You don't say what scale you are in, but in N scale I recommend Micro-Trains trucks and couplers, especially the ones with the low profile wheels.

You have HO METAL wheel sets and you have trucks with wheel sets.
When upgraging to metal wheels sets, generally speaking(there are always exceptions) the Lifelife
sets appear to be one of the favorites and not as expensive in comparison to the intermountain full metal(axle also)sets that also have a good reputation

Beware, there are 28", 33", 36" & 38 ' wheels and
that come with ribbed back wheels or smooth back wheels, depending upon the time era.

Kato sells a truck/wheel set for approx $5.00 that has superior free rolling ability(maybe too much if you are doing a lot of yard switching).

Also Kadees, but the black finish eventually transfers on to the track and then you have to clean & clean the track for awhile.

I would like to know what eveyone use or like the best in rolling stock wheels or truck as the are call. Has anyone try the new one from athearn.
