Well, had a good day today of finishing off some stuff for stuff's sake....and found that a local vets group had some wreathes stolen from them...they were preparing a memorial service for the Battle of the Atlantic...and, someone came and took them...sighBang Head...guess you need to post guards now just to keep wreathes in placeGrumpy

Vincent, something is out of balance, and if you aren't back to normal pretty quickly you should have it checked out.  Benedryl is not meant to be taken in the daytime.  They have a "daytime" version, but I'm guessing you got the nighttime stuff.  It is supposed to dry you up and put you to sleep, so never take it unless you have at least 8 hour to sleep, and preferably more like 10 or 12.

I had one of those itchy-and-woozy things once, too.  I'm pretty sure it was a food allergy.  I suspect, but could never prove, that it was a piece of spiced chicken from the local "healthy" grocery store.  It showed up again, mildly, the next time I had poultry, but it's never been back.  I spent most of the day doing the "Occupy" thing in one of the stalls in the men's room, then went home and slept.

But, if you even suspect you may be diabetic, that's a good enough reason for a visit to the doctor.  Don't take chances.

Benedryl is not meant to be taken in the daytime.

Benedryl has two labels one is an anti-histamine (which may cause drowsiness, the other use is as a sleep aide. It can be used in the day time, but will of course cause drowsiness, It is specific for an allergic reaction at any time.

Been a busy day for me today and now I'm relieved it's time to sign off. I guess we found out last night that I truly can install a DCC decoder in my sleep! I hope nothing happens tonight.

See y'all tomorrow.

Evening everyone,  just time enough for a quick one  Beer in a frosted mug please.

Not much going on.  Finished up a side job, doing some stone work.  One thing I can chime in on, Vincent, I have had the same thing on occasion.  Especially when I was still working full time.  I called it what Jeff referred to it as a "sugar crash".  I'd make it to my lunch box, and find an orange or a granola bar, or whatever I could find.  I don't seem to get them lately, since I've retired.  Maybe because I'm around food more ! Laugh  Plus, it seems the older I get the longer my list of daily "maintenance drugs" gets.  Maybe one of them has put a stop to it.

Nice weather anyway.  I decided not to go to our place up north for opening day of fishing in WI.  Neighbor up there said there was about 16" of slush on top of about 12" of hard ice on the chain of lakes I'm on,  so I took a pass, stayed home, did some chores, and listen to the  BREWERS get swept out of their own park by those pesky CARDINALS !  First time that's ever happened!  Hope it's the last!

Well, I guess I'm outa here!  Have a good night people!

Evenin' everyone!

Janie, just a cup of decaf for me, please...  Oh, and an Advil too please...

Vincent, scary stuff there!  If you start having another episode get yourself help ASAP!  Nothing to fool around with.  And do get to the doctor to get checked on either way.

I got most everything I had on the list for the day done today.  I am about half way through building the first of 3 raised beds for gardening.  Really not terribly hard.  Had to cut one 2 x 6 x 8 in half so the beds will be 4' wide, fasten the ends together, then staple Hardware cloth on what will be the bottom of the bed.  I managed to drag the part done over to the garden, after I rototilled up the old garden space, and got it set where I want it and leveled in place.  Tomorrow I will put together the second level for it and get the side braces screwed in place.  I will also get some 2 x 4s to make a ledge around the top.  Hmmm, I can get 2 x 4 x 8' in the PiP, but I will need to use 2 x 4 x 10s to do this I think.  Gonna have to think this out overnight.

Also spent some time doing research for a project at church.  I have to present some "solutions" to the poor sound issues the Sanctuary has and has had for ever basically.  Very hard to hear clearly in the space as all the surfaces are flat and reflective.  The Interim Pastor has a good idea on putting sound proofing on the back wall which I think is a great idea, but will be a hard sell to the property committee and financing....

I think it is time to head out to bed for the night and get some Zzz

Prayers for all in need!

Evening, Chloe, just a very brief stop (or I hope the bunch hasn't been exceptionally wordy today; I need to get to bed soon). Just a hot chocolate in a go cup, please. Thanks!

