I don't know that Stephen needs to start saving now, but it is important advice and it won't be too long before he should be doing that.
Ken I am not laughing. Throat warts are not my field and I've never seen one. However it is an HPV infection. That is not rare. It is an acronym for a virus with a long name that includes 200 different viruses. It can be just a wart, or cause Michael Douglas, Farrah Fawcett problems. I would ask you wife's doctor if she can be infectious to you and what happens if the wart doesn't go away on it's own.
More advice for Stephen, you are the only one young enough here to benefit from the vaccine for HPV.
Around here, the grocery store shelves look like Hawaii if 3" of snow is in the forecast. I believe Mormons believe in stocking 3 months of supplies. I've read that in a book by a guy named Andrew Tobias and a friend of mine whose ex-wife was a Mormon explained the boxes of dried food in house that way.
In the US there are also "Preppers" who lay in supplies of food for some sort of political armagedon. I have no idea how many preppers there really are, but there are no shortage of sites on the Internet. Too many Mad Max movies, in my opinion.

Ken, that man is truly a hero, thanks for posting the video. I wonder how many acts of such bravery pass into history known by few or none. I often wonder how I would perform under such conditions, I hope I never have to find out. A couple of nasty car accidents and industrial injuries that resulted in bad breaks of bones and some leakage of the red stuff is all I have had to deal with. Kinda like a bad day at the hockey arena, so no biggie.
Steven, don't forget to put 20% of everything you make away for retirement. The formula that you read about in many personal finance books is, spend 10% on yourself(that means trains) 20% on retirement savings and 70% on living expenses. The 70% determines if you are living within your means or not. If you live at home and don't need to use 70% for living expenses, then you put that towards saving for a house down the road. On one of those TV home reno shows, they said that average maintenance cost for a home were about $1.00 per sqft per year. The wife figures that is pretty accurate.

I hope Hawaii doesn't get nailed too hard by the Typhoon, I have probably been there somewhere between 30 and 40 times as it was a short hop and a quick getaway from Vancouver. Many a time I just got on a plane and went, renting a jeep at the airport and finding accommodation as well after I got there. We had direct flights to Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and Hawaii I didn't care where I ended up, it is all good.
It just boggles my mind when I see people lining up for gas and trying to buy bottled water when these things occur. I have about 300 litres of water on hand in those big blue camping jugs that get changed every four months, freeze-dried rations, enough for two weeks for the four of us, lots of canned food, batteries, generator and anything else we could need. I also keep the 280 litre water tank in the trailer full in the warmer months, but can't do that in the winter. The trailers propane tanks are always full. We can cook for weeks with those. I also have a little white gas stove I would use for backpacking trips.
Why do people line up at the last minute to buy all this stuff when they often have a weeks warning.
We are long overdue for a big earthquake. My Brother-in-law ( don't get me started on this guy) finally bought a decent generator after finally realizing I was tired of constantly coming to his rescue. He had it hooked up to his Natural Gas coming into the house so he wouldn't have to get off the couch to fill the gas tank. I reminded him that after an earthquake there would be no natural gas in the lines. He changed it back to regular gas. This guy doesn't think things through very often. Venting over.
Ed, those are beautiful loco's you had/have? The kids loved going to ride those when they were young. I remember the Mikado pulling us derailed once. I suggested we just lift it back on the rails and I got a funny look. The guy said it weighed 1600lbs. What do I know?
With all this reaper talk it reminded me of some of the great conversations we have here, on going to the great beyond. We have a large circle of friends and family in our lives. Some of these people are terrified of death while others don't give it a second thought.
I came to the conclusion and many seem to agree with me that those that have lived very full and/or exciting lives don't even think about it, while (the other extreme)those that have stayed in their mother's basement ( I know of a couple of these) their whole lives are terrified of dying. A few of our older family members grew up got a job or career, retired without ever having an interest in anything or doing anything adventurous. They have a real hard time dealing with the subject. Moral of the story, live life to the fullest.
The kid leaves for Ottawa in nine days. Another round of golf and a football game are on the agenda. Sure going to miss him but he has a great life going on and that makes me really happy.
Fall is in the air, time to start putting gardening tools away as I am done with that for another year.

Well I'm patiently waiting for my paycheck to clear so that I can spend it on trains.
I finally got a straight answer on the dimensions of that check valve I want to use as a load, it's 1.5" by 4.25" that's including the ummm I don't know the term but let's say the barbs.
So I figure it'll be just almost too wide.
I've gotta pay for that, the F45, SDP45, the flat car, supplies to do those projects and the parts for another coal gon.

