Good Morning,

Can't believe I'm up at 5:30 but I have to be out of the house in an hour for our Birding and Breakfast. I get to try out my new bins today.

Garry, sorry to hear about your mother.

I had an eventful day on Monday as I had an MRI so the doc can have a better look at my prostate. It was a strange experience to say the least but not unpleasant. It cost me $9, for parking.

I have actually finished the Dairy Queen and have it placed on the layout. I just have to mix up some paving for the lot and do some finishing.  I also got the Northern off its storage track beside the engine house as I plan on running a bit. It sure is a lovely site, just wish I had a big enough layout to do it justice.

Well time to get ready to go, the birds are waiting.

Morning all

Another rainy day in Northern Virginia Storm Umbrella day 19 of rain out of the last 21 days. My daughter had some blood work performed and the test is just to rule out a problem that they do not beleive is the problem. Short answer is they just do not know. I have found that medicine has come a very long ways in the last fifty years there is a whole lot they just do not understand yet. Interestingly we were talking with some mothers of on my daughters sports team and a surprising number of women told us they expierenced something very similiar when they were young and the doctors never found out the cause. I think three women told us this. One said it took six months for the symptons to go away.

Garry - We are sending a whole bunch of prayers for you and yours.Angel

CN Charlie - $9 parking ! Wow do they at least wash the exterior for that too ? Hope you get good news from the docs.

Ken - Okay just let me know what you want to work out on the B&O hoppers. They are very nice ones !

Ricky - What cars did you pick up this past week ?

Howmus - Hair and lawn cut ? If it ever stops raining here hopefully I can get my lawn cut too. Hair ? Not that much to cut these days Big Smile . Not that much left after kids, w**k and lawn mower engines Whistling Good luck on the MLK event

Angel - I find that surprising that MRC is not better than that. They have been in the industry for years. One would think they would actively work out the kinks and make their product better. I read an article about Henry ford who wanted to get into the tractor business. The article said he built 50 prototypes before he started Fordson (sp? ) tractors. He was commited to a good product and actually used the prototypes on his farm to test them out before he put it on the market.

Ulrich - How is your shoulder ? Injections helping ?

Hello to everyone else - JaBear, Jeremy, V8 Vega, Reinhard, DER....

Gotta git back to w**k

Good morning!  And it is, with the temperature in the low 60s already and a bright blue sky.  I played hockey last night and I'm beat.  The coffee is slowly doing its thing, though.

Ray, your story reminded me of what was a frequent occurance where I used to work - over-response to minor incidents.  Our facility had a safety record that corporate loved to brag about, but face it, it was just an office building, a cube farm.  Tough to get hurt even if you tried.  We did have a health club, though, and every so often one of us old gray guys would push it a bit too hard or start a workout without enough fuel in his body, feel light-headed and even pass out.  The typical response was 2 police cars, 2 ambulances and a full-sized fire truck.  For one guy in gym shorts and a T-shirt.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I just need a refill for my Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast Coffee please...

The tree surgeon hasn't shown up yet to cut down the two trees in my neighbors back yard.  I will have to leave before 1:30 to get to my doctor's appoinment.  Hope he doesn't show up about the same time I am walking into the medical center across town...... My son showed up to borrow my old  spud bar to dig a hole in his yard for a tree they are going to plant in a raised bed that they had a tree removed from a few years ago.... He wanted to know how many generations that hunk if steel had been in the family.  I told him I inherited it from my father who inherited it from his father.  Don't know if it goes back another generation or two.

Need to get moving...  Prayers for all of you in need!

My BP just went down into the basement and shows no sign of wanting to come back up again. My heart rate is at 100, my vision is blurred and I am beginning to get a big headache. If that´s not improving within the next 10 minutes, I am off to the ER.

Good Afternoon Diners,

Flo, I'll have an extra large coffee with lots of cream, please.

Garry, YGW:  I understand you have family members with major health issues.  I sincerely hope everything turns out ok and they recover back to full health.

Ulrich:  I hope you get better Quickly.