Jeff, that hognosed snake does remind me of photos of diamondbacks or other rattlers that I've seen (Wouldn't want to see them that close-up, though!). Surprise I wonder if the elves put that decoder in for you? Wink

Vincent, better your brother than you, who got to play weird games and dance with that snake... Whistling Hope you finally got some sleep last night. Did you go to your job on mostly NO Zzz's? If you were really short on sleep and took the Benadryl on an empty stomach, maybe your body didn't take to it as well as you might've otherwise. As a few Diners already said, you might want to get that checked out (just in case...).

Thanks for the comments on the shed & fence, Gary! I was looking at my other (bigger) junkyard tonight after w**k, and was noticing tiny holes, which seemed to be in the edges or walls of the shed  (a separate casting from the base on this particular one - which I have yet to start washes and painting). Then I realized, what it was, was I had applied a bit too heavy of a coat with the spray can, and those holes were from air bubbles that popped. Oops So I may need to get out the Squadron putty before I start on painting that one... Sigh

Todd, you can tell when Jeff's feeling better - he gets a wee bit more... mischievous, yep, that's the word. Like that rubber snake you're sitting down on now...Smile, Wink & Grin

Barry - you mean you have a lot of stuff to do in your day, too? Thought I was the only one who got sidetracked by... stuff! Whistling

Mr.Beasley, I loved your photo, and love that name - Mooseport. Sounds, just right!

Ray, at the rate your solar panels are going, in a few months, ConEd will want you on their board! Smile, Wink & Grin I am soooo jealous of those who have solar power (I know one guy locally here who not long ago got it installed on his home). It would be very nice to have in my apartment building, as the heat and power are all electric.

CDN Dennis, nice haul - and as you said, the price was definitely right! Big Smile

PA Tom, watch yourself out there railfanning. Flat railfans are NO fun...

Chris - like that phrase "lovely winter we've been having this spring..."Laugh And can we blame the government for the parts shortage (along with everything else we're short on...)? Smile, Wink & Grin And how has Rerun been enjoying this "spring"? I know some dogs don't like the white stuff on the ground, when it's high enough to tickle their tummy. Wink

Karl, glad the job is fitting well on you so far. Thumbs Up And hopefully, that decoder got fixed ("No, Rerun, we're not talking about a trip to your vet, really. Quit whimpering...)

Broadway - never knew you were an RN, in addition to all your other skills! Multi-talented cat, you are...Thumbs Up Say, how are the ice mountains in your parking lot? Have they started heading downstream yet?

Hey, Mike (mbinsewi) - I talked to our resident Cardinals fanatic at w**k today, and she said they won all four in the series with the Brewers! (Oh, you already knew that? Embarrassed Oops Whistling - But some of us like the Cardinals...) On passing up opening day for fishing with those delightful conditions, I can understand that..Yep.

Galaxy, got your PM, but will have to reply tomorrow. Time got away from me tonight. Thank you, though!

Today over lunch, I went by the post office and got one of my 'Bay winnings (Proto RDC-2 in B&M markings, which will be painted over for CAW colors - mostly "Platinum Mist"). Also successfully bid on another RDC-2 (this one in NP markings, also will be repainted and lettered for the CAW). I need one more RDC-1 and then I will have my 'fleet' for passenger traffic on the CAW.

Over my limit on staying up for the evening, so I'll be heading out now. Prayers for all those in need of comfort, good night's rest (until you get to the Dr. - and you know who you are....Wink), and healing.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape G.

 Flo, Beer Pleases.

Vince's said "It felt like I just lost all my energy all of a sudden, by body went numb, and my brain went on the fritz. I couldn't focus on what I was doing, I had difficulty thinking, everything I grabbed felt like it wasn't really there."

Sounds like how I feel all the time, welcome to Old Age! Laugh Oh, wait you are going to be 24 this month.

Insipid?! Who said Insipid???!!! (pssst…what’s insipid mean?)

LaughWell Bear, if you’re used to English Mustard then, yellow mustard is indeed insipid. Problem I had with English Mustard first time I had it was not really knowing what it was. It looked like a pale and not quiiiiite as liquid as our familiar stuff, but I figured it was English so maybe tasted just a bit different if I could even tell ( you know how them English just gotta be different than us yanks.) so I figured it was something on the lines of that poop-on stuff. I just put ‘er on there like it was mustard…Indifferent...whew! Like a horseradish exPLODED in my mouth!..... With a hint of mustardLaugh. I do like it and get it at the Chinese buffet to dip my eggroll in from time to time. Just not as much mustard per biteLaugh.

