Whistling

Good Thansgiving Day Morning to all our American Friends and their families .

Also to all the troops wherever they are serving. It is our wish that you could all be home with your loved ones.

ULRICH, has shown the Rockwell painting that I had picked out for today and it is super.  So I decided that this is also appropriate as well in a different sort of way, and also in honor of Servicemen and Women and our Vets.  Enjoy and have a wonderful day.

Johnboy - sorry for being a little bit quicker than you are Smile, Wink & Grin

What a boring day! It´s wet & windy, but that´s no news. I am up to nothing, not even to run a train, just bored and lazy. The sun is setting and I feel like going to bed and just sleep. How nice it would be to have a large family (especially grandchildren) and be able to visit them! I still have fond memories on Thanksgiving 1973, when all the family (my guest parents´) was reunited for that weekend. A dangerous time for turkeys!

Have a happy holiday!

Good Morning and Happy Thanksgiving!!

Say, I think today is Ray's Birthday so birthday greetings going out to Ray and I hope he has a great day.

I have all of the sidewalks down on the N scale but I am short some road material to finish the area around the transfer building and station. I pulled out the Sikken Tire kit and see it will take me a long time to do as there are a lot of very small parts to paint and assemble. If I do a bit every day then I think I can get it done in a couple of weeks.

Don't eat too much but hey, why not , the day is only once a year. Go on, get stuffed.

Happy Thanksgiving to one and all!

I'm about to start cutting up a bunch of squash to take to our traditional Orphans' Thanksgiving feast.  It's a tradition that started 40 years ago, with all the friends at college who lived too far away to go home, mostly midwesterners and west coast people, but some international students as well.  The hosts cook up a big bird, and the rest of us contribute side dishes, appetizers and desserts, so there's not shortage of food.

We even have a pair of vegetarians, who bring their own "tofu turkey" patties and envelope of something they pretend is gravy.  I always feel like the mean old rich guy in a Dickens novel when I look at my plate and then at theirs, but, well, it's their choice.

It won't be long before the first generation among us will all be retired, but strangely enough, there are as yet no grandchildren and no marriages.  Only 4 kids total, all mid-20s.  Time will tell.  I think my daughter is the only one with a "significant other," but for now that cute little cat Tux is their "only child."

That's Weird! It is -2 in Dickinson ND. I always thought that twobellow was in Mississippi.

Oh well so much for LION humor so early in the morning. All of our cooks have the day off, and so we must fend for ourselves. Brunch consisted of Eggs Benedict with some frosted blueberry bread for dessert.

39 Turkies walking by the window, take one down and bring it in for dinner.

38 Turkes walking by the window, take one down and bring it in for dinner.

This little story could go on, we have about 100 turkies in the freezer already.

Oh well.... Happy Thanksgiving from the LION and the Council of Felids.

OK, Charlie, how'd you find that out?  I see nothing here at this forum about it...  You been hanging out over across the street at that other forum where they do post it???  Yep I am officially another year closer to the grave.  I'm sure I will have to put up with gifts, songs, and lots of cards this afternoon when I should be just enjoying Thanksgiving and good food and company! Whistling  A year from now I will have to be very careful as I will be 70 then and knowing my family......  We finally had to tell my sister what was up when she turned 70 three years ago as she does NOT like suprises.  My sons were going to do that big time and I finally talked them both into NOT causing a Family tif....  They let her decide who to invite to the "Surprise" Party at her favorite Mexican Restaurant.

Mr. B, What an adorable, cute little kitten your daughter has there.  I bet he is a bundle of fun...

Hope everyone is having a great day.  That goes out to those of you all over the world as well as us folks celebrating Thanksgiving!

Since my dad is my sister in Virginia. I had to make the Thanksgiving dinner. Which is hard to do with one hand. I followed Alton Brown's recipe on turkey Romancing the bird on Good Eats. Which was easy to do and really good moist juicy meat.

My sister got a dog three weeks ago going on 8 weeks old. It's a white/black pitbull going through his teething troubles. His name is Charlie.

Had a preety good Thanks Giving but I ate to much. After we ate all I wanted to do was sleep. Did get to spend a little time with the son-in-law but really did not get to talk about trains.

Good Afternoon, Folks!

Today´s weather has been rather pleasant for change - lots of sunshine! It didn´t get much above freezing, though, but that I don´t mind at all - actually, I like this cold but crisp weather!

I didn´t run my trains yesterday, but today I felt like taking my Furka-Oberalp boxcab for a ride. It didn´t run well until I discovered that quite a lot of gunk has accumulated on the rails. Incredible! I gave the rail heads a good cleaning and mounted a cleaner Noch rail cleaner pad under one of the freight cars. They work nicely and are inexpensive.