Saw an article on the first Bauhaus structure.  It was built in Weimar around 1923.  If I remember correctly, that was around the time of the "Bier hall putsch."  Bauhaus was a very avant garde art movement at the time.  Here in the US, we had the arts and crafts (mission) style and the Amish/ Shaker styles, but there was nothing else even close to Bauhaus.  Quite revolutionary.

Love to talk more, but have to get back to work.

Hello to all, and I hope everyone is ok, safe, and warm.

Less is more,...more or less!

Afternoon all.

Garry, so sorry about your mom.

YGW, I picked up a NS covered hopper Acurail kit, and two old BB cars, one covered hopper, one 60ft DD Box. The two BB cars will be more heavily weathered than the Acurail hopper will get. The two BB cars will be heavily faded, and possible patch for reporting marks, as they are in old EL paint, but modern enough build date for my layout. (Close to end on the one, having 5 years, so nearing either rebuild or scrapping, the other would still have another 10 years.)

Cudaken, Sounds like the time I ad a customer expect us to fit a 60" TV inside a Beetle.... Just wasn't gonna happen! Some people just expect anything to fit in a dinky car.

Well, my schedule changed, so I will just get a order of Barry burger and fries, to go Flo. Back to work for me... Tux orders came in, and the store manager is having issues with her eyes today.

Later all.

but have to get back to work.

Hey!  No nasty four letter words allowed here in the Diner!!! Whistling

Afternoon....  Chloe a cup of decaf to tide me over to dinner would be great.  Dinner will be Prime Rib au jus, a thrice baked potato, and some vegies, with some kind of fancy tart for dessert...

I just got home from the Doctor's office and have a few minutes before I put on the "Sunday, Go To Meeting" clothes for the dinner.  Doc says i am completely healthy and all the blood work was excellent!  He said I have lost 12 lbs. over the last year and I seem to be doing everything right.  Total cholesterol was 136 with the Cholesterol/HDL Ratio at 3.00.  That puts me in the considerably less than half average risk for heart disease group.  My A1C was 5.9 (they want it under 7.0 for a diabetic to be considered "well controlled"), the 12 hour fast blood sugar was 112.  Only item that was higher than it should be was my Uric Acid...  So what else is new.  At least this year I don't have any home grown asparagus to pig out on and cause a gout attack.....

Time for me to get dressed for the big event and head over to the college Dining building.  We hold the dinner in the fancy-dancy big ballroom on the second floor with all the electronics stuff.

Catch you all later (probably tomorrow, but maybe after the event if I can still keep my eyes open...).  Prayers for those in need!

Good afternoon, all.

Garry, Sorry to hear about your mother. Praying for you ane your family.

YGW, how is the mud situation with 19 of 21 days of rain.  It was another gloomy, wet day in the mid-Ohio River valley today.  From the weather channel, it appears that some clear, sunny weather may get here next week.

Mr. Beasley, your comments on safety performance in a cube farm hit home.  I worked in industrial plants where the safety performance truly was the difference between real serious injuries and good health.  The comments about people in the health/wellness center receiving full emergency services for light headedness are interesting.  Our own community seems to have sorted out the priorities and only sends an ambulence with a team of EMT'S.  I have been in other communities that provide service as you described with ambulence, fire trucks and squad cars.

Did a little work on leveling the new section of road bed to the exisitng road bed.  I surface the homesote with joint compound to fill in cracks between joints and to level up the surface as it appeared the two pieces of homesote were about 1/8 inch off level.  Probably partially due to one section being exposed to high humidity for the past couple of months and the other section being fully primed on all sides and installed during very dry winter weather.

Time to feed my dog and get out for the afternoon walk.

Jim

 Afternoon Folks

Flo, Barry Buger and Beer Please.

Hope Ulrich is all right! Dang I sure hope he gets better soon! Angel

Fence Front Got my first written bid today for $2600.00 for 86 feet of fences. That is just for one side next to the pool, then a L shape to the house with a 5 foot gate. I was not shocked at the prices, about what I expceted in fact. If I cut down what is left of the old fence that will save me $300.00. While I have the credit to get it done I need check to see what the payments would be.