Mowed yesterday and rolled the lawn. Shoulda done it after I mowed, but hey...it got done. I'll do it again after the next rain until I gets pretty smooth. Yard needs over seeded in places too. Also w**ked on the old Cub Cadet, well, actually just charged the battery again. But as far as Brenda is concerned, I w**ked on itWhistling Laugh.  Got stopped about 5 to go to w**k as the guy that w**ks had to go car shopping. Talk about last minute. HIs car quit ya know and it's not worth putting any more money into. I’ll see tonight what he got. Today is my “full” w**k day, but I hope to get a chance to mow the yard again. I had to mow it so high, and last time the rain came again before I had a chance to mow it lower. Plus I have to get all the tall dead grass up and no better way that with the bagger on the push mower. But I need to get that IH started and out of the shed so the JD can get in and out of the garage so the DC can get in. We'll see. Right now I'm so confused I don't know what I's supposed to do.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

God morning, all.  Happy Tuesday to you.  Bright and sunny in New England today, 42 when I left the house but going up to 70 later.  We're supposed to get some rain tomorrow to wash away the pollen.  I didn't do any train stuff yesterday, but I'm planning for the carfloat base work that I hope to do this weekend.  The apron will be fixed to the layout, but the carfloat itself will be mounted on its own piece of 2-inch foam with tinted Envirotex (LOVE that dirty water) around it.  I built a fold-down shelf at the end of the apron for the carfloat, because it's a tight squeeze getting in there.  The carfloat came out about a quarter of an inch low, so I'll be adding a layer of thin plywood or maybe masonite beneath it to match the apron and keep the whole thing dead level to make the switching easier.

The original plan for the carfloat was to use it as a cassette, and I may yet end up doing that, but that may become a long-term plan instead.  To that list of things to consider when designing a carfloat terminal, you can add "easy operator access."  I was thrilled to figure out how to shoehorn the terminal into a back corner of my layout, but now that it's a reality I realize how awkward it is to get into, and how tough it's going to be to get this to work using the rather distant electromagnet as the only uncoupler available.  But, retirement looms, and with that the opportunity to re-confugre Mooseport to be on an accessible aisle, in a new trainroom, in a state with lower taxes.

Speaking of taxes, our "friends" in Washington are cooking up a cauldron of sales taxes for Internet purchases, allowing states to collect sales taxes on thing bought online.  I get almost everything from my LHS, which means I pay sales tax but no shipping, so it doesn't affect me much, but those of you who buy their trains online are going to see an extra charge if this goes through.  On the other hand, it will make the LHS a bit more competitive in high-tax states, so it's a mixed blessing for some.

Good morning. It's 64° with 78% humidity. It'll be cloudy with a high of 85°.

I'm going to drive myself insane yet. This morning I'm thinking about installing coupler cut levers on my newest rebuilt GP40. Why? What's so special about it? It was just a piece of junk that somebody sold off AS junk. Why should it be worthy of special attention? Why not the old Spectrum Bachmann GP40? I wasn't even even considering it. My eyes went right to the newest one. Maybe I should give this more thought. Or maybe I should try finding some cheap source of cut levers. I don't know. I'm gonna drive myself buggy yet.

I resisted bifocals for a long time.  One of those "I'm not that old yet" things, I guess.  I got used to them very quickly.  SWMBO and my daughter got on me to get more "fasionable" frames, which I did one time.  I hated them - too small, so I went back to the same style I like.  Glasses are one thing you should let good sense rule on.

That is getting to be such a PITA.  We now have one "official" government-issued garbage can, and two recycling bins.  Anything more than the can will hold has to go in a special extra-cost bag, and good luck getting rid of stuff like old plywood.  At least they come by and take old TVs and washing machines, and don't charge for that, yet.  We're probably going to need a dumpster to get rid of all the unwanted junk in the house when we downsize.

