Bowser Loco Question
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, April 5, 2002 2:44 PM
How are the instructions that come with Bowser Locos? Are they step by step or are they the type that just shows an exploded view of the product on one page? Also- Can anyone recommend a bowser loco that would be good for a beginner? I would really like to build one.

Alex,The Bowser line of locomotives is not all that hard to build. It does take alot of work and patience to build. One can not ru***hough these kits. Now with that said,I would recommend the 2-8-0.As far as the instruction sheet, the last kit I built had the exploded view. This was in 1970.Now,I have not seen the instruction sheet that comes with them today.I will state that if these locomotives are properly built they are good runners and will last a life time with normal maintenance.

I would agree. I built the 2-8-0 Pennsy consolidation about 10 years ago, my first attempt to build a steam kit.
Follow the instructions and it will run fine, just do all those things they always say, like read all instructions first.
The biggest problem I had was the appearance of the stack. THe white metal casting seemed too thick, so I tried to drill it out. Being impatient, I ended up with a somewhat shredded stack, which I replaced with a Cal Scale casting that looked better to me.
I was wondering if anyone had any advice on repowering the Bowsers with can moters and flywheels. It runs well, but it could be improved.
