"Contact Seller" button/box on Ebay item for sale?
Posted by railandsail on Friday, December 22, 2017 11:01 AM

Has anyone else been experiencing a problem with contacting a seller on eBay posted items?

There use to be a 'contact seller box' on the item's page, usually down towards the lower area of the first page of a listing. It has disappeared for me over the past month or so.

There was an item posted just recently that listed some defects, but as I looked thru the photos I thought I saw a few more defects that were originally listed. I wanted to ask the seller a question about this, BUT could not find a box/button/ whatever method to pose that question to the seller????

I just checked on an item I'm following.

For me, the "contact seller" thingy is in a box on the upper right called "seller information"

If you are watching the item, look on your watch list. Go to your watchlist or summary page. On the far right of the item there is a link that says 'More Actions', click on that and the link to 'contact seller' appears.

I noticed that a while ago eBay moved the Contact Seller button and in the app there is no such thing anywhere... sometimes companies claim to "update" their service or software but I've noticed it's almost always a "downgrade"...

It's in the box, on the right hand side, of the listing price, etc., right under the sellers name (ID) and feedback score.

Can't miss it, also in that box, you can save the seller, and visit the sellers store, if they have one, or see more items the seller has.

No, it's not at the bottom of the page anymore.

eBay on my PC doesn't always look like that. There is not always a box with seller information. Sometimes that information is on a single line above the the price and doesn't include the contact seller link. I just checked two different items and only one item had the box for seller information.

I didn't know that.  I use FireFox, and Windows 7 Proffesional.  When I use the wife's computer, with Windows 10, the only difference I see are the ads, and the way the sides of the page fills in.

I see the same thing Ed posted.  The only difference is that a picture of the item, will be on left, if there is a picture, sometimes the seller will post something like a kitty, or something, with "No picture available".

I simply cropped the page just to draw attention to the right side...

I could start a whole other thread on the subject of the re-formatting of web pages to satisfy all the people with their eye pads and twitter-boxes (smartphones to the rest of the world)

Now that I have a nice w-i-d-e screen monitor on my desktop, everything gets scrunched into the middle-third of the screen. What's up with that?

And all these people taking pictures that look like THIS

Same for me, I don't see that box that Ed displayed. I see the single line over the price, with no seller info??

Here is the item I was trying to find more info about,..

Can't you click the seller's name or feedback score and get to a "contact" page???

It really shouldn't be very difficult. I have dealt with TRAINZ many times and had very good results.

When I clicked on his feedback score I was able to find contact info.

....But that process was not so well defined as the previous version I was use to for YEARS. I don't know why it needed changing???

Its almost as though they were trying to hide it for some reason.....but who knows why ebay makes some of the changes they do

In this particular case the photos they provided were not to clear, or close enought to see the defects they claimed were there. I also noticed a stirup missing on the tender that was not mentioned in their description? And I wonder if the sound and dcc operations were really fully tested?

I agree! I cringe every time some company says they are going to make improvements for a "better customer experience". Run away very fast!

Ebay just "fixed" their feedback page, too. It stinks. I'm sure if I ask them to switch it back they'll do it right awayWhistling

Yes, since you mentioned it, that TRAINZ seller always seems to have his camera in the next room. I think I bought three items from him and they were OK. Your mileage may vary.

Again, like so many threads here about ebay, buyer beware.

I personally despise software programmers who change tried and true procedures purely because they think they are improving things. I think they are missing the point when a significant number of their users have a hard time figuring the changes out. If something becomes less obvious or gets hidden, then the software writers are accomplishing just the opposite IMHO.

Somebody needs to create a customer service app that measures frustration. Said app would record how many times a user attempted to navigate through the new format, and maybe even how hard the user was pounding on the keys, or how much they were drinking to try to maintain their sanity!!!!Bang HeadBang HeadBang HeadBang HeadCryingCryingAngryGrumpy. Unfortunately none of the emoticons can really express my feelings!