LION got a dumpster when we moved out of Brooklyn. Had to post a guard over it so that the neighborhood would not fill it up before we got rid of all of our stuff.

On the other hand, when the LION worked for the Franciscans in Manhattan, we got a dumpster, and were able to fill it up three times before they came and took it away. People would dive in and recover things that they could sell, such as copper tubing from air conditioners, stainless steel and the like. They worried about people getting hurt in there or making a mess on the street.

So, Lion, New Yorkers take stuff out of dumpsters in Manhattan and then drive across the bridge into Brooklyn and put it in dumpsters there?  What a curious ritual.

Actually, I know all about it, because it's my bridge that they cross.  It's for sale if anyone is interested.

Mornin' everyone!

Oooo!  I'll have the blue plate special this morning, over easy on the eggs and I'll have the sausage too.  Oh, can I get a couple slices of sour dough toast along with that?  Don't forget the dark roast coffee in my FGLK mug please.

Another sunny day here in the Finger Lakes Region of NYS.  The trees in my front yard are starting to blossom and the beautiful little dandelions in the yard give it a nice yellow polka dotted look....Whistling Currently 72°F outside with a gentle breeze.

I want to get the first of the raised beds done this morning as I just got off the phone with the old teacher friend who wants me to get the wood sitting near the road on their property today...  I will go over later this afternoon, saw what I can, and get back home in time to get to the properties committee meeting at church do answer their questions.  Most of them won't like my answers most likely as I obviously don't know anything about acoustics and sound even though I did Pro Sound and Recording for 20 years...Whistling  Maybe this time they will listen to me as I think they are running out of cheaper "solutions" that don't work.  LOL

Best get moving as it will be a busy day here (again)!

 Morning

 Flo, Diet Dew Pleases

Well, so far it is not raining so I get to cut the front grass, it needs it badly! Going to have to trim a few bushes that are all so getting out of hand.

After that, I hope to strip down the New (well was new a few weeks ago) Rio Grand SD 9 and get the worm gear bearings well lubed with ATF.

 See you after while.

 Ken

Good Morning to you, Zoe - I'll have that special, please. Make my eggs scrambled and with bacon, wheat toast (and some blackberry jam, too), and a Santa Fe mug of coffee. Thank you!

OzJim - hope you have a great vacation in Thailand. YeahThumbs Up

JaBear, I've heard some of the varieties (not all, mind you) of fruit cake up thisaway referred to as "excellent for constructing a retaining wall..." Surprise Yours does sound a mite bit better! I figured that Jeff would vouch for his liking (blazing) HOT!! mustard (or anything hot and spicy tasting)!

Todd, it sounds like you need another tractor or mower at your place...(That, or a bigger shed!)Whistling

Speaking of dumpsters and junk, I noticed last week that an apartment building had a (worn-out) couch/sofa sitting by the dumpster down the street (It had been raining hard the night before, when it was out there...). But when I came back from doing laundry, the couch was IN the dumpster (and I doubt that the dumpster truck will take it...). We don't have a bridge close to us, so if the stuff at the curb is (in someone else's opinion) worthwhile, it may disappear fairly quickly. Otherwise, we have a (once?) yearly day when the city will haul away old fridges, stoves, etc. from the curbside. Ah, America, land of excess...stuff!

Rob, you're making progress; should be starting new benchw**k before long, eh? Thumbs Up

Guess the small businesses have better lobbyists in the House than in the Senate? Even if that gets passed, it'll still be harder for small LHS's (than for some of the huge model train places which also have a well-know internet presence). Not wanting that soapbox to come creeping out, but regulation, taxes, and such nowadays are not too favorable for smaller businesses. (Rant done...)

Ray, I bet your committee members will especially listen to you if your plan involves you doing the modifications and setup for free...(TINSTAAFL...)Whistling

Ken - now that's a photo I haven't seen before: a Geep with an F-unit! (Though there may be RR's who regularly do that, I've not seen photos of that, and definitely not in MR)

We are having some nice, sunny weather today in Cape-land (high of 72 F predicted). Of course, I wore my long-sleeve shirt to w**k this morning, not having seen any weather report at that time...

I'll be at the window booth, checking out the morning switcher working the industrial spurs.

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape G.
