It's NOT Prototype (but I still like the way it looks)

Bernd,

The WPF thread is typically kicked off by one of our New Zealand correspendents, JaBear, late Thursday night or early Friday morning (NZ is, I think, on the otherside of the world date line passing through the mid-Pacific.) Sometimes someone else may start it. In any case, folks are welcome to post and discuss throughout the week, although it typically trails off after Sunday evening US time.

I'm certain all of us regulars would welcome seeing your creative work in whatever scale or subject you're modeling in currently.

Hi Guy,

Hey that some nice work. I'm sort of doing the same thing with rolling stock and motive power.

Bernd

Bernd,

Thanks for the kind words.  I like the locos you posted to the thread, especially the boxcabs! Great sense of whimsy in the first set of electrics - love the double PA. BTW: I also count the crocodile among my favorite locos..

There is a lot of imaginative work in this thread.  Great examples of what could have been or just pure trains for the sake of trains!

Here's one that's been on my mind since I found a refrence to it on the net.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heilmann_locomotive

I'd like to modernize this one in a model someday.

A Heilmann locomotive would be a really neat project! Go for it!!

Dave

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!

That project is going to have to wait a while because it's number 105,391 on the list of model projects to do.

That's one problem I have with freelancing. To many ideas and not enough time.Crying

Steam Punk? Mmmmm close.Cool Bernd

Figured the Heilmann would open the door to this incresingly popular form of model railroading that is solidly freelance, with only a minor nod toward any prototype most of us imagine.

Here's a rather starnge diesel example:

http://tracks.lionel.com/temporary-transformation-a-steampunk-locomotive/

Several more discussions that show the affection steam punk afficianados hold for RRs and the simply weird miscellaneaous steamers of the past:

https://realsteampunk.wordpress.com/

The Strasburg RR even held a Steam Punk event last fall:

http://www.strasburgrailroad.com/train-schedule/events/steampunk-unlimited/

Not that you HAVE to have a suitable costume, but it certainly seems to help folks get into the spirit. I can imagine a Steam Punk FREEMO meet, for instance, but probably not Steam Punk RPM.Wink

But that sort of thing seems right in line with what some may find to their taste, however weird it might seem to some.

Then there's this fellow who you might say likes his freelancing in large scale -- and with plenty of meat:

http://geekologie.com/2013/04/id-slap-my-meat-on-that-steampunk-train.php

Then there's the fellow who asked about Steam Punk shinkansen and got some interesting replies, including abiut the Heilmann:

So if you're having trouble imagining something free-lance, that should be food for thought...Pizza

Well it sure has my interest in a more modern freelance model. My idea of a modern Heilman engine would be along the lines of the ACE3000 but with an electric drive such as modern diesels have.

Not Steam Punk. It's Diesel Punk. Wink

I like the custumes of the women a bit more. But you're right Steam Punk RPM wouldn't work, but if the world had gone more mechanical than electronics than it would have been a possibility. Now FREEMO that's all Steam Punk would be fasinating peice of work.

Ran across that post a while back also.

I surfed that sight for a while untill I discovered I was getting into another hobby. One is enough for now.

So if you're having trouble imagining something free-lance, that should be food for thought...

Uh, make mine BBQ.[laugh]

One BBQed slice of pizza made on my Steam Punk grill coming up.Dinner
