeing you.

Ed ..... Funny about Otis being afraid of the monument.

Harrison.... Great photos.

I also hit up the hobby shop with the Erie caboose in the parking lot, although the train selection was rather disappoointing, the shelves were quite bare. I got a couple of Bowser kits and the current issue of RMC, that was about it.

I'm not big on modern railroading so I didn;t explore the tracks I saw. Driving over I could see where the big yard is though. Something not to be missed is the Naval and Military Park, there are lots of nice displays plus 3 ships, Fletcher class destroyer USS The Sullivans (named for the brothers), guided missile cruise USS Little Rock, and submarine USS Croaker you can walk through. Neat stuff, even if not train-related (though the Croaker has 16-248 EMD diesels).

                                         --Randy

Yeah, not surprised.  That hobby shop was getting actually getting ready to close up.  They went out of buisness in October of 2017, I think.  They had been just selling through for the past year or so.  They were awesome in their heyday though, but now we only have 2 LHS's left, and only one really deals with model railroad items.  The other's primarily an RC and electronics outfit.

And yeah, the Military Park is a great place to visit.  One of my favorite local attractions.

I came across an old map of the yards that used to be in Buffalo around the 20's and 30's... Man, there was one of everything around here.  NYC, PRR, NKP, Erie, LV, DL&W....

Really something to see.

OK, thanks MLC, testing:  It's 43......nope, not working, your kidding me, right? Laugh  After I typed 43, I did what you said, Alt-0176-release Alt.  Nope.

By the way, that Farmall C is a pretty small tractor for all that equipment, aint it?  Laugh, now if it was an M or a Super M, OK.

Mike.

EDIT:  OK, trying what WLR says, using number on the right side: It's 43° !

OK, bingo, that works,   I wondered what the number key pad on the right was for.  Now we'll see how long I can remember that!  Laugh

For those who use a Mac (like we have here at work), the degree symbol is shift-option-8. Today in southeast Wisconsin, it's gray, foggy, drizzly, and 39°.

Here's today's lunch special: chicken pot pie soup. It's not particularly Utahn, but it will warm you up.

And when you're done with that, celebrate the Transcontinental Railway's completion with a Golden Spike.

2 ounces Buffalo Trace bourbon
1/2 ounce Nonino Amaro (an Italian herbal liqueur typically served as a post-dinner digestif)
1/2 ounce Carpano Antica (a premium red vermouth)
Dash each of Angostura-brand Orange Bitters and Aromatics

Stir and serve on the rocks in a tumbler, and garnish with an orange peel

It's about 40° out this morning -- perfect for the morning walk.  We finally have a completely clear sky and judging by the sound, the birds appreciate it, too.

GeePee35
I am once again at work. Forgot my cell phone, going through withdrawal, lol.

I was required to carry a cell phone each day (which they paid for).  When I retired, I gave up the phone, and I can safely say I have not had a single day where I missed it.  Anyone who needs to get ahold of me can wait until I get home to answer my ancient landline.

Of course, my wife complains because I also can go places where she can't call me to bring something home.

My layout is completely filled with those yeller things, and I don't take any offense.  I can't help it that some people are jealous of the great-looking yeller E9 A & B units pulling an entire yeller City of Los Angeles around the layout.

For the several people quitting or considering quitting the habit, keep at it.  If I could do it, you can, too!  We're all pulling for you.  If you backslide, don't get discouraged, just keep at it.

GeePee 35, when I read your post, my toes curled just thinking about what you are going through.   "I would strongly suggest none of you do that, IT HURTS!!!"  Don't worry -- I will do everything possible to avoid that!

Moelarrycurly4 - hope your day gets better.

Another rough day of retirement.  Nothing to do but work on the layout, take a nap, and walk the dog.  It's tough, but I'll bear it.

So are your yellow things clean or dirty! Big Smile

I personally will only be jealous of Lowey green and yellow bloadstripe/fourstripe things, and may be some Empire Builder orange, if I’m in the mood. (Big sky blue too?...)

In all honesty yellow things are impressive. The SP&S did borrow so weird yellow borrowed stuff on excursions (of which they ran a lot), so someday I may need to acquire a few... I will likely make them prototypically dirty!

Nah....  Farmall C can handle a square bale baler as long as it has it's own Wisconsin engine on board.  No problem at all with the "honey wagon"....  I have done both of those jobs with an Alice Chalmers C which is about the same size with no problem.  LOL  One of the reasons I am now deaf is that back then neither of the engines on boartd had something called a muffler. Yep....  Just one more reason I like the Mac.  So many things are just easier.  Oh, BTW, on the mac, shift option 8 is indeed °, option 8 is •, and shift 8 is *.  Many, many more easy short cuts as well...  yeah I know PCs do some stuff like that too....  I just like the Mac for page layout (InDesign), photowork (Photoshop), and some other things.  Mostly just because.......

Very true Ray, but MLC is talking about them all hooked up together.  Could make for some messy hay bales, depending on the order of lash up!  Surprise

A quick change in subject, it's lunch time, and I read that Crown Burgers are big in Utah.

If that's your sorta thing!

So at work we are just now starting to deploy Win 10 . we have a custom image that we put on the machines, our imaging process used to be fairly automatic, until win 10. Now we have to babysit them and press F3 or F1 every so often to make it do some background magic with the encryption being placed on the drive. Well it already takes a machine an hour and a half to finish our custom image. If you miss pressing an F3 or f1 , the machine just sits until you do and will time out if you sit too long and you must start over, that makes you that much further behind. So me and my lazy ways got tired of having to baby sit these machines. So I programmed and arduino pro micro( that I use to make crossing flashers flash) to press f3 and f1 every 2 minutes. I just plug it in to the USB set the image and walk away. later I get an email saying " done" I never have to touch them. So now the boss has ordered 25 of these so we can all image with out having to baby sit machines. Next up these will be going corp wide as the other hospital field teams find out about them. we are having to replace over 2k PCs just in our facility alone, and having to baby sit 2k pc is the pits. See model railroading helps with work.

Well....  Then you would at least need a Farmall H or maybe an Alice Chalmers WD 45.  Maybe a Ford 861 Powermaster even... Smile, Wink & Grin  Minimum!

Dumb question:  how do you get the little degree thingy?  I don't see that on the key board?

Hi, Mike

I use the "Alt Code" method. There are charts online that show the symbol you want then, where you want to place the symbol you hold down the Alt key next to the spacebar then type in the number of the code.

¿ ¢ Ω ® ƒ ¶  —for example.

https://www.alt-codes.net/

Some sites have printable .pdf charts for easy lookup.

Cheers, Ed

Cudaken

Mild to moderate kidney infections.  Not much of a problem.  When in trouble you have to give your body what it needs.

In a juicer,  you need to have a juicer.

Two beats, four carrots, two apples and a lime.  Juice it in your juicer and drink it.

Second on the list.  Eat asparagus with your meal.  Another miracle body cleanser.

Third on your list.  Organic cranberry juice.

Too potent and too tart to drink alone.   You have to mix it with two parts water to one cranberry juice.  It still won't taste very good but it'll cure what ails you.

Follow those three recommendations and you'll be cured before you even know it.

Always worked well for me.