They just clip onto the axle. Available for HO standard gauge track, as well as N scale and TT scale.

Ken - I don´t want to rush you, but I do have a layout idea on my mind that I´d like to "put on paper". I´d need the size and dimensions of your layout space, though. Is it right you´d like to see some big steam running?

Supper time is coming up, so CUL, folks!

Uh....?  Ahem!  Afternoon folks.

Zoe, I could use another cup of dark roast coffee please...

I had an interesting morning today.  Last Wednesday Evening while I was online I got an email from STAPLES telling me that they were sending me a Gift Card to Target for $200 and gave me an url to activate it (give me the numbers needed to use it).  I scratched my head for a couple minutes and thought, why would STAPLES send me a Gift Card???  I did some checking out and found that my CC had been charged for $205 (they also included a couple small items to make the charge look more legit), and I didn't make the charge!  After unsuccessfully trying to contact VISA Fraud by phone, and Staples by phone (Fun being deaf...) I decided to drive over to STAPLES as it is only a couple blocks away and talk to a human...  They cancelled the Gift Card for me and made out a report notifying Target.  This morning I went down to my Credit Union and cancelled the Credit Card and did all the stuff they need to get a new card sent to me.  Then drove over to the Police Station and filled a CC Scam Compaint.

Walk in at the Police Station and the guy at the window looks up and grins and says Hi Mr. H!  One of students way back when...  Tell him what is up, he lets me in past the first door and after a couple minutes, out comes another officer who says he will need some information.  I tell him my name, and he says Over on ....  St.  I say yep.  He then looks at me and says were you a teacher?  Another one of my little Middle Schoolers from way back when.  We had a nice conversation in between getting all the info for the Police report.  I mentioned to him that My son's BIL also had his CC info stolen recently and the MO of both sounds a lot like a major national scam going around at the moment where the crooks put a reader in with the one that is supposed to be there at Gas Stations.   He looks at me, nods his head and grinned widely.  So he gave me a case # which I took back over to the CC office at the Credit Union and am now back home....  They have recently made 3 arrests in this scam in Rochester, and it looks like it is now in my area.  I am switching to using pictures of dead Presidents as much as possible.

Oh...  Thanks for the B-day wishes guys!  I had forgot I let the cat out of the bag back a couple weeks ago....

Ray - what a bad surprise! Can´t happen to me, I don´t have a CC. Whatever I buy, I pay cash or via bank transfer. No home banking, I do all the transfers inside the bank, not even an outside terminal. Come to think of it - there is a move to get rid of cash at all. I hope this will never happen. With a few mouse clicks, an ill-meaning person can just wipe you out!

I think banks, governments, and other outfits want to get rid of cash, Ulrich, either for our own good and their profit, or to control the masses while enriching the elites (depending on one's point of view).  I can't wait to be told they need to implant a biochip so I can access my bank account.

Happy birthday a day late, Ray.  Sorry to hear you're having this problem.  I've been nailed 3 times in the last 18 months or so, including once at a hospital.  I hadn't used that card in months, paid my copay with it, then got calls and email from the bank that evening.  Apparently, someone got my info and, as happened to you, went on a spending spree.

I'm sorry to hear about the LA Times' problems.  If they cut staff because shrinking readership couldn't sustain their payroll, I suspect angry readers and decreased quality will result in further cutbacks.

I'm exhausted from running around the last couple days.  At least I shot a couple westbound NS trains as they hurtled through Owego.  Later.

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Lemonad please.

Work Stunk! New guy starts Saturday at my store. And I get to train him! So let me get this straight, I am lossening my over time, have to share customers that come in so I make less commission? Bang Head Yea that sounds like a great plan! Thumbs Down

Ray I get the same E-Mails, I just don't open them. I only open ones that I know the person or it is a company I use like my electric company. By the way, how does the crook make any money? If you had a gift card in your name at staples for $200.00 and was charged only $205.00 (if I read it right) so the crook only made $5.00? I all so wonder how they got your E-Mail address and tied it your credit card?

Ulrich A picture is worth a 1000 words.

Each square is 1 foot. Gargar door is at the top, big square is my air compressior and cannot be moved. To the right is the rear door on to the patio. Right and up is where my desk sits, there is still a 3 foot section of wall there. Use to be a dressing room for the pool) Next on the right is the door into the house. On other side of the room / garage is a window with my AC is.

Here is a link that will give you a idea of how big my 68 Road Runner is.