I am waitting on the second bid. I rather use this company if I can swing it. Owner him self came out to give the bid. (First one the guy was a salesman so he is making something off the deal) Only thing aginst the bid, is he does not do credit cards. But, he done work for some friends of mine so I trust him.

Well going to try to format the new computer so later.

Ken

I urge you to solicite more bids. $2600 for 86 feet is very pricy. The fence should go for around $15 dollars a foot. Gate will be more.

Uncle Bob  Galaxy vanished about a month ago

Ulrich Oh my.  I'm convinced some of our drugs act differently on some days.  I check my BP before I take my carvedilol, otherwise at around 11 am I am dizzy and my heart rate is trying to break 40 to the down side.

Garry my sympathies for you mom.  Fractures in the elderly are devastating.

On the train front the wiring works.  You can read about my adventures in DCC decoder in the 'lectric forum.  The LHS had some Woodland Scenics and Testors rail weathering pens.  I bought the testors rail brown, tie brown and rust for the same price as one WS pen.  Plus WS's description of "steel" was non existant.

The rail brown is going to take a couple passes.  The rust is about as faint a rust color you could imagine and not be clear, and that is on a white piece of paper.

Yawn.......!!!!  Stretch.............!!!

Oh, wow...  Zoe, I need a 30 cup urn of Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast coffee (make it strobg!) a couple sour cream glazed donuts, and a pillow....  OK, OK, I'll be sitting at the back booth for a couple hours while I try to wake up.

Uncle Bob, Galaxy has been MIA since April 7 I believe.  I have been trying to get info on what might have happened but so far have drawn a blank. This is the longest he has been away from here that I know of, and many are very worried about him.

MLK Scholarship Dinner was great last night.  We had a packed room for the event.  There was a special announcement by a gentleman who grew up in Geneva and is head of an agency in New York city that works with Playwrights.  Their group is sponsoring three new theater plays that will be first performed here in Geneva.  One in each of three locations in the city.  They will have to do with Civil Rights and Community in the 21st. Century.  A lot of it will have to do with people accepting and working with all people.  He got chocked up when he looked around at who was in attendence at the Dinner.  He stopped for a moment, caught his breath and said, "I see that is already happening here...."

I was introduced as a member of the committee and was called "Our McGiver person on the committee."  At the end of the evening we got photos of both this years group of Scholarship Recipients and a few with all the people in the room who were present or past Recipients of the award.  At that time the president of the committee told everyone who wanted to they could come and take pictures, but not to get in the way of the resident professional photographer and pointed to me.  I promptly stood up, turned around, and said in a loud voice, "Where?" Drew some major laughs....  I told several people the biggest thing I had learned from the professionals I know is that if you take a huge amount of photos you actually might get a few good ones...  I may post a couple later.

I got to see my favorite student from my first year teaching in Geneva.  Her niece was getting a scholarship..  I was walking around taking some photos of folks at the tables and she looked up and flashed me a huge grin and said, Mr Howard!  Do you remember Me?  I said yes, I think your name is, and said her name, then told her she was one of the best sopranos in chorus in seventh grade.  That made her day.  She was also a very good friend of my youngest son.  She has turned into a very beautiful woman.  She told me she was getting old.  I assured her she was still young! Smile, Wink & Grin (She is now in her mid 40's.)

I guess I have run on too long...  Still haven't quite woken up.  Off to the shower!  Catch you all later.

Good morning diners,

Sorry about your mom, Garry.

I been a little busy playing Batman Arkham Knight again. It's a little frustrating redoing it.

My brother took a three day trip with his girlfriend. I don't know the details, we barely talk.

Good evening all ! Lunch anyone ? There has been something very strange here in Va. It has folks very concerned. There is some talk of an alien orb in the sky ! It just floats there slowly ,moving east to west. I think they are mistaken ! It cannot be an alien. If I were an alien popping in to check on this civilaztion I would leave in a hurry ! It cannot be a Greek or Roman God everyone knows that that is a fable  made up up by ignorant ancient men. It cannot be Jesus coming back ! The bible says it is not yet time, at least I think its not time ??? What could it be ? Its WHAT ? Its the sun ! Oh really ??!! I had forgotten what it looks like Surprise Cool Nice !!!!

