Not at all! I was actually digging at the endless parade of modern diesel's being produced and replicated, while some truly classic diesels are virtually ignored...
like the HH600 series.

Well, I understand what most of the posters on this thread are feeling. I have been waiting and waiting for the B23-7 in HO. I am finally getting my wish. I sat by and waited while other diesels were announced before it...Although I was happy to see the U30C's!! Those on this forum that want a steam locomotive...I can sympathize with you. I waited 5 years for this B23-7. MoPac had 85 of them, and I plan on 8.

Yes it would be way to cool realistic alco engine sound and some serious exhust smoke,need to knock a hole in the old train room wall,in my case just open the garage door wouldn't have to worry about the skeeters in the summer.

Diesels with sound and smoke? Wow, can you imagine doing that with an Alco? Would have to disconnect the smoke detectors in the house!! But it would be way way cool.

I don't know how many of you have bought one of Atlas's new gold series engine's,I got the trainmaster a few weeks ago the qsi sound system is awsome,performance is exellent,so if Atlas would go back and reintroduce some of their classic's like the rs1's,maybe a couple out of alco's century series locos c-420/c628-2 I believe they would be the finest transition era diesels on the market.Now that sound has made it's way into our engines Thanks to BLI and Qsi ,I believe we will see a diesel with sound and some type of exhust smoke before the end of next year.I also think Atlas will be the one to produce them.

Well Nightcrawler, I'm glad your wish was answered by Atlas! I am a SP Fan also, but that B23-7 is still too modern for me. I'm wishing for more CAB FORWARDS! There is never enough Cab Forwards!! As close too modern I'm waiting for is the SD45T-2 with the SP style Roman Lettering, which Athearn is about to release next year.

Please forgive me if I'm wrong, but It seems obvious by your responses that you are taking "Digs" at the steam guys on here. I'm a diesel guy myself however, taking digs at other modeler railroader's preferences only brings up hostile feelings. So, be cool, [8D] and please encourage our fellow "steam" modelers. Remember, some of these same guys might be the ones to answer questions that you may have in the future!

This is just my opinion, but with BLI on the market and its popularity (in spite of a few problems with some of their locomotives) Atlas may be cautious about producing new steam models. We have to remember that producing model steamers are considerably more expensive than model diesel locomotives.

The best thing for steam fans to do is to continue to write to the manufacturers and urging them for the specific steam locomotives they want introduced. Another option is to hit BLI up.

Yes, BLI units are more expensive but many shops allow "Layaway Plans". I've read where some modelers state that "they don't need sound'. Well, the sound on any BLI can be turned off, but I seriously doubt these modelers would!

If ATLAS ever decided to manufacture a steamer with the same attention to detail that they build their diesels and RTR's, I would think that they could definitely find a niche amongst LL, Athearn, Bachmann, and BLI.

Athearn offers a USRA 4-6-2, as does Bowser.
Bachmann has announced a USRA 2-10-2 and Bowser offers one.

I'm quite sure if Atlas did a little research and produced an Engine that others haven't, they be a serious contender. From what I've seen of their Diesels and latest rolling stock they are definately up there in the ranks.