 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plymouth_Road_Runner

I don't want a lot of turnouts, do want a 2% grade to about 4 to 6 inches. May use a Helix. Here is a link to the one I am thinking about.

 http://www.strikeforcehobbies.com/cgi-bin/sc/productsearch.cgi?storeid=*28bb80bbba7e784a943cec804ea6621d1248daeb9279&called_from_results=&orig_search_field=&index_items=&search_field=helix&Search.x=28&Search.y=11

I am all so thinking about keeping the layout on the Left side of the picture.

Well, Ken, if I hadn't opened the email from Staples (where I do have an account) I wouldn't have known about the transaction until I checked my account which I do every day or so anyway....  The email was not the scam.  The credit card number and info is stolen at the gas station pump where you pay at the pump and then the scammers use the credit card to buy gift certificates that they ultimately sell to people for less than the value of the card.  I think what happened is that when the credit card number was entered on the sale it automatically linked to my account.  The "goods" were sent to me.  That was the email I got.  They also bought another item for $3.88 or so plus tax and the total came to $205 plus change.  The other item that was in the scam was delivered to my house today.  I will be taking over to the local store tomorrow....  I think the scammer screwed up.  This has been well documented in the Rochester news.  Hundreds of people have been taken on this including some here where I live.  There were 3 arrests in Rochesr last week.  The police are very aware of it and were very grateful that I can narrow mine down to one of two service stations here in town as I have only purchased gas locally for over a year.  No trips where I had to refill the tank.

Have a great night!

well,

Been painting and moving. Paintes the ceiling fo the MBR gold. MOH wante it gold.

We will paint the tirm tomorrowand the LR accent wall peach. Accent walls sorta went out of style but MOH wants one, and I agreee the white everywhere is a bit much! I agree. Will paint a gray accent in the conputer/guest room. The kitchen already ahs green accent cabinegts.

rented a uhaul to help move but due to a death in hte family our main-helping frineds had a death in th family. SO that knocks them out. The uhaul is almost a waste but we bought the extra kitchen cabinets we wanted for the pantry in the kitchen as it is small without enough cupboards. We will take SOME of the trains if not all tomorrow to the basment. Have to get a spliter for the dehumidifier to run down there. we have two to run. actually 3. can all feed into the sump pump, whihc with the rian today will be running.

Our almost brand new lawn mower broke the pull cord again! crappy made piece of crap. Thats the third time it has jammed the pull cord and it wouldn't start. so it will go OUT too. and now late at night {I went to bed at 6pm only up for a few mins now} it is raining! The fromt yard is full of fallen leaves. GRRR.

we will tke the rollaway bed over tomorrow and I will be incommunicado for a period of time as I won't have the cable setup. yet. That will be moved the 3rd weelk of december. I will be back and forth each day though.

well, taht is about it, I should get  back to the precious bed where I can be off my vertical self and back and feet.

so cyaltr

Well, morning all.  Ive got my club's open house season starting today at 12.  I cannot wait to see how much my social media promotion I've been doing this year has paid off in visitors and potential members.  Plus I just love this time of year to be completely honest.... Not yet Christmas, but after Thanksgiving.  Well, I may get sick of the Christmas music by the middle of December, but for now, its not bad.

Have a great day everyone.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a bowl of Red Berry Crunch Organic Cereal and a pot of Marrakesh Express Dark Roast coffee to start the day.  Oh, bring over some packets of Stevia too and my R&GV RR Mug, please and thank you Ma'am!

Galaxy, if you are getting water in the basement from the rain you got overnight, I would sugest you paint the entire wall with a paint called Tite.  For most situations where the water is just ozzing in, it will seal the wall and stop the moisture.  If your basement wall is cracked, then you will need a contractor to repair it.  Also, don't throw out you almost new lawn mower!  Take it to a Mennonite/Amish small engine repair place and for much less than most other places will repair it for you and do it right.  There is a top shelf place near Penn Yan that has repaired some of my equipment for me (back when I used gas equipment) and they do it right.... the first time.  Something like that was under $10 including parts and tax.  Have fun with all the moving stuff!

Ken and others, here is a story about the CC Fraud going on around the country that may be what nailed me... http://www.whec.com/article/stories/s3938157.shtml

It is dark and gloomy outside today here in the Finger Lakes Region of NYS.  Currently n36°F outside with a high around 40° this afternoon.  Good day to spend putting rivets on a girder bridge I think.

Later!

Good Afternoon!

I am having problems with my Internet connection. I called the service hotline and I had to wait for an hour to get some jerk on the phone, telling me that my WiFi router is shot. Thta´s their standard answer. How come it´s working now?

GRRRRR!!!!

