Chris,
Any suggestions for a good spray paint substitution for Tuscan Red and Boxcar Red?
Thanks,
Andy
I'd depleted my stock of EL Gray, so I went looking for this chart to find a stand-in. Figured it could use a kick back up to the top of the thread list after 11 months. It's a handy list.
Added a few more colors for the Milwaukee Road, Erie Lackawanna, SSI-ITEL, UPS, and a few extras. Updated to Version 1.1
Happy Thurs everyone!

Cedarwoodron,
I'm glad to contribute something of value. I can't vouch for perfection on the majority of these colors but hopefully it will help. I too custom paint models so a list like this I felt shouldn't be kept on my desktop for only me.
Just to reassure you that I didn't just throw darts at color swatches, and "guess" these colors. I cross referenced online various photos, bottoms of bottles, color swatches, spoons painted by other modelers, recommendations of other modelers, and other conversion charts, to give you my best educated pick. If you guys have or made a color match that you feel is closer then any of the ones listed, please share!
You guys are some of the nicest people on any forum I met
Chris, Thanks, chart and info very helpful.
regards, Peter
Believe it or not, it was pretty fun to put this together, although my eyes started going cross after the 24th color. LOL
Thanks for that mention cedarwoodron. I'll take a look into them. I have in the past bottled spray paints by using a rag over the can and the bottle and squirting the entire contents of the can into the bottle. Makes good for airbrushing later. Of course follow all paint safety procedures when you do that. (respirator and latex gloves) it gets messy.
Thank You,,,,,,very thoughtful of you to do that....
Cheers,
Frank
Hey Everyone,
I decided to move this post to it's own thread so it will be easier to find then trying to unearth it from a series of pages in the other topic.
Can't claim these colors are "dead ringers" an exact match but they should get you pretty close. There are many more possible paint matches out there with different finishes available. It's just a matter of taking the time to discover more. I will try to keep this up to date the best I can. This is the first version and hopefully will help alleviate some stress of trying to find an upgrade path to the right colors.
Revell had a conversion chart put together by Testors. In there you will discover some Floquil colors matched to Model Master colors if you read from right to left. Very handy to have.

Hope this helps out a bit with future modeling projects. Let's keep it fun