Merry Christmas everybody!!

When I encounter these frustrations, Dave, I always feel that there is an ulterior motive behind such "Improvements".

Witness the recent revelation by Apple that they really DO slow down older phones, something users have suspected for years and only recently, Apple admitted, yeah, maybe we do. Your phone is slow? Well, you need to upgrade to the new ZOOM Plus model!

Again, as I posted above, so many of these improvements are for the benefit of the new "Smartphone" crowd, which I'm no part of.

It will only get worse, I'm afraid. In the U.S. the FCC just voted to repeal "Internet Neutrality" and I feel this will ultimately cause suffering for the "end user" — us!

At least we have our trains!

Regards, Ed

Remember you should never assume conspiracy when the problem can be explained by mere incompetence.  Those guys are quite capable of screwing up a website without needing smartphones as an excuse.

Most folks who have a significant online presence do not use the same web pages for smartphones as they do for computers.  The site can tell if you're on a smartphone or a PC.  Smartphone users are redirected to a different page.  Even this forum has a different page for smartphones.  Folks like eBay and Amazon have apps for smartphones so their users don't see the page at all.  So in most cases the "Smartphone crowd" won't even see the stuff you're complaining about.

You could blame the extra work caused by duplicate development for distracting the programmers from putting the required effort into the website you use if you really want it to be the smartphone to be at fault for your inconvenience. Smile

I have the right to remain silent.  By posting here I have given up that right and accept that anything I say can and will be used as evidence to critique me.

That's a good quote, Carl!

Dare I even mention any of the "automatic critical updates" — especially those wonderful Windows 10 ones!

Just last week I was in the middle of a project using Photoshop and Premiere Elements and all of a sudden all the text disappeared from my menus!

Windows had rolled out their "Fall Creators Update" and for the next week my PC was functioning like it had brain damage.

Of course, Microsoft claims that nothing they did had any ill effects. Angel

Their response:

Sorry for the inconvenience.

This is a known issue with Windows 10 Creator update and Microsoft has released a new Windows 10 update KB4016240 (Build 15063.250) that attempts to fix most of the common issues faced by users who upgraded to Windows 10 Creators Update.

Please try installing this update and also clear preferences once before launching Editor. To do so,  keep Ctrl + Alt + Shift keys pressed while launching Editor.

You will be asked to delete settings file. Say yes.

Thanks,

Anwesha

I had to manually re-write several lines in the registry in order to restore some font cache. Took hours! Thank you Microsoft.

Happy Holidays, Ed

For some reason on eBay not all users get the same user profile box on their listings. It might have something to do with if they are a business or just a person. Anyway like I said some items have the box and some do not. But the best thing to do to contact them so they know which item you are referring to is to contact them from your watch page. Click the link for more actions by the item and you will see the contact seller option. When you contact a seller using this it will include the item so the seller will know exactly which item you have a question about.

I have a friend who has a train shop up over his gun shop. We have in the past discussed digging out a basement under his business location and installing a firing range,....for folks that wanted to bring in their misbehaving computers (and other electronic devices) and using them for targets

"I'm using Firefox and Win7 home edition."

I agree, too much stuff on computers is changed for no real reason - but it seems everyone using Windows 10 and some other browser (Microsoft Edge, Chrome) is not this having trouble - your link gave me the full user info on the right side......

Maybe it is time to just accept that upgrades are necessary for the best user experiance? Windows 7? Really? Trust me, that is your real problem right there.

I held on to Windows 8 too long, now glad I have Windows 10.

But what would I know, I just programed some of the first PLC's (program logic controllers - computers that run machines for ther uninformed) back in the 1980's.

Hard to keep up with the tech changes these days, and I only change stuff when necessary, but Windows 7 is a dinosaur....