We're still doing the Grim Reaper thing huh. My oldest daughter has always been way into dragons. She has some pretty Sinister Gothic looking ones. To each their own I guess.
I may have been a little off last night. Hump day at Cowboys with the boys. My cab ride home sure was cheaper than my bar and dinner bill.
Another light day today at work. My customer cancelled and went golfing so I went and did my service panel cabinet. I hit Menards at 8:00 and was done with my cabinet at 1:00. I'm liking these little jobs. I'm starting to think I'm going to gear towards the little jobs all the time.
Definitely an improvement.
I enjoy getting off early. Sometimes having time to do something you love is more enjoyable than making money. I've been passing the afternoon making some more bridge bents for my 5th Bridge of the Firth

I actually have two of the Preiser Grim Reapers. I bought one myself and later received one as a gift.
They are wide based and stand well by themselves, so I like to move them around periodically and let visitors discover them.

There is definitively a strong scent of Fall in the air and I don´t just mean the weather with the early morning fog and quite lower temperatures during the day, down to one-digit figures (in Celsius) at night. Fall is the time farmers prepare the soil for next years crop by spreading liquid manure and THAT has an unmistaken smell to it! Hopefully that part of Fall will be over soon and we go back to the more pleasant scent of log fires and the earthy smell of rotting leaves!
The postman again rang only once today, but brought a belated birthday present from my son. The little one (aged 31) sent me two HO scale VWs - a Beetle named "Herbie" and a "split-screen" Micro Bus, both diecast models made by Schuco.
They have already found their place on the layout!

BigDaddyThere is a live steam club that uses these rails, located in Baltimore in Leakin Park. I think this is their 7.5" gauge.
That brings back some memories, Henry. I was heavy into "Inch-and-a-half" back in the late 1980s, early '90s. We had quite a few tracks around northern Ohio back then and I had about a thousand feet in my own yard.
I never got into live steam but I did have a couple of gasoline powered diesels plus an electric GP-7 (golf cart deep cycle batteries).
Had a pair of F-7s that were pretty sharp!

I've done some eBay bidding, I've made an offer on a Athearn BB F45 and a SDP45 shell, I have a plan for them, I'm going to make a F45 Spartan Cab, and then maybe get DCC added and perhaps a custom paint job. I've also bid on a Walthers Heavy duty flat. AND I'm considering whether to buy the parts for another super gondola, I don't know yet.
So my current projects are F45 Spartan cab, heavy flat with "motor" load, and another 150 ton coal gondola.
Well that's about it.

I have already ordered the Grim Reaper from Preiser for the equivalent of $3. The ones I have seen from Reaper Miniatures are much more than that when painted.
You could opt for a female version of the Grim Reaper. This one is also made by Reaper Miniatures.

Citadel, Reaper, Marauder, and Games Workshop all make gaming figures of Grim Reapers. If you expand your search beyond railroad hobby shops you can find a good one cheap. They will be a little oversized, but hey, they are monsters. That Presier figure you showed is pretty lame looking.
Reapers are easy to paint. Coat in flat black and drybrush dark gray and you are done.
This one is Reaper Miniatures number 1600, but there are lots of them that look better than that Preiser figure.

Picture if you will a orthodontist office with an all female staff most of which are under 24 and 30 at the oldest, and being a pubescent teen boy having these girls poke around in your mouth and as Robert put it "cradle" you, that can lead to some awkward situations, but luckily I skated through with any such incident, but I'm sure it's happened.
Anyways off that topic.
Went to work and hurt my foot, I think I pulled a ligament, I had to lug curtain valences (fabric covered wood boxes) up the stairs, I did about a dozen pairs)
But in the bright side my paycheck will be a bit more respectible.
Lately I've been noticing that young females change thier behavior around me, case example, I was walking out of canes, and I was not dressed up by any means I was in work clothes, but anyways I'm heading to my truck and this high school girl is walking towards the door of vanes, she sees me and immediately takes her hair out of a pony tail and very dramatically let's it out, and that's just today's example. I guess that's what they call "flirting"
Anyway again,
I might start another KCS super gondola. Depends on my budget. That or buy a locomotive to get DCC/sound and custom painted into NWP SWP colors.
