I was thinking about Imgur for posting some pictures. But I'm not sure since I don't have all those fancy apps and stuff.

I started using Imgur, and am slowly updating my posted projects since they still get quite a few views.  So far so good!

I got another e-mail today from Photobucket today talking about how their new pricing is so competitive.Laugh

I decided to go with Imgur, and so far I'm very happy with it. After getting it on my Windows laptop, I downloaded the APP on my IPhone. It's so easy to get photos uploaded & then download them onto a forum. Compared with PhotoBucket, it's so much faster  & far more efficient. I always had to jump through hoops & wait literally minutes to get any one step completed. I will never understand how PhotoBucket thought I would pay $400.00 for all the aggravation involved in using their site.

Is anyone else having issues posting their Photobucket images to the forums? When I try to, I get a message stating that I must upgrade my Photobucket account to their Plus 500 level in order to share my pictures to 3rd party sites, i.e. Photobucket. I checked into it, and it costs $399.99 a year, and that's the ONLY option. I'll pass.

I've since opened an account with imgbb.com

Welcome to the party!   Yes, there has been more bandwidth consumed complaining about it for the past few weeks than the photo's themselves used.  It's going to be a lot of work for me to rehost my photo's too.  I've created a new host account but havne't migrated my photo's yet.  Time time time.

Surprised the OP missed the discussion in General Discussions.

Flogging the dead horse now.

Just Google photobucket news.

In many forums.

ATSFGuy ..... I suggest you read the first 20 or so posts in this thread to see most Photo Bucket users are are getting a shake down from Photo Bucket.... It is like a ransom. Photo Bucket is blocking photos that have been posted for a very long time until their customers pay an excessive fee.

Everybody .... I think it would be good if we could summarize the basics of using the alternative photo hosts. It would be good to have a reference so new members of the MR forum will know what to do in the future.

Steven and Tom ... Thanks for keeping this thread alive.  It has been constructive.

It would be good in my opinion to have a summary of each one of the altenatives in the "How to Post Photos" thread for reference.

Sorry I missed the discussion in General Discussions. I didn't realize it had been posted, but since I don't check the forums every day, it was easy to miss.

You don't have to check the forums every day, even if you check the general section every few days it was hard to miss.  The same topic on MRH forums is longer than long and been going on for a couple weeks now.

Hi guys......

My sincere "Thank you" to those that have been posting feedback regarding options for those of us searching for a "no frills" photo hosting site.

So far FLIKR and IMGUR are looking good and I'll likely be uploading photos to one of them very soon. Looking forward to posting some "test" shots on this forum.

I tried Google Photo and some could see the pictures and some couldn’t.  I think it depends on if you have a Google Account.  I could see the picture on all of our computers but one of my kids without a Google Account couldn’t.  Google Photo has a one liner that says they do not support 3rd party hosting any longer.

I’ve been using a Google Blogger page from my Blog as a host and that works.

OK, I'm going through a (hopefully) short learning curve.

Test: Can you see the image of an E6 with four metalized passenger cars?

Threads merged.

Before you post on this already lengthy thread, please read it all to make sure what you're going to add hasn't been said a dozen times already.

And if you want to test your photo-posting capabilities, please do so in the Trains.com Forum Testing area, not here. Thanks.

Rich, Garry,

Thanks! Trying out IMGUR. The basic format for posting photos seems vaguely similar to PB.

Imgur is pretty easy to use. However, I don't see instructions on how to create individual photo albums.

Would appreciate any tips.

Thanks!Big Smile

I just started using Amazon Prime photo storage' Very easy' just download your images and copy and paste any where. Yes you have to have Prime but free 2 day shipping and movie downloads plus ton of other features make it worth the $99 yearly rate.

NittanyLion

Just go with imgur. It was specifically designed for hosting images to be used on third party sites.

I'm just reading thru this discussion, so I may make some comments as I go along.

My question here is how long is Imgur going to be around? Are they going to suddenly disappear (along with all the photos) in a few years down the road??

How about this one,...recommended a short while back??

Hi Brian,

I too lost my photos with the changes at Photobucket. However, I save all of my photos on my computer with a backup on an external hard drive. I just used Photobucket to host the pictures to be able to post them on the forum. The same with imgr which I am now using.

Good luck

I do the same.  All of my pictures are either on my computer, and/or moved to, and stored on an external hard drive.

So far, with just the cheap "ad free" version of PB, I've had no problems.  If PB blew up tomorrow, I would not "lose" any pictures.  I have them all.

You mean like Netscape, Napster, Visicalc and Wordperfect?  My crystal ball is out for repair, but a business model where a company supplies free online storage is not a great idea for getting rich.

For things I really want to keep I have an external hard drive and paid on line storage backup in case my house burns down.  Not every pic I post in this forum is something I want to keep forever so I don't view any of the free sites as permanent storage.

The point I was trying to make is that none of my pictures are "stored" on PB.  I use PB simply as a way to show pictures on forums, like this one and a couple of others, that require your pics to be on a photo hosting site.

ALL of my pictures are on my computer, and moved to, and stored on those small "jump drives", or a seperate disk drive.

It doesn't matter what happens to any of the photo hosting sites, free or paid, your not storing your pictures there.  You have put copies of them in there to show on other sites and forums.

Maybe all of this bashing and rehashing of photo hosting sites has me confused, are you looking for a storage place other than your own computer and seperate drive devices? or are you looking for a place to keep copies of them so you can post them on other sites and forums? which is what the hosting sites are all about.
