Bachman Acela train set?

I purchased this set when it was released on the market 3 years ago, and at
it's full price at the time. This is an EXCELLENT PRODUCT and highly
recommend it. My ACELA does what it is advertised to do, run fast, run smooth,
and TILT INTO THE CURVES AT FULL SPEED. The resisters in the motor will
not allow it to burn up at 90% throttle. I however run my Acela at 55% throttle most
times. The Acela is easily expanded with more cars and will pay for itself in a
long run IF you are modeling the present day.
THERE IS HOWEVER ONE " DRAWBACK " , the drawbars on the set are a bit
difficult to latch together at times, but once they are connected, it is a solid set.
I LOVE MY ACELA. AND YOU WILL TOO........

i paid nearly $200 for my superliner train (amd103 and 6 cars) so i guess i cant go wrong at $150 [8D]

All I can say is ... Boscov's. Online they're $159 for the moment. Might be cheaper than that in the stores.
Bought mine after christmas last year.... $119 with no tax (gotta love Delaware). Can't be that for such a GREAT train. Almost 1 year running with not a single problem. Bachmann even sent me a no nose to replace the one I broke. FOR FREE. Took about a week to get here.

My local Hobby Shop has one running all day and night without a single problem. I wish I could say the same for all my equipment. No de rails at all. Looks great too.

The Acela is one of Bachmann's better performing locomotives.

The only issue I've had with it is that the pilot is a little too low. I would suggest filing it down some otherwise it will scrape the rail head every now and then causing the train to jerk and I hate how that looks, lol.

Definately go for it!

The rail/pantograph switch is right at the base of the pantograph; a very small slide switch. The Acela runs very smoothly, especially with a DCC decoder installed, but is also temperamental about any deviatiions in track level. If you want a good train to test the quality of your trackwork, the Acela is it.

the Acela is one of Bachmann's best products. it's a great train and you'll love it if you get it.

As for where the pantograph switch is, there's a small raised square near the rear of the powered loco on top. pop it off and under it is the switch. BTW, the switch only changes where the power comes from (ie through the pantographs or through the rails), to raise the pantographs, just gently pop them up. so Unless you have powered Ariel lines, there's no need to change the switch.

I like my spectrum stuff but the repair department is by NO means excellent. I had a driveshaft break on my spectrum dash 8 (CSX of course[:D]) and i emailed bachman once a week for 2 months. they never responded and i ended up figuring out how to fix it myself. Still runs & looks great but im not impressed with customer service. Anyway maybe i can get an Acela for christmas. Just since i posted this topic i spent all my money on switch machines... 50 of them...[sigh]

Not always. Bachmann seems to be good at steamers and electrics, their diesels being so-so.

Looks neat, im thinking of buying one. Anybody have any experience or reason to tell me not to?