Ken - l remember that drawing. I had it saved on my old computer and lost it, when it died. The garage is 19 ft. wide. If you store your Barracuda in it, this leaves you with about 9 ft for the layout, which unfortunately is too narrow for what I had in mind. I have to come up with another idea then ... But why do you want to have a helix? They are difficult to build (or quite expensive, if you go for one of those kits) and eat up a lot of space. I think you´d be better of without a helix.

Petra has put up some Christmas decoration, as tomorrow is the 1st Sunday of Advent. I don´t have any Christmas feeling this year and I doubt I will get any.

Have a great one!

Morning diners,

I bought a 50'6" CSX boxcar. (1 of 2 that I need from Atlas) and a few days ago I bought a nude HO Scale Preiser figure posing. I'm thinking of a few places to put her in after she's repainted in bronze or slate. One of them was make a fountain and place her in the middle of a park or make her stand in the city (downtown area). I'll name her when she comes in.

(BTW: Credit card company cancelled all chargers for that month). Ot they call LION and ask "Did you spend $150 on software in Nottingham, England?" LION answeres, well yes, I always by my software in Nottingham England." Which reminds me, I must get some more software from them as the newest versions of PagePlus and PhotoPlus are now available.

It was the crook who bought the gift card, he has the $200.00

Absolutely right Lion, But, I think this was an especially dumb crook as the order was sent to me.....  I just returned the sterile wipes to the Local Staples store and recieved a cash refund of more than they cost (gave me a dollar coupon for my trouble...).  Also closed my old card and took out a new one on the recommendation of one of the managers who helped my last Wednesday.  I am very much hoping the crook got a copy of the emails that were sent to me and will try to use the gift card....  Heh, heh, heh...WhistlingSmile, Wink & Grin

Gooooood Morning!!!

Coffee and the Sunday Breakfast Buffet please. Thank you.

Siiiiigh…….(shakes head). Remember when the only “issues” we had was occasionally finding a dust cap from the airbrushes in the gravy that had been launched or where Barry hid that blasted Pie-A-Pault? I do.

Hope all had a good Thanksgiving, ours was. Only two things got broke and neither were mineYes. 7 grandkids in one spot you know. Actually they weren’t that bad. Even the dog didn’t run for cover this year. I didn’t even have to make my “The dog lives here, you don’t. If a choice has to be made, the dog stays, you don’t” speech this year. So, since I didn’t say that, neither did I get the stink eye from the wife and her little speech about my attitude……Confused, or something like that. I kinda stop listening after she releases my arm. Temps were in the low sixties so I fried the turkey with the garage door open this year.

J.P.- I hope all works out for you.

Ulrich-  Now I don’t want to be the spelling police, your switch panel looks great but…, you’ve misspelled nearly every word on there and so bad I have to admit I don’t understand what anything says.Wink

My sympathies to those who lost their feline friendsAngel. I’m a dog person myself, but I know kitties become just as much a part of the family, and the heart, as doggies.

Congrats on the new layout room G.

HAPPY (anniversary of your ) BIRTHDAY RAY!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry I’m late but hey, a feller like you deserves at least a couple celebrationsCake. Hope you have many many more my friend.

Mr B- Just went over to one of the two LHS in Springfield the other day to find it closed. This was the one that catered mainly to the RC group, but had an isle or two for model railroad. So far the other, Castle Trains if you’re peeking in Inch, is still there. It is MRR only shop. I hope they are still open when I get the chance to buy some stuff. I have a bit in reserve so not really in need of a trip.Yet.

My friend, through a series of things, had to send her not-so-smart phone back to the company to have it fixed under warranty. They said they’d send her a text when they shipped it back.Confused

Got that corner stud up so now ready for the drywall. Been raining so can’t get it home yet. I wanna get it before it sn*ws. This is the corner of Toddland (of which I'm King) if you remember, that contains my reloading bench and also stores most all my construction tools. It will have sufficient shelving to store all off the ground. The final size will determine the actual space for the finished layout.
Welp, I’m getting the itch to……yup. Change the layout plan. AgainBang Head. I need to put more thought in these things. But like a kidEmbarrassed, I just wanna get a choo choo train running and planning don’t get that done so I find something that looks good on the surface, and then find it isn’t the best for the long haul. Oh well. I do like my old west area, I guess I could raise some….have to think about it. I like a couple parts of it, but others…not so much. I’ll play with it while thinking. Probably should work on the parts I like and the not so sure maybe parts. Anything I do that I don’t keep will be like practice and as some would say, practice ain’t a bad thing.

Ya'll have a good day now, ya hear!!!!