Angel - Sounds like your brother not talking to you bothers you. Is it because he is just into his GF to much ? Other reasons ?

Howmus - Aspargus causes Gout ? I didnt know that or would have even suspected that. Amazing

Henry - Testors makes a rusty rail pen ? Hmm intersting.

Jim - I am here Big Smile Yes the Mud has been - ummm deep ! But know we may have some sun shine for a few days and hopefully it will dry out some.

Uncle Bob. Yes Galaxy has been gone a while. Sure hope he is okay.

Ricky W - You are into NS ? Nice ! Just curious. Why are you weathering the BB more than the accurail ?

UP831 - HI !!! Glad you popped in. Are you a fan of Baulaus ? I remember building early in my career building of that type. Not really a fan. Nothing wrong with I just love the old Williamsburg style of building and detailing much better.

Garry - sending up another Angel for you and yours.

Reinhard - I responded to your email

Ken - You really should price out some more people on the fence. That price is pretty steep. It can be had for less. Wished I lived closer I would bring some friends and we would fix you up. Can you call or PM me on the B&O hoppers ?

Hello to everyone else - Lion, V8, DER, Mr. B, CN Charlie....

Hear the train whistle time to git back to w**k

YGW - Yes, you are correct, I did not recognize that object beaming warmth to IAD this afternoon.  It is possible that my work shoes may dry out.  Read your PM, will respond soon.

 Afternoon Dinners

Flo, Barry Buger and Beer please.

Wasted a lot of time today because of Stuipd stuff that was my fault! 1 Went to Lowes to return the lumber I bought that was the wrong sizes. I forgot my wallet? Bang Head So I had to take the roof rack off my car (cannot be driven with it on with out a laod) go home, get my wallet and go back to Lowes. Exchanged the lumber for the correct sizes, set up the roof rack and got the new lumber on it. Setting up the roof rack by it self takes about 10 minutes.

2 With the lumber on the roof I went to my friend Bob's shop to dump the trash. Then went home to unload the lumber.

3 When I got home, I saw the left front tire was low! Bang Head So I went to air up the tire, saw the plug Bob installed in the tire was leaking.

4 So back to Bob's! By that time the plug had stopped leaking? Whistling  Ordered a new tire and got home.

Sad thing I was having a good day as far as how I was feeling. But I still got somethings done! Got the new lumber set up for spray painting. Dragged some stuff around to the front yard and cleaned out some of the gutters that where, lets just say could have flowers planted in them! Weeds where doing well!

YGW Thanks on the tip of about how much it should cost per foot. Company I was hopping to use just said they don't want to do wood any longer. I have some one from Lowes coming next Thursday to give a bid.

All so going to try paying my son-in-law to help. I was going to hire someone from Cragis List to help $15.00 a hour to help. Rather pay Shaw $15.00 a hour to drag stuff out and $20.00 a hour to help with the fence.

Newer Computer front. While it was a pain in the caboose I finally (with help from Paul over the phone) and got it booted. It is much faster than the one I am on now, loaded XP Pro in about 15 minutes. Now if I can find my Words CD I good to go.

 Later Ken

To answer your question YGW, we communicate together with tv show quotations, like South Park and other shows. We also talk about superheroes, star wars like batman and superman. But it comes down to other stuff in life, I'm the one like an open book since I tell them everything.

Good Morning Diners.

Flo, I will do the Barry Burger and Fries, with a Coke please.

W**k later, but am getting ready to go fire up the airbrush, as it is 69F outside, bright sun, little wind. (As close to perfect as I can get right now for airbrushing.)