Sheldon

PS - I looked at that listing a few days ago, whoever wins is welcome to it. First it is all beat up, at least by my standards. I have never delt with that seller, but I have big prejudice just by reading their listing. It may be unfair, but I would be reluctant to buy a "model train" from someone who uses the TCA standards to "grade" models - just me.

Yes, feel free to call me whatever names you like........

Unfortunately, the MR back issues DVD doesn't run on Windows 10.  So I'll be keeping my Windows 7 for as long as the machine holds out.

I also have to keep a Windows XP for the same reason for other software.  And my machine with Windows 95.

I only upgrade when I have to.  And by then I need new hardware as well.  Case in point, my current laptop is 6 years old.  So soon I will buy a new machine and get Windows 10 - oh joySigh

That may all be very true, but here is what I hate - I don't use a smart phone, I have a flip phone and a Samsung Tablet. The "mobile" versions of most sites "suck", and half of them don't work right on the tablet (I have yet to get the mobile version of this forum to work on my tablet) yet many sites continue to try to put me on their mobile versions even though the full web versions work great.

My chubby fingers can't type on a smart phone and my old eyes can't read them without my glasses (which are only readers for mild Presbypia, I am 60 and otherwise my vision is 20/20), so you can keep your smart phones.

But I seldom use the tablet at home, I would much rather use my desk top......I hate touch screens......and Windows 10 has had way more positives than negatives for me......why lookat a 9" screen when I can look at 24" screen?

Paul, I'm the king of keeping hardware a long time, I have made a number of machines last 8-10 years.

But part of that trick is buying way more than you need when you do buy a new one and keeping it as up to date as possible. I always buy the biggest, fastest, latest when I do upgrade.

I never bought the MR DVD, I have complete MR in print back to about 1955 and spotty back into the late 30's. But I do subscribe to the online index as well. It is now built into the print subscription so why not?

I don't know what your other software needs/issues are, but all those operating systems eventually gave me problems.

Here is what I don't do, I don't have a house full of old machines for specific purposes. I have a desktop and a tablet I use for travel/job site. My wife has a lap top. That's it.

It is a bit odd that one of the biggest marketing factor for laptops is screen size, and computing speed, yet making sites mobile friendly is a big push for the internet shops.  Mobile devices are the opposite of speed and size.

As if the consumer is broken up into two segments, those who browse at their desks, and those who browse everywhere else.

My ebay screen on Chrome has the traditional seller info in the upper right as shown.

I think that is exactly how it is. No one carries a laptop around any more except for business travelers setting up power points at meetings.........

Laptops have become the desktop for many - like my wfe. She keeps it in the TV room and uses it while watching TV.

I only bought a tablet for the following reasons:

It has a text message app linked to my flip phone

It runs a navagation app in my truck (I would have had to pay $6000 more for a truck with built in navagation and a bunch of other stuff I did not want - I actually prefer the built in navagation in our car)

I NEED the web and Email on the job site in my work as a construction manager

Otherwise I can do without the tablet, and I am quick to not have the cell phone on me at home when I don't want to be bothered (we still have a land line, its free with the fiber internet and TV).

But many younger people see the smart phone and/or tablet as a replacement for the laptop or desktop.

I need a phone and the tablet, but I WANT a desktop.....for its speed, big screen, ease of use.......

The MR backissues DVD runs fine on my laptop with Windows 10. Perhaps it is because I loaded it back when I was running Windows 7 and the did the online upgrade to Win 10? I am getting ready to buy a new laptop and it will be interesting to see if the DVD will load and run on it.

One thing I've noticed with my machines running Win10 is that the one which originally had XP and I later upgraded to Windows 7 and then to 10 seems to run many of my "Legacy" programs with no issues.

The other two machines had Win10 loaded on them from the start and I have problems installing older programs on them.

Just a casual observation...

On a similar note, I have documents on my computer that go way back to MS Works - on Windows 7 and 8 they required a special "patch" from Microsoft that often had to be reinstalled with each update or change.

But all my old Works Docs converted automaticly with Windows 10..........