Did 45 of 52 Tux's, between all of us, past two days. Wednesday the wait time was over 1 hour just to pick-up!!!! (They must try on in store, we must inspect fit, before they may leave with their Tux.) We had more people than fitting/changing rooms, as they were all (5 available for boys during tux season, 3 reserved for girls only, normally 3 boys only, 3 girls only, 2 family {made for those with children who need mom's/dad's help} but during tux season it becomes all but the normally reserved 3 are boys with Tux's.) occupied and all had a line to wait in, up to 3 deep! Out of all these, we needed to re-order one pair of pants (The tux company messed them up, hemming the right leg while leaving the left leg unhemmed.....IndifferentEmbarrassedBang Head) one hat (was too tight, unsure who missed that size.) and two jackets. (One we measured wrong, one the tux company sent the wrong size.) We also had to mend three shirt buttons. (Two were just flat out missing, one broke in half during try-on...) About 1/3 that I did inspection on were Camo vest/tie/lapels. Still have the rest for today, with Prom this evening.

YGW, The Accurail covered hopper has a build date of 8-80, repainted date 7-98, so much newer on my layouts era of 2002-2012, where the BB DD Boxcar is a 11-63 build date, so at end of 40 year life, and the BB Covered Hopper is a 10-69 build date, also getting close to end of 40 year life. The two older cars will be weathered more heavily to reflect this. (Layout was originally 2006-2008, but that got changed with a few cars not fitting the era quite right... And bumping to 2012 allowed a few rebuilds and newer equipment not around during original time-period. NS Run-through trains on a proto-freelanced line. So roughly 1/3 roster of locomotives is NS, 1/3 a partnered short-line, 1/3 Freelanced line. And then 2 Steam locomotives for railfan day. Big Smile)

Here are, FINALLY, some more photos from last weekends show in Jamestown NY, including two photos, one track-side, one street-side, of the HO scale model diorama of said Jamestown station. (My computer has been extremely uncooperative this week, not liking my ISP for some reason, or my ISP has just been extremely slow, one of the two....)

First, More Steam outside.....

Jamestown Steam

Next, Framed by the Station sign....

Now, Model in HO Scale of station, first, trackside-side.....

Now, Streetside-side...... AKA Front Entrance. Wink

Hope all is well with everyone, and all enjoy the day!

Good afternoon;

I just received a way too early birthday card from my sister.  She always encloses a few tidbits of "wisdom" as well.  Today's consisted of the Top Ten Rules for Writers:

  1. Verbs HAS to agree with their subjects.

  2. Prepositions are not words to end sentences with.

  3. And don't start a sentence with a conjunction.

  4. Avoid cliches like the plague.  (They're old hat.)

  5. Be more or less specific.

  6. Also too, never, ever use repetitive redundancies.

  7. No sentence fragments.

  8. Accuracie in spellin is a must.

  9. Don't use no double negatives.

 10. Proofread carefully to see if you

She also offered some health advice:  Mixed greens are good for you; especially the five's, ten's, and twenty's.

Good day all

It is day #2 of sun Idea in Virginia BUT there is a promise of two more days of Storm Umbrella. So doing all of the mowning in the evening and into the night ( thank God for headlights on mowers ) I have only one field left to Mow and should finish that in two hours tonight ! Mower wars. One riding mower fixed. Need more engine work on the other one. So weary of small engine troubles. I found out today that my Cub Cadet is not made any more by Cub Cadet but by MTD. SoapBox Bang Head which explains a LOT ! No wonder I have had to replce the fan four times, the engine once, deck cables twice, deck belt three times, wiring harness once .......At the end of the season I am going to get rid of this piece of junk and buy something better. Angry

Gary - LOL - I think we could all benefit from mixed greens Big Smile

Ricky W. - Loved your rail fan comment ! I laughed out loud when I read that.

V8 - You missed another possibility -" Overly busy " of course if one sleeps in that makes being ovely busy condition worse Zzz Laugh

Angel - What do you desire to be different about the communication with your brother ? Deeper ? More often ?

Ken - SIL if he will do it is always a good option. Do you know anyone who might have a recommendation for a handi man for your fence if the SIL declines the offer ?

Reinhard - Enjoy the PMs. That strange object in our sky is certainly a welcome change but I am " afeared " that it is soon going to disappear.

Garry - Adding more Angel Angel Angel nothing we can say or do can ease your pain. But we will sit and grieve with our friend and just be there with you as you go through this season of life.

Lion - Meow

JaBear, DER, Jeremy, Henry .. Howdy hope all is well on your main line : )

Have to git bact to w**k
